Yes i know them fr 45 years saw ivan and used to be the carer fr the beautiful Sharaha when shecwas a baby she used to sing herself to sleep and was a great joy to care fr her 🎉

Wow! Im 52 as well and I love this too! We were 15 years old then and much better times. The Men without hats album with this longer, better version was my wish for my 15th birthday. My mom came through. Still have it around here somewhere ☺
he writer/lead singer, Ivan Doroschuk, has explained that "The Safety Dance" is a protest against bouncers prohibiting dancers from pogoing to 1980s new wave music in clubs when disco was dying and new wave was up and coming. ... Thus, the song is a protest and a call for freedom of expression. Original meaning of the song.
This song came out when I was in middle school. I was 12. My 23 year old daughter has it for her ring tone 5 years ago. Proud dad. The original video is better.
Just the chance to see all that amazing talent on display from those dancers of the 30s, 40s, and 50s. Some of them are still legendary, and will be remembered into the next century.
I love what you're doing with your daughter, how you are spending time with her and, how you are teaching her of great music from our time. Love and light.💞
There was a lot of An American in Paris and Singing in the train in that video. Really Incredible dancing in those movies. Mind-blowing. Especially Donald O’Connor’s solo tap dance.
Great video! Brought so many wonderful memories back to me! I'm a new subscriber and you two rock! I used to make my daughter listen to my favorite old classics and now she sends me videos of songs that I made her listen to! lol
I live in Montreal, Canada, where the band was based. People still have a real affection for this one...and I was a kid of the 80s, so I know this one very well (this version works well with the images).
A 2nd cousin of mine wrote this song as a teenager with his friends in a garage band. They gave it to local DJ to listen to not realizing it should have been copy written and the DJ stole it and sold it to Men Without Hats and my cousin never got a dime.
This reminded me of another compilation i watched: WALK THE MOON - Shut Up and Dance (Movie dance compilation),with movies back in the 60-70s up to recent movies even. And The lady who edited and clipped it all together, had her comment section bursting with praising words, that she made one of the best compilations they had ever seen, and it came from people knowing what it felt like to sit for hours and hours, searching for the perfect beats that would fit the most with the dances. Another classic song too "Shut Up And Dance(With Me)". Theese do put a smile on your face. Needed in times like theese,we all looked forward to a new decade.......then 2020 happened. Cheers! (Annie stopped with her cheerleading? Aaaww....well then she must be a dancer at heart lol)
I was 13 years old when my dad took me for the first time to a club (in 1984 people called it a discotheque) My virgin young ears didn't know what hit them, so loud and clear, the lights, the atmosphere... When we entered the club, this song was just played by the dj, the other record was from Fad Gadget - Coitus Interruptus and Ladyshave. It was quite an experience and my love for synthesizers and electronic music was born!
I love this so much! Glad to hear Annie is going back to dance..I use to be a dance and gymnastics teacher, til my joints and bones started screaming at me..lol..then I had to retire. :( Now I'm going to check out the Pulse channel and Sub..thanks for sharing!
That was so awesome. Ahhh the 80s, my teen years. Such a great time to be alive. I'd like to see y'all react to Girls Just Wanna Have Fun from Cyndi Lauper (bet Annie would love) and also Modern English "I'll stop the world ( melt with you)"
That's the first time I have seen the young lady really show some serious reaction! Who would have thought it would be a one hit wonder that would trigger her musical funny bone!
YES!!! I love this song. I never knew the meaning and now I love it even more. and it even got a reaction out of annie. today is a good day. off to check out the pulse channel.
Got to see her with Missing Persons back in 1998 at a small club with a handful of people there but one of the best experiences! Dale Bozzio stayed behind afterward and signed posters and other merch.
when you mentioned that drummer that's been playing drums since he was 6 that you want to do on your channel reminded me that I would love to see you and Annie react to Tina S. She's an incredible guitar player that has been playing guitar since she was 6. Any of her videos would be great...but I think the best is her playing Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata... if you want to be truly blown away by some real talent. I think she's 17 in the video where she does play Moonlight Sonata, but there are many videos of her at even younger ages and she is amazing in all of them!
Haven't even watched it.....liked it. Based solely on the song being introduced to the young lady......there's lots of great music from the 80s...... "Same as it ever was"...... Great video guys.
When I'm older. I'm going to wear a tweed jacket with patches on the elbows, get some black rimmed glasses...and spontaneously yell "Science!" when I'm out in public.
the talent those dancers have is mind blowing too. we should celebrate the arts more often. 9:41 ive seen that before. hurts me every time they land #guyproblems
This was really cool to see a young person's reaction to a song from my generation, dancing from earlier generations, and see that the older genre of dancing integrated into the more modern (ahem, 80's) context! Really cool! Now I have to go binge-watch Pulse's youtube channel... :p
Love this song and the video remake. On a side note the original video to this was filmed in a village/farm about 10 minutes from where i live and my nan knows the owner of the farm, there was meant to be a remake of the original music video a few years ago but never happened dew to funding, i was asked by the person who owns the farm if i wanted to be one of the extras in the video but turned in down
There are some amazing underated ghost songs, but the one song by them that really needs a reaction is Miasma. That's a song that'll surprise you just when you thought it couldn't get any better
Annie needs to check out the band Cherri Bomb. They were her age when they recorded their first album and EP. They did an awesome cover of The Pretender.
That’s a weird extended version of the song as you don’t even see Ivan, the lead singer. There’s an official video of this song I remember watching in early 80s. It’s kind of medieval in theme. You can see it on UA-cam. There’s a cool live version of ‘where do the boys go’ by Men Without Hats you should check out :)
While I like the 4:41 Club Remix (they call it a 12" extended edit), and i like this video to it as well. I will always have a soft spot for the original 2:54 radio version. Fun Fact; For a long time, between this song,, and their other big hit *"Pop Goes The World",* many people thought that this new wave/synth band was British, and were shocked to find out that they are actually *Canadian* (From *Montreal, Quebec* to be exact)
The point to the Safety Dance was you can dance(pogo, as it was called then/mosh) if you want to, but IF you are going to Mosh or pogo to be 'safe' about it, 'look at your hands' meaning watch where you are shoving and moshing.
I just wanted you to know that this video got pulled from the "Pulse Channel" I believe your copy is the only one left! Find a way TO PROTECT IT FOR PULSE!!!
I did recognize that it was an extended mix. I even remember back in the early 80's hearing the original version and then out of the blue this version started playing all the time.

