F stop tells you the size of the aperture (entrance pupil to be precise), T stop tells you how much light it lets through. F stop tells you about depth of field, T stop tells you about exposure. Of course they tend to be closely related since bigger holes admit more light, but they're both precise measures that just measure different things.
Thank you, I was about to write this down myself. It comes down to the number of elements and what type of glass is used, as well as the coatings on those elements. Basically any lens will have a T-stop slightly lower than its F-stop. Off-hand, the Sigma 30mm 1.4 DC DN has a T-stop of 1.8 It's not exclusive to the number of elements, though: The Sony 16-55mm 2.8 lets in more light than the Sigma 1.4 DC DN trio does at the same focal lengths and F-stops, hence the T-stop on it is lower for the same given F-stop.
F-stop is about geometry, T-stop is about the actual amount of light on sensor. Like my Nikkor 50mm f/1.2 is really more like a T1.6 or T1.8 because it vignettes so heavily wide open.
This is cool. I think its worth it considering you can use it for super long time, as its compatible with so many cameras. And again perfect for indie films to actually save up for that without the need of renting
Love the Linhof 617 at 8:48 Cool reference. I wonder what an anamorphic would be like for stills? One of these would be cheaper and easier than a Linhof plus all those chemicals and scanning.
Would be nice if Lok can test the L mount version with his S1H open gate recording; in theory it should be the perfect beast to match the S1H anamorphic open gate abilities, the other being Aivascope
Happy to see somebody putting it on Nikon.. But I wished to see some 3:2 desqeezed footages from Panasonic, or even stills from Nikon could do that job.
Whatcha need there Kai is a monopod. But looking awkward and ridiculous on a crowded city street is kinda your thing. Maybe Lok has one you could borrow?
I don't have a ton of experience with anamorphic, but I haven't been that impressed by Sirui's lenses. 1.6x is definitely quite a bit better than 1.33x, but the footage just doesn't have that "magic" feel generally associated with the anamorphic look. I've tested out the Vazen 65mm T2.9, and it does a much better job than any of the Sirui lenses I've test (50mm and 75mm or whatever the longest focal length lens they sell). Yes it is 3x the price of Sirui, but still quite affordable compared to most anamorphic lenses.
If I thinking well the anamorphic lens made view is closely similar to cylinder projection traditional film camera (like the soviet Horizon cameras), because anamorphic lens collecting the reflected light from theme to a compressed area horizontally to the sensor, which means closer appearing angle of light rays on sensor to ideal 90 degrees at corners. So no distortion, picture are the same with the not too big panorama mosaic picture (for example 2 frame distance moving only with a smartphone) in this case not a still picture but a continous video.
I'd like an anamorphic lens for video for my Fuji X-T3 but I must admit I find the whole thing a bit daunting. I'm a 99.5% stills shooter so video is not really my thing but I do love the anamorphic lens look, the sideways blue lens flare and wide aspect ratio. I'm guessing I'd need to buy an external monitor as I don't believe the X-T3 can display the correct image on the backscreen. Plus editing would be more difficult? Special software required?
Hey There, same here, I am doing stills only and am addict to anamorphic, so I started exploring the various options and decided to go for Fuji XT4, simply because of Sirui-lenses (since the other options ar eway to expensive or not feasible for stills). So I am shooting in Fuji's RAF format, then imprting to LightRoom, selecting the files I will use and the de-squeeze the respective choices with Photoshop. I know, this quite awkward but I haven't found a non-destructive way to de-squeeze RAF's in batches (rather than doing them one-by-one...I hate PS, so the only thing I use it for is to desqueeze, all adjustment (clours etc.) is done in LR). I am using the Sirui 50 and the SIrui 24, most of the time with a Tiffen Pro Mist filter attached to enhance the cinematic look. General problem being for that the close-up distances are not very good so I am currently starting to explore extension tubes for macro work - and desperatly waiting for the Sirui FF for L-mount to be delivered. There is a UA-cam channel by MediaDivison, who have two of the best documentations on anamorphic look and the tech behind out there and I can only wrmaly recommend to watch them (at least I have learnt so much from then and the MediaDivsion guys are great). If you want to see some still examples ping me and we will work out a way to get in touch so I can provide you a link...but be careful: you either hate it or get addict like me :-) Best, Michael
Post Scripum: Focusing these lenses manually can be a pain in the a** and really they are not sharp like hell corner to corner, the cumbersome handling sucks, but if you get along with it and you are into this look. the results are rewarding :-)
What monitor are you using here? I do a whole lot of my photography work through Live View so I'm thinking about buying one to save my eyes from squinting at a little 2.5" camera screen. Thanks!
I just wish there was the "free" anamorphic option--different aspect ratios in camera. Sure, cropping in camera to 2.8:1 would lose a lot of pixels, but it'd make "cinematic" framing easy for anyone at the push of a button with just a firmware update.
@@samsonkipp can tape get you there if you don't want to use an EVF? Eh, kinda. But if there were simply a "custom aspect ratio" option next to the 3:2 and 16:9, easy peasy, plus you have all the information like shutter speed and ISO displayed on the screen. Just irks me that something which should be so trivial in every camera only exists in a handful.
🤣🤣 Gotta love those cinematic hemorrhoid cream commercials! 😆 I’m just diving into the world of anamorphic and this lens is at the top of my wishlist. Thanks for sharing!

