I have been selling on Ebay since 2000, and it has gotten to the point that I don't sell anything over $100, because of how much money I lost in returns, people have bought working items and returned their broken stuff.
I’m in Georgia and the USPS upgraded their sorting center. Our mail service has been terrible. Mail being returned to us 4 weeks later. That went on for two months. It’s starting to get better now. Sorry you guys are having problems too.
I don’t do returns. I provide very accurate measurements and most items are new with tags. I think most people have an Amazon return attitude now. Just buy and return. I’m not going to have people return my new items with cat/dog hair and wrinkled when they weren’t shipped that way.
@@hp4415 I thought that was only if item not as described. I also want to say I am only a part time reseller. My livelihood doesn’t depend on it. I was actually sympathizing with you, but I guess it didn’t come out that way. It’s frustrating. I have had two people request return and I said no. Ebay told me I didn’t have to except either return.
@@eileenpayne3446 some customers are honest but some dishonest and will falsely claim items not as described so they can return . That’s is what i meant when i said they can return if they want to.
Yep, returns coming in strong!! Sales very low. I work full-time and resell part-time. Inspired by you to try to list 5 items a day. Not seeing much increase. Just must be the economy and time of year?? Appreciate your videos and honesty! Agree 100% on the return frustrations!!
Thankfully, we have absolutely seen an increased by doing 20 a day consistently. I just wish it would’ve stayed as busy as it was at the beginning of June for the whole month!
The thing that annoys me the most is when someone returns something because they didn't read the description, then on top of it they leave negative feedback 😡
Sorry for your troubles- I have been listing 10 a day (7 days a week) since March and starting last Monday I have switched to a dollar amount daily and it has really took the stress off me. I chose 200.00 a day b/c I want to make 100.00 (net) a day so I just doubled it. No reason just something I wanted to try. I am going to stick with this thru the in end of July and see if the sales increase. I am trying to find better and higher dollar items. Today I only needed to list two things to reach my goal so I just kept listing and have the next four days already listed and scheduled. Hang in there!
I feel you on returns. I had a Kids size 12 Ralph Lauren Tennis skirt with pictures of the measurements that was returned because the customer thought it was a women's size 12. She said that ebay sent her a notification of my listing and she paid for it without looking at the pictures or description. So annoying. Have you ever looked at your Traffic tab to see how your store is performing vs the sales tab. I think that will be consistent as far as knowing if eBay is giving you less business versus looking at the daily sales.
A system where the buyer benefits by lying (getting paid returns) and is motivated to do so and the sellers wind up not only losing money, but being punished by ebay with lowering in search is unfair. I also have had packages travelling all over the US. I dropped a bunch off at the post office and one is not tracking, the rest are.
I’m so sorry that you are dealing with all the customer issues. Life would be so much better if people would just read the description! I don’t do returns. I know that I may need to eventually. I also understand that a buyer can open a return if an item is “not as described “ and if it is, I will ALWAYS make it right for my customers. I don’t sell much in the adult clothing category. (I sell mostly kids items and toys.) I have never had any issues at all. If it makes you feel better, my store has been pretty slow, too. I just went full time at the beginning of June, so I have been listing a ton, too. I have had some good days, but some days just stink. Keep your head up, things will get better! Just keep listing. It will pay off eventually. 😊 Thanks for keeping things real. I enjoy watching your videos. Have a great one. 😊
New seller here and I have my first return request. Return rate is 1.89% with 53 items sold. I provided very good close up pics with flaws and noted in description. I accepted a $10 offer partly because the EVA Birkenstocks had a stain that I couldn’t get out and the toe had some wear. Buyer stated she just didn’t like them. Still waiting for her to return them and they have until July 16. They received item on June 6. I also gave her detailed instructions twice on how to return the item because she kept saying she didn’t know how to do it. I am beyond frustrated with this $10 sale so I know how you feel.
Mercari does not nearly get the traffic that eBay does. I could definitely use it as a supplemental site, just like I do for Poshmark, but I could never support my family on just Mercari.
He actually just changed it to positive. I refunded him and opened a claim through the post office so I sent him a message asking him to please change it since none of this was my fault and he got his money back. Thankfully, he did.
I think you’re doing great! Congratulations on sticking with your ambitious goals. I am wondering if people start running out of money towards the end of the month 🤔
I appreciate your honesty in sharing the highs and lows of reselling. Sorry the returns have found you, but I know it’ll turn around. I can’t help in your algorithm. I’ve only had one return, back when I didn’t offer returns. Yes, they lied and returned as INAD. I’ve recently changed to buyer-paid returns and am bracing for my first one. I did have a question. Where the buyer pays the return, do you refund the original shipping? I’m still contemplating why to do. Thanks and chin up!
I ordered a package that was shipped from California, got to the NJ processing center (we are in NJ) - then went back to California! Then got re-routed around California for a bit and finally found us about 3 and 1/2 weeks later. I have a 0.90% return rate with 900 items but I only have about 100 pieces of clothing.
I don’t know what is going on with the post office! I haven’t had it be this bad since the Christmas of 2020. That’s a great return rate! Thanks for taking the time to answer.
I think buyers, when they receive items, just end up regretting buying it in the first place and lie to get the return because they know eBay will approve it. I got a return because of the shade of the color green, when they took a picture to open a return they took it in dark lighting 😂 I'm like whatever they probably didn't like how it fit. My point is they don't think about how it affects us as seller's in the algorithm. I mean, it doesn't matter in what platform you sale, sales tend to slow down after a return, and that's what I dislike. However, great job consistency is key❤
I had somebody return a shirt because it was pink and wasn't lilac and that was her favorite color. Without explaining the situation, I asked everybody in my house what color the shirt was and of course they said light purple/lilac.
@@myresellerlife4666 I recently had someone return a Chicos two piece set. I listed it as dark purple and they insisted up and down It was navy blue. I asked everybody around and they said it was purple. I even messaged the buyer and said I think this is just a situation where people see colors differently.
I'm sorry about all the returns. I sell hard goods, so rarely do I have a return. However, don't get me started on USPS. I had a $65 sale last month simply vanish (I reimbursed the buyer) and now am trying to resolve a $400 sale (insured) that was shipped 2 weeks ago, spent several days in the city where the recipient lives, and now seems to have vanished as well. I am sick about it. Although I'm truly sorry for your reselling headaches, there is some comfort that I'm not the only one with slower sales and USPS ineptitude. As always, thanks for your insight.
i was going gangbusters but then someone messaged me the vintage clock did not keep time... i sent refund and to her to keep clock... sales been slow after so i think im in the dog house...

