I'm actually a little conflicted on this one: loved the end result BUT the peel-and-stick tile was just not it, it looked like you could tell it was stickers. Also thought the fridge sticker was way too prominent and it distracted from the rest of that beautiful kitchen. Lastly: I wonder where all the things from her counter went? Like the coffee machine etc? Wouldn't she need those things regularly?
I agree. I think the fridge sticker would've been less in-your-face if the backslash was just white and not the patterned tile, but it's pretty busy in that small space. I suspect the other appliances were taken out for final shots, but I'd have loved to see how she incorporated them into the small space. I think the 3 day limit definitely factored into the design choices
Wah wah wah so many whiners, I think it looked amazing compared to the dated, 90's tile underneath. If you don't like the tile stickers, don't use them! Smh
I also think removing a backsplash and tiling it new is not that hard and in most cases more cost effective than many peel and stick tile alternatives.
I think it would have looked better and been more forgiving if she had used large subway style tiles. Peel and stick is not my favourite but I think in the smaller tiles you can see the seems as the grout lines were thicker where she had joined sheets together
IKEA sells hole covers for adjustable shelf holes called Variera. They’re removable if you later want to adjust shelf placement and they’re incredibly low priced too
I wonder if they'd work in non-ikea cabinets -- renovating a house to move into and are painting the existing cabinets (which are good quality but very dark wood with an ornate design we don't like). I'm planning on taking the doors off 2 of the cabinets in order to display our teapots and mugs. The cabinets have holes similar to the ones in this video. Maybe those ikea covers will work!
Good on you for going outside your comfort zone! Love the finished look. Tips for painting cabinets if you can't spray (which is ideal): 1) sand with a really fine grit sandpaper (220 or 300) between coats and 2) use a mini roller to backroll after painting with a paintbrush, this will help you eliminate the streakiness of the paint.
Next time maybe bring the cabinet doors to your loft and spray paint them? You could do more coats in less time and the result would be perfection, not beginner. Your design is terrific!
I really love what you did with this kitchen! The before and after is literally crazy. You would never know what the kitchen looked like before. But I also share the thoughts of some people here in the comments that some of the finishes were just not on point. But I want to say that you had to work in a tiny apartment, the owners did not make any room for you, you had a small amount of time and the viewers should take this into account. Almost anything that was criticized in the comments can still easily be fixed by the owners. Like give the cabinets another coat if they feel like it is necessary, seal them, make more room on the countertop as well. (Taking into account that they might not even care because the transformation is everything.) I think Team AG did an amazing job!
Quick tip for cabinet doors: paint the backs first and then the fronts to minimize the touch ups needed. Teal is my favorite color, so I’m absolutely in love with this kitchen!!!!
Am I the only one who thinks the old tiles went rather well with the new paint color for the cabinets? Covering that bit of extra tile at the bottom of course. I didn't care for the refrigerator covering; too busy for me. Painting cabinets is really tricky and the tip about adding tint to the primer is right on. Our housepainter did that for our exterior paint job. Loved the sink and new light choice.
Absolutely, it was a big transformation. Congrats on the drawer reorg, always worthwhile & it's something we really need to do ourselves. I only moved two pieces of furniture around yesterday and I'm still stiff from the awkwardness of having no leverage & doing it with only 2 arms 😊
Does anyone else like the og tile and wish it was used in the final design? I think with the new countertops and painted cabinets it could have looked awesome!
Such an awesome makeover AG! As someone who has undertaken the kitchen cabinet painting makeover, it is definitely a commitment haha! (And curious cats going in cupboards make it more difficult). But I do have a suggestion for anyone else planning on doing this - top coat! The scratches and spills etc on the paint show and I wish I had done a clear sealer or top coat on my cabinet doors to protect them.
It's possible she specifically tells them not to so that she can see how they're truly using the space and also for the more impactful before/after shot
@@apatak2 I think that's pretty unlikely considering that videos/photos along with an explanation of their space/needs are submitted during the application process. And as we've seen with several of her videos, Alexandra then meets with the client on a video call where they once again show/explain their space/needs. Leaving a mess cuts into the already very limited time frame she has to complete these makeovers.
@@apatak2 Yes, I felt it was more realistic to see real owned objects. Otherwise it would be only a few props as in kitchen showrooms. I enjoy seeing the real contents reorganised. It's only that this one was on such a tight schedule. Besides, I felt that this way they had full use of their kitchen right up until the start day.
