Well to start. A 1990 Volkswagen Corrado was the first car I bought at the age of 16 to learn how to drive a stick on. I only owned it for a year or two. And now 7 years later I contacted the kid I sold it to and bought it back and now own it again!!!!
Of course I love this car and I'll never sell mine unless I get another one 1st!!! Good video with lots of info.
@@DakotahNaugle..... That's AWESOME!!! I seen a Corrado when i was a bag boy at Kroger when i was 16 and immediately fell in love with them. 11 years after that i bought one and I've never let her go
I think the VR6 is to the corrado what the busso V6 is to the Milano. A sound so sweet you put up with the rest of the bullshit
Always wanted a fat boy body kit G60. Could you guys do a special edition of this mod??
Alex: “so you want a VW corrado”

Best looking car ever, 15 years later I am still kicking myself for passing on a VR6 with a warped head for 3K$.
Damn!! 😔
3k 15 years ago was a lot of money don’t feel bad. That’s like paying 8k today for a broken car
I'm 18 and the corrado was my first car, my dad and I found a broken down one and restored it as a father son project. She's is so much fun to drive. Still one of the best handling cars I've ever driven. And that exhaust note is just 🤤
Father son project. I guess that would make sense, if being redundant. 🤣😂👏🏽
Hey my first car too, owned it 11 years and two engines! I can't agree with you on the handling part, it understeered like a pig, but that engine note is just incredible.
How much you want? ill trade my dad's 1984 Mustang GT 5.0
Cool story but if you think that has the best handling then you haven't driven many cars.
@@daveperryLXXVII let the kid live. He's 18 dude

I had a 93 VR6 in my 20s. It was always broken, was expensive to insure, parts were expensive and it rode rougher than a skateboard. Worst of all, girls didnt even know what it was.
But I felt like MFing James Bond behind the wheel of that car. Totally worth it.
Sounds just like mine, broken expensive parts and all. But it was such a fun car to drive!
I bought a lightly used 93 Corrado SLC at the end of 1993, and it was my daily driver for over 9 years. The problems I had were a failed clutch(under warranty), a stuck sunroof, and a bad window regulator. That being said, of the 2 VWs, 2 Audis, and one Subaru I've owned, it's my all-time favorite
a Video about a VR6 Car and not even a single time the Sentence " Turbo it" dropped... VR6 is basicly Bulletproof til 500HP on stock internals. In Germany its the Counterpart of the LS engine, its Dirt Cheap , Reliable and can Handle Power easy.
Source?
@@Jack-do3vm just google for 2.8/2.9 12valve VR6 there are numerous forumsposts who tell about the Nice Turbo Qualities of this engine.

I owned a 1992 VW Corrado (VR6) for four years. It was a fantastic car to drive. Loads of fun.
I will build another Rado some day. This video brought back a lot of memories. Great video guys.
I still have a pair of French E-codes, French fogs, 2.9L intake and throttle body, and a few other random items bubble wrapped and waiting for the day. I'm with you I miss mine...Yes I'm in the states 2.9 was a big thing.
I miss mine as well. My number 1 to build again if I ever get the chance. In the US they are so rare. I was hit head on a week after a buddy was giving me crap for driving it in the winter. ..
Day 4 or 5 of asking for "so you want a Honda CRX"
So underrated! Epic machine (taking about the 2.9 VR6 190hp EuroSpec)
I’ve had 3 corrados, I need one more!
I got you beat, my dad and I have 4!
My friends cousins nephews barber has like 37. Top that

@@theblackmambaplague lol, you seriously couldn’t detect the facetious sarcasm? It was a merely a notion To ridicule the sanctimony in such a redundant, ridiculous statement. Your follow up response... is absolutely textbook. 🤣😂🤣😂👏🏽🤮
Zil Co hmmm, your sarcasm is trash. It’s not dark, funny, or interesting in any way, shape, or form.......I was asking because I’ve seen graveyards full of dismantled corrados, potential waste, but I guess you were being “sarcastic”.
I have a vr6 corrado in my driveway, right now!:)
This is a long post, but if you’re new to the G60 it might be worth it to read this. The biggest thing worthy of a mention about the Corrado G60, was that most G60 owners never serviced the G-Ladder as the manufacturer recommended. The side seals were supposed to be replaced every 60,000 miles, the internal timing belt for the G-Ladder displacer and eccentric shaft is supposed to be replaced at 30,000 miles. 95% of the problems with the G-Ladder had more to do with the actual owners rather than the cars themselves. Those who do their services as they were supposed to be done, would probably never experience a supercharger failure. Those who didn’t, blew them up and blamed VW. That said the most common things I’ve seen lead to failure are:
Failed secondary displacer drive belts (which can damage the displacer and the case)
Incorrectly installed side seals (which can damage the displacer)
Improper modification (porting the housing and displacer to the point where the displacer cracks or becomes damaged due to resonance at high rpm)
Cage Bearing failure (from infrequent oil changes)
Over speeding (This can be caused when using both the larger spec displacer eccentric shaft and the smaller pulley to produce more boost.)
Foreign object damage (the Supercharger swallows something and the magnesium displacer and Aluminium supercharger Cade become damaged as a result.
For those who didn’t feel like servicing their superchargers every 30,000 miles or two years, the best bet is to remove the G-Ladder altogether, and convert to a traditional roots style blower like an Eaton M45 or M62 or BBM Motorsports offers a nice Twin Screw Supercharger, that just flat out screams. I like the G-Ladder. I’ve owned 3 Corrado G60’s and never had a supercharger failure, but I’d be lying if I told you that the G60 was a low maintenance item. The key to keeping them alive is proactive routine supercharger maintenance at 30k and 60k intervals which really requires the supercharger to be removed, dismantled, inspected, the appropriate parts replaced and reassembled. I also recommend using a BBM Motorsports rebuild kit with the wide secondary displacer drive belt-
Don't want to be a dickhead but it's G-Lader. With one D. I owned a corrado G60 and a Golf Rallye G60 in the late nineties. Great cars.
You’re good, I’m certainly not the king of any spelling bees. My auto fill has it spelled with Two D’s so I misspelled it some time in the past and my phone remembers it.