One song that is a guilty pleasure for me, “You’re So Vain,” by Carly Simon. I really get a kick out of your daughter’s face. I don’t know if she likes the music or is embarrassed that her dad likes the music. lol I have niece & nephew, 8 & 9-years-old, and I know how wide-eyed they get looking at me when I play my music.
This was and still is a MEGA HIT , The 80ties where magic in big hits. For sure the safety dance is a top 10 hit os the 80 ties
You just made my day. My brother is the current drummer for Men without Hats. Ivan is a great guy.
Ivan is a stand up guy, only met him once but he was eager to answer questions and chill.
Saw them in concert. A very good time was had.
Yes i know them fr 45 years saw ivan and used to be the carer fr the beautiful Sharaha when shecwas a baby she used to sing herself to sleep and was a great joy to care fr her 🎉
Being a metal head as a teenager and still loving this song was probably the most non-conformist thing I've ever done.
Strange huh, gate keeping in a genre where the whole point was to be different.
Ivan D, who wrote the song, really liked hard guitar rock as well ... so maybe not that strange at the core.

35 here. Great songs live forever. I think its because they tell the truth, whatever that is or what it means.

Original meaning of the song.
Yes...The song originally said "Its safe to dance", but everyone heard and asked for safety dance so thats what it became.
This song came out when I was in middle school. I was 12. My 23 year old daughter has it for her ring tone 5 years ago. Proud dad.
The original video is better.
The song is written as a protest for getting booted from a club, because the bouncers disliked the writer pogo'ing to B52, disrupting other dancers.
You guys have to watch the "literal video" version of this song, funny as hell! Great video btw!
Yes! The official video is weird enough, but the literal video is on another level of hilarity.
the actual bideos is better

It's little shame this type of movies almost disappear. Sometimes I miss feel good movies with dancing and music

@9:42 You both looked away at EXACTLY the best part of the video!!🤣🤣🤣
The 80s took dancing very seriously. Did we really not have any problems then? My biggest problem was I couldn't dance.
Actually yeah, we didn't have too many problems in the 80's now that I think about it.
If you think the 80's took dancing seriously, you should've seen the Disco 70's - I couldn't dance either
Shoot, a couple of those clips were the 20's ;-)
Actually we had plenty of problems in the 80's, I think the majority of us were just too busy enjoying the ride to worry about it.
Not much you can do when mutually assured destruction kicks off.
That was Brilliant! Love what you do all the way from the UK.

another great video showing a great song from Canada!
Thanks so much!

I was there when they made the original video in the village, the Shetland pony in the video was called patch! She lived to be 52!
Annie is perfecting her McKayla Maroney smirk (9:31)! Awesome!
Very cool video!! I enjoyed it alot!!!
Good luck on your 100,000! Make it so...