I know this was hard to do because it's such a small space and the owner didn't clear out the space for you, but you did such an amazing job!!! I completely agree with all your choices which took into account - budget, style, space, and the time alloted. One of your best!!
Hi friends!! Just wanted to clarify something: I mention right off the top that this makeover ISN’T renter-friendly (Kristy owns the condo!). The reason I put renter-friendly ideas in the title it because even though this is a reno, there are lots of renter-friendly ideas layered in this video: changing the knobs, wallpapering the fridge and peel-and-stick backsplash to name a few! Not trying to mislead anyone, rather just making sure everyone (no matter if you rent or own) can get something out of the video. That’s all!!! 💕 Saying all that, the video title has been changed and renter-friendly has been removed ✨
The whole idea is about design, and Alexandra just transforms very small areas in very little time and budget. If you were doing your own these are great ideas, and you can research the methods yourself.........there are lots of videos about all of those. Love all the videos even if they are not all my personal taste..they are full of inspiration. Thank you.
So inspirational. I need to do my tiny 35 year old kitchen and want to remove the top cabinets, paint the bottom and replace the countertop. You made it look easier than I imagined. You are sooo talented.
This was a huge stretch from what you normally do! You made it absolutely gorgeous! I just find you to be the most watchable likable woman, I’m definitely on the older side if your demographic for sure at almost 60, but I never miss one of your videos! Fabulous job! 💗💗🙌🏻🙌🏻
I love it! I think the tiles could have used some paint, or even white out, where the seams of the peel and stick met because the darker wall tile makes them a bit obvious.
LOVE LOVE LOVE the colour scheme in this makeover. I pretty much like it all, but wish the finish looked a little smoother on the cabinet doors and the tile was not as 'gappy' even just a minute amount shows unfortunately. Its just the finer detail that lets this otherwise amazing makeover down. I'm planning to have mine done, but sending them off to be sprayed by professionals. I hope my comments come across as constructive and not mean. Xx
That colour is perfection! ❤️❤️❤️ We did a full kitchen reno, new floor, painted cabinets, new ceiling height cabinet, re-tiled, new cooker and sink and countertops, and more... 8 days!!!
I generally think you do such a great job with peel and stick but this time they looks sloppy. I think the small tiles made it harder for sure, and you were probably in a rush to get it done in time. The colors are beautiful and love the ideas, but the tiles and even the paint look a little sloppy. Constructive criticism, not hate. Love you AG!
I think it’s how tiny the tiles are, so more fake “grout” lines to try and line up exactly. The subway tile (like the kind she has in her kitchen) is more forgiving I think because you have less grout lines to line up and try and lay over.
Okay, some of the comments need to lighten up. Alexandra doesn't claim she is a professional interior designer. She is doing renter friendly makeovers with small budgets and little time. Renter friendly means you may not be able to caulk the tile without ruining it when the renter needs to leave everything in original condition. Danielle, below, experienced in using Advance so often, is able to shed light on the paint and how it works but not everyone may be as experienced as she is with the paint. The overall look and feel is stunning. Love the integration of design elements and colors ie towels with cabinet/drawer pulls, fridge, light fixture, faucet and the very white stove. The cabinet color is beautiful. Great job team AG!
I do love the overall design and colors, I love how Alexandra is pushing for more complicated tasks like this one, the content feels new and a change from the usual, which is fun to watch. I don't like how the peel-and-stick tales look though, since they were running to finish on time I think you can tell where one sticker ends and where the other starts, and it bothers my OCD so much. But is a good learning experience that the smaller tile designs are trickier and if you don't have time or experience, it may be better to get a design with bigger tiles like the pink ones in her kitchen. But since they are so easy to peel off I think it's something easy to fix.
Alexandera. I love everyone of your makeovers. I recently moved into a new 1 bdrm apartmen.i have been binge watching and I'm learning with each one. Thank you for this channel and sharing your expertise in decorating on a budget.
So sad that you covered up the tile! But the subway tile is so her style. Call me crazy but I actually love the oranges in the tile with the aqua cabinets 🍊 🌊
Pro tip from Wendy of the kwendy home - most cabinet hinges have a quick release button, so you when you're taking them down you don't need to pull out a screwdriver. Huge game changer.
Love this..especially seeing the black sink. In Ohio I had a red sink which I loved and now in Maryland I have a beautiful black quartz sink. Because my kitchen is 4 x 11 feet and open to my living room, my son ordered a cutting board which fits into sink opening cor.xual purpose!