And P stops? You need to keep well hydrated when carrying 82mm-filter lenses all day.
F for focal lenght T for (light) transmition
@@Martincyborg Right, because F stop is literally the entrance pupil size as a fraction of the focal length.
I guess Peak design is gonna be thrilled that you call it Gitzo stabilisation. 😄

What kind of monitor were you using? Can you recommend a reasonably priced monitor that desqueezes like the one you are using?
man 5:20 ur scaring me with the way u hold the camera like that
Please, is there any news of a Canon EF Mount for this one???

It's a beautiful looking lens. If you want absolutely gorgeous footage, these are great lenses either way. I love mine over many lenses!
New kai video let's goooo

8:37 Favorite shot out of all the them in this video.. not sure why it's my favorite but it looks interesting.
Agree! Best shot of the video 🔥🔥
Not on Sirui's available products page yet.

is the lens a z mount? does it needs an adaptor when use in Nikon Z camera?
Nice to see results from the Nikon Z with this lens.
Nice to see people making native Z mount lenses
I have a question I have a red one mx camera is it compatible with this one with the nikon mount
Can this lens be used with a DSLR camera like the Nikon D780, and with which adapter?
3:32 Richard Hammond?
Great video! I really enjoyed the color grade on the examples. Could you share the workflow please? Thank you!
There were barely any examples. The longest one is in the outro, but that one is covered with suggested videos.
Dope video 😎 Love seeing you two together again…more silly Kai 🥸🤩🥳 That song at the end though 😏💃🏼
awesome video! Loved the breathing test :) :)
How is your Shinobi logo red like the Ninja V. thought its suppose to be green?
Perfect imperfections 😌☝
bmpcc 6k + ef|rf mount + Sirui 50mm T2.9 ???
Wow looks sick and gives us filmmakers a fighting chance #supportindiefilm
This guy is funny! Love your videos man
Can I use this lens with Nikon z6 ii without ninja Atmos ?
sad no EF mount only RF... am I that far behind I love my 5div :( hahaha
@mipmipmipmipmip is there such a thing?? Just joking! Haha 🤣✌️

just put two tape stripes on your screen for framing and export it in 2.35:1 after cutting 💀

Yo the Sirui 50mm T2.9 1.6x Full-Frame Anamorphic Lens is amazing !!!!
Wich tripod is used here?
Thanks in advance
Kei if you have to buy and starter camera, which one you will buy?
Gawdamn that is a warm lens. Kelvin's so low it could freeze helium solid.
It's sad that Sirui doesn't have EF anamorphic lens for BMPCC6k Or 6K pro. They only have EF-M.

Will the old Lomo anamorphic lenses plummet in value?
Are they going to make any with a canon mount?
Sony has to implement 3:2 sensor readout to make this lens useful on the FX6. The 2.8 format is ridiculous
Hi.Kai. Can I ask which VND u were using? Or which one u recommend for video?

this bokeh hunt is too damn funny
