I picked up my new Scamp 13 on 4/15/2022 and Sandy did the walk through. She did a good job of explaining the features and answering my questions. I also got the cook top with the glass cover, and highly recommend it. However, Dometic issued a recall on my cook top stove and I drove the 345 miles from north central Iowa to Backus in June to have it replaced. So far I have not had any other issues with my Scamp. I am currently in the process of winterizing the Scamp before freezing weather arrives.
@@picsburgh Scamp has a list of all the serial numbers for the units that were recalled. You could call them and ask for the list, or at least give them your serial number so they can check. I was first notified by Scamp of a possible recall. I then had to contact Dometic with information about my unit. A few weeks later Dometic sent me an email saying that my cooktop was indeed on the recall list, and gave me options on how to get it replaced. I chose to have Scamp do it, because they knew how it was installed and I didn't want anyone else messing with my Scamp. BTW: The cooktops were recalled due to a posslble gas leak around the burner valves...that could cause a fire.
Great job. Nice to have a video to go with the manual. (I have a basic 2000 13', made me kinda glad I don't have water, bathroom, furnace, ac, brakes or battery, lol. I don't go far or fast...)
@@picsburgh haha. Well, sleep or no sleep, it’s a lot of info. You did good in recording it. I didn’t get a walk through of my camper. However, thanks to a couple of fb groups and youtube, I have managed. Though, I unscrewed the Anode rod without opening the pressure valve. So glad it just cut my finger a bit. It could have been real ugly.
Just picked up my scamp yesterday. Pray all goes well. I do see some issues already will contact Scamp to get them fixed. I will keep you posted to see how that goes. Bummer will have to drive it back to Backus MN though. Do you know if they have any places other than Backus to get repairs done?
Yes. You can take it nearly anywhere. I had to get a leaking window fixed locally. I’m 17 hours from the factory, no way I wanted to go back to get it fixed 😂.
I understand that at full capacity, it's 100lbs and it could cause an imbalance on that side of the camper, but Sandy mentions having water and boondocking. Does that mean there is a safe way to travel with enough water in the fresh water tank to sustain you for a few days?
I know this is old but maybe new info...what's point of a a water tank if you can't fill it up to Boondock. If you can only run water in campgrounds what's the point of a trailer. Obviously something wrong with this info or I'm missing something. One issue I found on another trailer the hose connections broke at tank. Huge repair. Company said shouldn't travel with water in tank as it bounces and can cause damage. Owner baffled. Install of tank very poor. This was 5th wheel surely a shower, toilet but no water to use in them....
Young man was me, thanks. She was very motherly and I was very overwhelmed too. If I had a little it more sleep I would have been fine but the night before was a nightmare (hotel was awful). Thank you for watching !!
I pick mine up late fall... How's that fridge working while traveling. Seems no problem while hooked up to truck and driving. If stopped for awhile, do you pull the 7 connector from truck so it doesn't drain battery. Also, I got the solar package for keeping the battery charged while boondocking. Did you consider that option? Thanx, and hope you have a great summer of camping.
I haven’t used the fridge yet but I will likely have it run while driving. I do put the 7 connector when park. I didn’t consider solar because I am soooo uneducated on it. I may do something solar down the line. Thanks you too on camping this summer! Enjoy!
@@jackieflynt995 Hey Jackie, I paid 475 dollars for the solar kit for the 2024 model. It's the suitcase style solar panel that you keep inside the trailer and set it up when parked. It hooks up to a exterior jack...Simple. I used to have a van with 400 watts of solar with a 2000 wt inverter. Once I get comfortable with the Scamp I will look into what I can do with a solar (190 watt single panel) on roof along with lithium batteries. I'm not getting a A/C unit, so should have some room to work with. Hope that helped. If anyone who reads this has done the solar upgrade on a 16' Scamp, love to hear from you..!
So how tall are you? I am 6'1 and don't want to Duck inside the rig. We are in Minnesota now and was planning on going up to check the Scamps out. You might save me a trip.
This is not a knock against Scamp, but after watching this detailed explanation of features, I cannot help but be very happy I bought a Casita 17. The 2 way water heater, single outlet sewer drain, shower function, MUCH larger holding tanks, sturdier cabinets and table and most importantly interior height difference give me a more pleasant camping experience. That said, it is still a nice trailer, just 1.0 versus 2.0.
I agree. I wish the height was just a bit higher. I might end up switching up to a Casita or Escape mostly due to my height. I still love the Scamp so far though. I hope I don’t have holding tank problems and I can live with the separate grey and black water hookups for now.
What is the interior height? We are in Minnesota now and was planning on going to the Scamp show room and then head down to Hohenwald to look at the Casitas. I am 6'1 and am tired of bumping my head on everything...
@@chillywilly3397 I believe the interior height is 6’1’’ some say 6’2’’ but im 6’2’’ and have to lean. The AC on the ceiling drops that even lower, you have to lean more walking under it.
Been looking at one for awhile. Tried finding a used one for a few years but its so hard to find. New might be the only option. Can you tell me the approximate cost?
Hey Ian. They start at about 25k and with a few options are now pushing 30k I bought right before a huge jump in price though fortunately but I still paid about $25,000 for mine. Same options I priced recently and it is now about 5k more.
I hope they bring down the prices a bit or the world starts adjusting our pay so that we can afford basic fun objects to make life more interesting. There will also be a flood of used scamps and RVs on the market soon enough and the prices on used should come down too.