This is practically my kitchen! I painted my lower cabinets a dark blue-green, marble contact paper on the countertops right down to the gold hex knobs 😆 it’s awesome and I love how mine turned out and this just gave me so many ideas to add to it🥰
What goes around comes around. I did exactly that colour schemes in my kitchen in 1988. Except I used real white square tiles, but I painted my cupboards that same greeny/tealy colour. I loved it 🥰
I think it's time for team AG to invest in a professional paint sprayer AND to take lessons from a professional painter on how to use different types of paint in the right way. It will make every nice design so much more professional looking if the paint jobs weren't so sloppy.
I absolutely love the cabinets, but until the very end I was sceptical because I felt like it needed another softer, warm colour to counter them. But with the dried goods and the towel it has that and it looks so good. The first thing when I started the video that came to my mind was that I would keep the backsplash if it were my kitchen. I love the colours and it's so different and rustic and I'd love it with a rustic eclectic maximalist style. But I'm sure that that's not what the owner would have wanted at all, she said she wanted it modern and airy and you accomplished that so well!! it really looks so so good and clean and suddenly like there's more space. I love the bold cabinets, but I think it needed that warm touch of a less prominent different colour. You completely transformed this space and made it unrecognisable and it looks a million times better now.
Soooooo many comments critiquing here I thought the kitchen came out AMAZING!!! Compared to what she had before it was beautiful! I LOVED the wallpaper on the fridge turned it from an ugly white fridge to a beautiful piece of art!
This is such a big project I would like to have you seen split into 2 episodes. I would loved to have seen you add storage and work space. Beautiful cabinet color!! I really liked how the tea towel repeated the shape from the drawer pulls. Thanks for a great half hour
What a difference!! You’ve definitely sold me on swapping out knobs & lights. I’m moving into my new apartment TOMORROW!!!!!!! Can’t wait to really design the space. Thank you for sharing your free app to make mood boards!!! So excited & looking forward to sharing
Between the hexagons and the aqua color, it's like this reno was made for me. My condo kitchen is also feeling so old, and this is a great inspiration!
My primary take away - take the time to do it right. If that means adding a few days to the job, that's what it means. There isn't anything "wrong" with the design choices but even Alexandra spoke of making choices for time not money or preference. I think that making the choice to add a day or two, get the cabinet paint done right, order new fridge handles, etc. And it would have been a better outcome.
It came out well anyways. I mean she took three days to make that, in three people. We are not counting the prep and online browsing for products. But once you have everything making it over in three days is good for everyone. Why is it unfair for the people offering their space?
@@tizgelmi well, with speeding up a project, usually corners have to be cut, like prep. The paint needed more time to cure, I'm guessing none of the space was prepped with cleaning, sanding, etc. I saw paint spots on the floor from where paint was dropped...you might not be able to see the details, but the person that volunteered their space has to live with a poorly executed job that was rushed. I'd love to have her go back after the person has lived with the space for a few months to see how well it kept up. I'm betting that won't happen tho.
@@marissal9707 i didnt notice them but to be honest if she did my space for free and installed all the products she gets for free, I‘d be more than happy to clean a few stains after she leaves...it‘s called being grateful.
@@tizgelmi exactly! if the only problem is the paint, i will gladly do it over on my own. the most important thing that she did is to TRANSFORM the whole space -i wont be mad with the paint issue tbh! im new in this channel and IM LOVING IT!!!
I used paint meant for kitchen cabinets and chalk paint and never once did I sanded nor primed the surface. It held on splendidly. I just did a top coat by the end of the year in one of the kitchens just 'cause you know how oil tends to hold on to things and that paint was white, but it literally took me 20 min to do a "refinish" if you will.
Ok, so this is probably the first time I'm really kinda disappointed in one of her makeovers. This just proves that you really have to prepare and have the proper amount of time for something like this. You can see the rectangles of tiles she cut out, up close the cabinets were still a bit streaky. There were so many things she didn't do because there wasn't time. I love the vision, I just don't think it came out 100% 😕
There was an obvious line down the middle of the fridge too, where the two stickers met. I get the impression this was a very rushed job. Saying that, I liked the vision, especially the cupboard paint colour.

The fridge would start my migraines, I mean its to busy. But you did a great remodel in 3 days!! 👍🏻😁
You are correct! What is with these ugly fridge make-overs? Leave it alone.
