    In this video I test POM OC Spray to determine how much is in them, the effective range, whether it's flammable or not, its durability, and the UV dye.
    I highly recommend this stuff if you're looking for a good pepper spray carry option. Check them out on Amazon or at: get-pom.com

    The fact that you stated there was "blowback" indicates that there was some wind resistance in the direction you were spraying. It's possible it may travel further in better wind conditions.

    I ended up getting 2 of them on their website, one for my wife and one for myself. My wife is a bit anti gun, so she doesn't carry, however I carry every single day. I feel a lot more comfortable knowing that soon I'll be carrying something that isn't lethal but still effective!

    Thanks for making this video. Looks like the useful range is probably 8 feet. Beyond that I'd recommend keeping the POM out of sight so as not to escalate a tense situation. I've watched a lot of the "Active Self Protection" videos and I'm now adding POM to me EDC (every day carry).

      The only thing that this has going for it over sabre crossfire pepper gel is the clip facing up so you don't have to reposition when you take it out of your pocket, if this was one and a half ounces like sabre the stream could be stronger and go farther, they should give you the option for a larger size and I'd be sold.

    I've been looking at many self defense sprays. This one caught my eye mainly because of the color options. It doesn't scream pepper spray do I can carry this at work where I can't carry a gun. As I work late at night, and where my dumpster is at is right behind a strip club where many drunk dudes have been horrible to deal with, this gives me something.

    The outside temp could have an effect on how far it travels by changing the pressure in the can

    • @Andrew-qo6br
      @Andrew-qo6br 4 роки тому +2

      Good point. I wonder what the temperature was during POM's test, they probably didn't state it... the "claims" for most products are in a perfect lab environment. I usually take the stated claims and automatically take 20% off to get real world expectations.

      At least on the $25 SKU I bought, they come in pairs: one keychain, one with a belt clip. So you can sprinkle them around liberally lol to whatever works for you. I think also in some areas a lot of people have contactless ignition (or EV starting)

    BTW, best to use your thumb to fire the spray, rather than your index finger. Gives you a better grip and if your attacker manages to keep coming at you, your hand is already in a punching fist. Learned that watching John on his ASP channel discussing the proper use of pepper sprays! Thanks for the neat demo!

    I was watching active self protection and he recommended carrying this. So I got on amazon and started looking at reviews. Most were positive but I did see some of the same negatives. Such as the snap that covers the discharge button breaking off. One person even got sprayed when this happened. That doesn’t give me much confidence in the product. I know bad things can happen with all stuff though. But it’s nice to see someone test the heck out of it. Thanks!!

    Thank you for this test.
    I've tested a few pepper sprays on paper targets, many of them were more or less the same size.
    The mentionned impact range that are claimed are just the absolute range of the stream, *it is just a commercial argument* .
    In my opinion, considering the range and the small amount of product available (1/2 to 1 oz - 17 to 30 mL), the stream, the stress and precision, I would say the ideal distance for use is about 1 to 1.2 meters.
    (distance between the spray itself and the agressor's face).
    That makes about nearly 2 meters between you and him, and that's the safety distance he must not break into.

    I've gone through metal detectors with POM. Also, something important, pom has a higher percentage of the stuff that shuts down your eyes and nose via swelling. Forgive me, I don't remember the technical term for it, but essentially, where most sprays will be at the %10 level, there's another value that's more important, because even if an attacker can withstand the burning, he/she will be unable to open their eyes and breath through the nose pure to the pure biological reaponse it activates. Pom has the highest ratio on the market of this unless you are carrying an illegal police or military grade spray. Even bear spray contains the same ratio or less.

    • @CarolinaGunGuy
      @CarolinaGunGuy  4 роки тому +4

      To answer as best as I can:
      1. I think the clip will last awhile, but can't speculate as to how long. It's in my pocket everyday and holds well. I've carried two different ones over the last 10 months with no issues.
      2. Not sure how much is in each. You'll have to ask POM.
      3. I think they only make the one size.

    I have a keyring version, and for as easily as the flip-top cover releases I am concerned about it getting caught on keys or other pocket items and being able to accidentally spray, particularly when pulling it or another thing out of my pocket. How hard does the button need to be pressed to spray? Would you compare the pressure to the amount needed for common bug killing sprays, or maybe spray paint?

    • @CarolinaGunGuy
      @CarolinaGunGuy  4 роки тому

      I recommend that you test it yourself. Go outside and spray a couple of short bursts downwind. I would recommend trying to spray with your index finger (harder than you might imagine) then with your thumb. This way you practice a couple different positions, and should the day come when you ever need to use it, you'll know which way works best for you.

      Is anything legal to carry in NYC? I think NY state has limits on the % of OC, and I think this exceeds that. Google it, but I'm 99% sure this is not legal in NYC.

    After initial use..how long will the remaining spray be good for?Or is it recommended to replace after use.?Thank..Joe

    • @CarolinaGunGuy
      @CarolinaGunGuy  3 роки тому

      To the best of my knowledge, initial use doesn't break a seal or anything, so the remaining amount is good for as long as an unused spray would be. You can e-mail POM and ask them though. If you have less than half remaining, I'd probably replace just to have a full canister, or replace every 18-24 months anyway.

    I’ve herd the foam is better then spray .

      Foam is slower acting and you have to be very close to get any coverage. I was sprayed with stream, foam, cone and most recently Gel. Foam and Gel took the longest to take effect. I felt stream and cone were most intense. Foam and gel are for cops in hospitals or court rooms. Civilian defense stream works best for most people.

    Barely is all you need…what was on that paper would have vaporized and make you very unhappy. POM is a great product, used mine once to end a fight on 3 on 1 in front of a movie theatre. A older guy was getting stomped by 3 younger guys with others just starting to gather. Striped the 3 guys and a little on the victim as well. Ended that fight real quick and only one managed to run away before the police got the other 2 in cuffs. After they watched the video, I was free to leave. Had to laugh when you used a saw…the cover just slips off.

    How much pressure is needed to get the POM to spray?

    • @tacitcaltechnlogy1277
      @tacitcaltechnlogy1277 2 роки тому +1

      My mom has carpel tunnel and arthritis and she can easily spray Pom thanks to the floating actuator. She can’t use her thumb to spray those twist lock or recessed flip top sprays but if you look at POM the actuator is raised (Pom calls it floating actuator). As long as you get your thumb under the flip it takes little pressure to spray the unit. Great design IMO,

    Dude you press the trigger with your thumb, not index finger

    • @CarolinaGunGuy
      @CarolinaGunGuy  4 роки тому +1

      Have you held a POM? Clip it in your pocket, then test retrieving/spraying with your index finger then thumb. It's actually faster to grab and shoot with your index finger with the way it's designed. You can get your index finger on the trigger while it's in your pocket and be spray-ready when you remove it; not so easy when using your thumb.
