Just wondering... by making that modification, wouldn't you be lowering the air pressure on the intake side of the box therefore causing less airflow through the filter?
All of the changes (additional openings) are on the airbox outside of the filter so that ALL air passes through the filter it just makes more air available but there is only a marginal gain in my opinion.
Cut the whole intake resonator. I cut it off on my GXP. Made a rectangular cut where the resonator is and smoothed it out so in sucks air like the 2001 Camaro/trans am airboxes.
Yes dremel would with the right bit. It will take a little longer as many of the bits are a lot smaller. The plastic is very easy to cut with any high speed cutting bit.
@gambietti ... Three bolts after you remove the lid. Be careful of the side bolts as they are no longer available as far as I know. In lip the lid and undo the hose clamp and unplug the MAF sensor. After you remove the lid there are two bolts on the side and one in front visible when the hood is wide open. Once the bolts are out lift and slide out back towards the engine. About a 10 minute job.
@Jerry it seems the sound is not really any different to me. There is no “Turkey Gobble” as others have described with the Cold air intake. The sound chambers are still there I just chose to enlarge the area air can pull from to the filter.
You may want to research also removing the fins inside the air box. I know years ago on car forums it was popular to completely smooth out the air box. I have never tested or tried myself so could be fools gold.
For a turbo car volume trumps airflow. For an NA car Car it would likely help a bunch though. In fact with the turbo mods the cold air intake does not help the turbo cars either. The stock air cleaner is just fine.

Great idea ... I really want to keep the airbox looking as “unmodified” as possible to avoid any extra ‘attention’ during bi-annual smog inspections
I do not have a diy grinder. Would a Dremel work?

@@350tiger great, thank you. Now to figure out how to remove it

I wonder how is gonna affect the sound when revving the engine, I know CAI dont really sound all that great because of the turbo.
Well ... I will have to let you know after it is all back together 😎

@@350tiger thanks for testing this. The “Turkey Gobble” is the worst.
Is this whole kit from RPM motor sports
Most of the kit is RPM ... but I did get the charge tubes from DDM only because they had a special online. Martin has a fantastic product as well!