I loved the tile design but you could definitely see the seams
Wah wah wah so many whiners, I think it looked amazing compared to the dated, 90's tile underneath. If you don't like the tile stickers, don't use them! Smh
I also think removing a backsplash and tiling it new is not that hard and in most cases more cost effective than many peel and stick tile alternatives.
I think it would have looked better and been more forgiving if she had used large subway style tiles. Peel and stick is not my favourite but I think in the smaller tiles you can see the seems as the grout lines were thicker where she had joined sheets together
I’m a renter but I like seeing you do a place that isn’t rented and doing some non-renter-friendly stuff! Still cool to watch and inspiring.
IKEA sells hole covers for adjustable shelf holes called Variera. They’re removable if you later want to adjust shelf placement and they’re incredibly low priced too
Good to know!
Plus they look a lot cleaner than smashing in some spackle 🤣
I wonder if they'd work in non-ikea cabinets -- renovating a house to move into and are painting the existing cabinets (which are good quality but very dark wood with an ornate design we don't like). I'm planning on taking the doors off 2 of the cabinets in order to display our teapots and mugs. The cabinets have holes similar to the ones in this video. Maybe those ikea covers will work!
One the best makeovers in AG history. I can't believe this one hasn't hit a million views.
WOW! I'm actually blown away with the peel and stick thing.
(Taking into account that they might not even care because the transformation is everything.)
I think Team AG did an amazing job!
painting is all about the prep, not the painting. No prep, no good paint. Doesn't matter how many coats there are.
Quick tip for cabinet doors: paint the backs first and then the fronts to minimize the touch ups needed. Teal is my favorite color, so I’m absolutely in love with this kitchen!!!!
Another good makeover. Doesn't matter what any of us think, as long as the homeowner loves it. It makes her happy.
You didn't degrease the cabinets or lightly sand them 1st??
This and light sanding after 1st coat would have gone a long way.
Haha this what many asked. 🤣 the paint will peel off..
You legit managed this incredible makeover during a pandemic and I'm here proud of myself for sorting out some crap in my drawers. You are killing it!
I haven't even sorted the crap out of my drawers, so you're doing great too!! 👏👏👏
Looks great! I would have covered the bottom row of the old tile and kept the old backsplash. It is so fun.
Hey, a lot of us in the comments have that same reaction!
made me laugh that you used command strips instead of a nail after literally ripping out the kitchen lol
It seems that all UA-camrs describe every makeover as “epic” or “extreme” and they almost never are. This one IS! So good. 👏👏👏
You are correct. It is being overused. I do think such label is applicable to this video.
It pisses me off everytime that people dont clear their own spaces out by themselves before she comes over 😅
It actually happens everytime she makes over a space😅 its kind of rude
I would require it! It makes the process so much easier.
I found the old tile lovely. Just needed different color cabinets.
I know this was hard to do because it's such a small space and the owner didn't clear out the space for you, but you did such an amazing job!!! I completely agree with all your choices which took into account - budget, style, space, and the time alloted. One of your best!!
Oh the original tiles are so beautiful. Thank God you didn't break them.
Thank you.
I loved the colorful tiles. Would love to have them in my own home xD tastes are different.
Loved them too! She actually renovated the fun out of this kitchen. But ....--if the owner is happy with it....
So inspirational. I need to do my tiny 35 year old kitchen and want to remove the top cabinets, paint the bottom and replace the countertop. You made it look easier than I imagined. You are sooo talented.
I believe they make plugs for the cabinet shelf holes.
I love when you make over other peoples spaces.
This was a huge stretch from what you normally do! You made it absolutely gorgeous! I just find you to be the most watchable likable woman, I’m definitely on the older side if your demographic for sure at almost 60, but I never miss one of your videos! Fabulous job! 💗💗🙌🏻🙌🏻
Love the end result. But for me that kitchen is pretty big 🤣
i Love the tiles before, theyre have such a unique decor 😍
I painted my cabinets very close to this color 2 years ago and they make me happy everytime I walk in my house!
Love the new color of the cabinets! But would have preferred the original tile (and match the cabinet color to one of the tile colors).
I love the stick on. What a difference.
Bravo fora masterful transformation.
I love it!
I think the tiles could have used some paint, or even white out, where the seams of the peel and stick met because the darker wall tile makes them a bit obvious.
Nice kitchen makeover. IMO: standouts are paint color, sink, faucet, counters, kitchen overhead light and hardware (draw pulls and knobs). Very good.
8 days!!!
that’s awesome!
