    Thank you for these videos. Surprisingly, detailed explanations like this are hard to find. So this was great.

    Thanks for the video. I've just watch both the yellow and red penalty area videos - your explanations are clear, but I'm not sure if I missed something. What is the difference between the red and yellow pa because the drop options seems the same.

      Sharief thanks for the views! The difference between the yellow and red penalty areas is that with the red penalty areas you have the extra option to drop within two club lengths of the entry point. Hope this helps! Have a blessed day!

    Could you summarize the differences between a yellow margined penalty area and red margined penalty area.

      David thanks for the view and comment! Check out our Red Penalty Area video for more information but to summarize, Red Penalty Areas have all the options of Yellow Penalty Areas plus an additional option to take a drop within 2-Club lengths of the entry point for a 1-stroke penalty. Hope this helps and have a blessed day!

    In 2023, after this video was made, the rule on taking "back on the line" relief has changed. As before you can go back (as far as you like) on the line between flag and penalty area entry point. But now there is no longer any need to measure out a semi-circle "drop zone". You just drop the ball on the line (preferably marked with a tee peg) and provided that it does not roll more than one club distance (in any direction, including nearer the hole) from where it dropped, it is in play. If you think about it, the semi-circle drop zone was a bit of a nonsense, when it was up to you how far back you wanted to go in the first place.

    What if I hit my ball into a penalty area and I can't find it? Is that a lost ball?

    • @girgolfllc
      @girgolfllc  9 місяців тому

      Great question. If you knowingly or are virtually certain your ball has come to rest inside a red or yellow penalty area it is not a lost ball and you are entitled to the relief options for either red or yellow penalty areas.

  • @jamesthrower3865

    After you hit into the yellow penalty area, knowing you can drop from area where you hit from, with a penalty stroke. Can you play a provisional ball from that area? The reasoning of my question is, because I’m so far from the area where ball entered penalty area and to not cause slow play. My provisional shot hits the green. But when I get to the penalty area where first ball entered I see that I actually do have a shot. Can I play that shot from there in hopes of hitting the green. Every time I hear of using a provisional ball, it’s from the tee box.

    • @girgolfllc
      @girgolfllc  3 роки тому

      James thanks for watching the video and great question! The rules of golf explicitly say that you can ONLY hit a provisional ball if you think your ball is lost or out of bounds. If you hit your ball into a yellow or red penalty area and you elect to hit your next shot at the site of your last stroke like you mentioned that new ball is in play with 1 penalty stroke. Example: Tee shot goes into the yellow penalty area and you hit another ball from the teeing ground. No matter where the first ball is whether you can play it or not, you have just hit shot #3 for the tee no matter where it ended up. Basically this rule prevents someone from playing best ball on a hole. Hope this helps!

    How about if the ball is lost after 3 mins searching? What will be the penalty?

    • @girgolfllc
      @girgolfllc  2 роки тому

      Thanks for the view and comment!
      If you are virtually certain the ball has come to rest inside a red or yellow penalty area then you have the options for these areas with a 1-stroke penalty. This is true even if after 3 minutes of searching you don’t find the ball.
      If you are not for certain that the ball has come to rest inside a penalty area and could be lost in the general area or out of bounds then you have to take a drop at the site of your last stroke with a 1-stroke penalty because you are not certain this would be the only option.
      Hope this helps and have a blessed day!

    You’re allowed to move penalty stakes out of your way, correct?

    • @girgolfllc
      @girgolfllc  2 роки тому +1

      Karl thanks for the view!! Yes you are permitted under the rules of golf to remove yellow and red stakes if they interfere with your golf shot in any way.
      They are classified as movable obstructions. Be sure to put back the stakes after your shot.
      Please note that you cannot take relief from white stakes or other objects that mark out of bounds.
      Hope this helps! Thanks and have a blessed day!

      The only difference between a Red and Yellow Penalty Area is that with a Yellow Penalty Area you have all the options of a Red Penalty Area except there is NOT an option to take a drop within 2-club lengths of your entry point. Hope this helps!

    An excruiating long winded explanation that may even be wrong. He says you can take a penalty drop within ONE club length. Under Penalty, I am fairly sure that it is TWO club lengths - happy for someone to correct me!

    Why not just play the ball as it lies As you said for 1 stroke penalty. Instead of going through all the other options. This is where guys get ALL CONFUSED you showed us where it landed when it went into Yellow P.Area and said I CAN PLAY THIS as I found it. Yet you brought 2 other solutions into the game that are not needed and only slow down the pace of play. Am I missing something