Well, since this is our full-time job, I don’t think we would survive with only 26 listings! 🤣 I too suffer from anxiety, so this is a lot less pressure than actually working for someone else.

So sorry to hear about your bad streak, it does seem to come in streaks doesn't it? I sell only shoes and really don't get a lot of returns but my rate is 6.56%, 72 of 1.159 transactions and like I said I really don't get many, maybe 2 or 3 a month at the most and not every month. I do free shipping and free returns to get the 10% top rated seller discount and bump in search but I don't think it's high in my opinon and I also provide multiple measurements of the shoes in my photos. My daughter sells on ebay and she doesn't even provide measurements anymore because she got tired of taking the time to add them and then to have so many people ask for them so they obviously weren't looking at the photos. When they ask for them she refers them to the brands website and size chart and she doesn't get that many more returns then when she did provide them. I have seen some resellers complaining about USPS, they stated they dont get refunded for items unless they are over 200.00 and some use Pirateship for insurance reasons. Not sure if this helps as i am Canadian and i find your system confusing. our postal service is insanely expensive and unreliable.
I’m thinking about getting around it by opening a second account through USPS using a different email address. That’s how much I hate having to call people. 🤣🤣🤣
95% of them go USPS flat rate boxes. But if they’re super heavy meaning over 70 pounds or very large in diameter, they have to go UPS and then the price gets insane.
I would be ticked too but your responses to their comments did make me laugh. I get clothing returns like yours where they don’t check measurements! Very annoying!
Why is reading so hard for some people? I would much rather take the time to read and measure than deal with getting an item that doesn’t fit and having to send it back.

I provide very accurate measurements too. But the real problem lies in getting the people to look at the measurements.
If you selling on eBay and most other platforms, you can’t just set no return thinking you are all set. Customer can return if they want to