I also think that due to the kind of tiles they chose to cover, peel and stick is not a good option here....
I think it’s how tiny the tiles are, so more fake “grout” lines to try and line up exactly. The subway tile (like the kind she has in her kitchen) is more forgiving I think because you have less grout lines to line up and try and lay over.
Again, poor execution of the idea. There was one HUGE "grout" line, and you could see every single tile.
It's not a rental. They could have just retiled. And that would have been cheaper than peel and stick.
Call me crazy but I actually love the oranges in the tile with the aqua cabinets 🍊 🌊
i love that cabinet color with the original backsplash, its so fun
Pro tip from Wendy of the kwendy home - most cabinet hinges have a quick release button, so you when you're taking them down you don't need to pull out a screwdriver. Huge game changer.
Love this..especially seeing the black sink. In Ohio I had a red sink which I loved
and now in Maryland I have a beautiful black quartz sink. Because my kitchen is 4 x 11 feet and open to my living room, my son ordered a cutting board which fits into sink opening cor.xual purpose!
"for dual purpose!"
I was just going to say the same thing... if this was my kitchen I would make them repaint them.
I think that what happened is they didn't clean the oil from the doors, so in those areas the paint didn't stick.
I agree. Great idea, very poor execution. For one thing, painting those cabinets was NOT a 3 day job.
I'm sorry but the peel and stick backsplash looks sloppy. You can clearly see each piece that was connected.
Rude
So beautiful A green kitchen is my dream !!!
Good call on leaving the shelf white!!
Everytime I hear her say that like 50% of people are not subscribed am like why... its FREE people and it helps her create for us!
Wow! I always love the makeovers the team does for each room but this one and a kitchen! - you’ve really outdone yourselves! Great job!! Love it!!
Just got a studio apartment so now I gotta style, design and organize it 'rental friendly' of course!
the peel and stick backslash in my kitchen - i installed it a decade ago!! People still always think it is tile!
Love it!!! Huge transformation! Love the Dragonfly color and love that you covered the fridge. ❤😊
That is beautiful! BEAUTIFUL. You really rocked this one, Alexandra!!
Okay. Gorgeous. Gorgeous. Gorgeous. I love that refrigerator idea!
Can we talk about how she manages to do ALL this eveb during a pandemic that too CONSISTENTLY
Love everything you did to the kitchen my favorite thing about it was the paint color it makes it look brand new.But loved it all well done
Despite the time difference always ready for an Alexandra make over. Love from Kenya 🇰🇪

Love this design! The green paint color is beautiful. You made this kitchen look open and airy, yet it’s the same size as before.
You need a lighting collection with Mitzi in the future.
I love how this looks!
It's my favorite kitchen colour combination, I was surprised to see my dream kitchen colour combination ❤️ amazing work done
I love so much how it looks this kitchen that I saw the video again. Kisses from Spain 🇪🇸
You didn’t sand the cabinets right? Is this primer meant to go on un-sanded surfaces? Super curious because I hate the sanding process 😩
No, it's supposed to be sanded. That's part of why it looks so streaky.
I liked the original tiled backsplash with the new cabinet color and lighter countertop.
Yeah I love saturday mornings. Clicked on so fast
I liked the colorful tiles better
Ok, so this is probably the first time I'm really kinda disappointed in one of her makeovers. This just proves that you really have to prepare and have the proper amount of time for something like this. You can see the rectangles of tiles she cut out, up close the cabinets were still a bit streaky. There were so many things she didn't do because there wasn't time. I love the vision, I just don't think it came out 100% 😕
There was an obvious line down the middle of the fridge too, where the two stickers met. I get the impression this was a very rushed job. Saying that, I liked the vision, especially the cupboard paint colour.
Weird thing with those stick on tiles is up close they looked fine..but the wide of to the side shot you could definately see the seam
The camera tends to pick up flaws the naked eye won't see in person.
agreed. great ideas, but not so great execution.
She didn't degrease cabinets or lightly sand it before primer and painting. Prep work important.
How good the towel matches with the drawer knobs!
9:58 made me mad seeing that gorgeous vintage tile about to be covered up with overused peel and stick....😳😤😒 But the rest of the makeover turned out beautifully! Love the cabinet color combo with gold 💟
That green is simply beautiful and the whole kitchen turned out gorgeous!!!!! Alexandra, as Tina would say "you're simply the best"!!! Peace and Love✌️💚 from 🌅 Greece🇬🇷⛱️
