never understood the hate for nickelback they have such great songs
I totally get it. A lot of people seem to see art as something they need to take deep ideas and meanings from. I see Nickelback (and KISS - that's Gene Simmons in the video) in a similar light as blockbuster films like Independence Day: just brain-dead fun.
Of course, then there's the other side where they could never seem to settle for just *how* braindead. Sometimes I wonder if they released albums where they stayed consistent in their tone and style (ie: more catchy, quiet songs like Someday and Photograph on one album and then their harder, more controversial songs like Something In Your Mouth or Animals on another) might have helped keep them from the hate.
The hatred I believe developed because all of their songs sound pretty much a like and they were played to death.
I think they're hated far less than they're made out to be, and most people just act like they hate them to make the jokes

@@cinuzuka I also stated all their songs sound pretty much the same. Combine that with overplayed, and you get a strong dislike for the group. However, I think they are not as hated as much now because they are not played so much.

they were hugely overplayed and that was one of the reasons down the dark path. "How You Remind Me" is a great song, but when it was popular you heard it everywhere all day long.
True, but same thing with Linkin Park - In The End but I've never heard anyone complain about that, so it couldn't be that they were overplayed.
Every song that gets popular gets overplayed. Not just Nickelback.

Little factoid. The crowd shot at the end of the video was recorded at the Hershey, PA show and I was at the show and they told us they were recording it for their video.

Tbh nickelback was my favorite band until I got into metal. They pretty much have cope with my emotions when I was growing up through elementary school. It was rough and nickelback helped soothe me, especially the song called "If Everyone Cared"

i still like nickelback, said publicly. i heard their first single, "how you remind me", and i said it was going to be a big hit. it was. saw its video and fell in love with the woman it featured. also, that was M&M's daughter, Haylie, singing in the soundboard clip. its so hard to feel the years gone by. i think a little different but the same things are relative to me, damn good bonfire parties back then. friends were loyal and it was all about honor. bar fights i dont miss though. especially the story of the guy breaking his wrist on my jaw lol.
I never got all the hate they get. Yes, Chad is full of himself and their lyrics are often terrible but you can’t deny the catchiness of the music.
Not all their lyrics are terrible. The All The Right Reasons album was pretty good songwriting, especially "If Everyone Cared" and Fighting for All the Wrong Reasons"

I heard rumors of the hatred coming from touring with them....n they kind of stick out in an odd way . They aren't punk, rap- rock, metal....in a time of that music. I didn't like them when they 1st hit scene...took me 6-7yrs to start giving them a chance. I listen to AFI, Thrice, Rancid over nickleback 9 out of 10 times, but I like em.

My fav band by far. I honestly dont get the hatred towards them. Love there old stuff and the new. They are brilliant live. Probably one of the best live bands going around.

I don't know about the day to day stuff that people hate Nickelback, but I think the best explanation for why they get so much hate, even back in 2005, is that Nickelback is like the athlete who knows the basics of his sport but refuses to push himself. They are technically good, they have the basics of rock and roll, but they don't push the envelope beyond the pure basics. That doesn't stop me from playing their early albums.
The local radio station still plays this but they cut the sound at a couple of places 😂
A good one for Annie would be American Girl by Bonnie McKee...little more current on the *stars* in that video. I saw another post about Delain-We are the others..another great video with cameos and a message that needs to be heard.
I get a chuckle from the part towards the end with Ted Nugent doing the line "Everybody's got a drug dealer on speed dial".
If you don't understand why that is funny, you don't know Ted. He's a big anti-drug spokesman, and has been since the 70's.

Even with Nickelback being hated, which I think is mostly unjustified, they still sell out their venues, and only 3 of their albums have not gone platinum. They aren't the best, but I do like them, they get a lot of undeserved hate because of memes.

From what I've seen they are the 11th highest in album sales since the 70, then the I hate Nickelback movement started. Their music is great no matter what anybody says.

I've never understood the hate, never been on the bandwagon never will be, Nickelback have many bops and a lot of songs with deep lyrics
The hate for Nickleback can be drawn back to a video some guy made a good few years ago to "prove" to his girlfriend that "all" Nickelback songs sound the exact same. So he used software to play two of their songs side by side and sure enough they were quite similar. It went viral and then loads of people jumped onto the bandwagon as they do and the hate just spread.
It later came out that the original guy actually altered the songs tempo and other parts to intentionally make them sound more similar. On top of that there were a lot of other response videos of people taking two songs from bands (that each had dozens of songs just like Nickelback) and played them side by side to prove that most bands will have at least two songs that are quite similar because that's inevitable when a band has a specific style.
Unfortunately, as these things usually go, the proof that the dude completely lied and edited the songs, on top of the fact that it was only 2 of their songs in the first place didn't slow down the bandwagon and it's been going for years now to hate on Nickelback, most people don't even know why they hate on them anymore. Ask anyone that claims they hate Nickelback to explain why and I guarantee you that 9/10 of them won't be able to give you a concise answer as to why, chances are around half of them won't even be able to name more than a couple of their songs (and those will only be the popular well known ones that everyone can name). The main reason is ultimately that once the bandwagon gets a' rollin' there ain't nothin' that'll stop it because people are morons! =D
Sure enough Nickelbacks songs are fairly basic and in general a bit flat and lacking in substance, they're a mediocre band with a couple nice songs. But that's not enough to garner the amount of hate they get, that's the fault of one single dude that wanted to piss on a band his girlfriend once liked and he lied to do so :)
Nickelback's songs are all one dimensional, have no unique riffs and the lyrics are tedious. Musically, they are an irrelevancy in the world of Rock n Roll, but they sell records and have fans because they play Pop music. That's fine if you want to be part of the corporate music machine, where talent doesn't matter. But when your front man thinks that his band is King Shit, that's when the hatred is justified.