I am an assistant general manager at Culver’s. And my first car I bought when I was 15 was a 1991 g60 corrado. And I miss it so much. I’m in the market for a VR6 soon. Going to make it a project build for my son. But he probably won’t get it because I love it so much. “Fuck off here’s a civic”
This or that: build a car completely from scratch or buy a fully assembled kit car
💯💯very interesting topiv
It doesn't look so bad its actually pretty nice
Nah they look so much better in person mate 😍
Seen a one VR6 Corrado in 6 years on the the Highway in 2023 in a World of SUV's, That car made my Day
I had 1991 vw corrado for 11 years I fucking loved it and I fucking missing it
I have a 1987 16V scirocco with 140,000 original miles on it. My dad gave it to me. My wife wants it gone but the Rocco holds a special place in my heart !
Let's be real - most of us would love to own a Corrado. But, then you see the reliability, parts expense, rust, and more....
The Corrado idea goes out the door real quick :(
Did you know it has an automated wing?
The one on mine still works 😁
About the g60, it only had 1 part 'wobbeling' around, and 2 static outer halves.
Its little brother, the G40 was used in the Polo already, with good succes. So they scaled it up for the bigger 1.8l engine. Making it more maintenance intensive.
This car was one that was on the look list for my mk4 GTD motor to go into. Ended up with a mk2 GTi.
The lord has heard me I’ve been waiting for this one
I miss my corrado, its far the best car ive had, only problem these cars always had problems specially with the g60
My dad has vr6 corrado behind his workshop hasn’t used it in years only just Put a cover on it he said I could have it one day honestly can’t wait
You’re very lucky😂
My cousin had a G60 back in the day with a stage 3 supercharger kit. That thing use to ball out. Beat a 2005 Camaro SS (345hp) top end to 120 by like 3-4 cars. It was a blast to drive
dayuum the Corrado, The Car u Want becouse the Golf was too lame.
Alex: If your over 25
Random lady in an ad: Are you over 25?
Wtf is happening???
Most Corrados are approx 30 years old. Add 15-20 years to that. And the Corrado entusiasts are 45-50 years old.
I need a Corrado.

That vr6 can be a world beater if you are willing to put in the time and have the patience to deal with it
1:56 Sent me all the way back to my childhood 😆 love these Corrados, I rarely ever see these!!
My 1994 2.9 Corrado still drives wonderfully! But you mentioned 178hp... I think it has 190hp, am I wrong? Not a big difference in the end...
And it sounds great.
Us Market mostly 178hp Vr6
And G60 160hp
Eu had
190hp vr6
G60 160hp
1.8l 16v 136hp
2.0l 16v 136hp
2.0l 8v 115hp
I love the look of the Corrado as long as they are lowered or bagged.
Corrado remains to this date (2024) a stunning car.
If you appreciate preserving neat cars, get a Corrado VR6. If you want to be a typical stance boi VW owner get a Golf.
I see them do it just as much as eachother. VW owners are stance bois by nature
First car you drive in the first Forza Horizon.... My 12 year old self was so bamboozled when i saw a volkswagon with a pop up spoiler😬😬😬
My dad won (yes WON) a vr6 Corrado in 1992. He was 21 when he got it and I still remember him bringing me to school in first grade in 2006 it. It sadly got pushed into a wall in 2009 by a semi. It was parked so no one was harmed but damn that could have been mine one day.
I think the VR6 Corrado has the best front end of all modern Dubs.
My buddy had a G60 and then a VR6, when they ran they were fun cars. Problem was they always broke, always, everything was constantly failing. They are the reasons I won't work on Volkswagens any more, and I own two BMWs and a Ducati, so that's saying something.
I’m 16 and was looking for a first car, I looked at corrados but couldn’t find a good one near me, I ended up buying a 94 bronco
i have a 1990 vr6 swap corrado and i love it its soooo fun to drive and when u drive it u get a thumps up for sure
I have never driven one but I’m pretty sure I want one! I keep seeing G60 mostly.
Great video although I teared up when you said the VR6 should be the one to buy. We have a 1990 G60 that is a head turner everywhere we take it. Lucky enough to have purchased it before the price spiked. Previous owner had rebuilt engine and supercharger so felt confident it would bring us joy before any major work needed to be done. It is more tun to drive than our 2017 Boxster S.
excuse you alex but I own a vw corrado and has owned it since 1995 and there is no problem what so ever with the spoiler till date
You should do a video on mk4 gti vs mk4 gli
And another car that’s gonna go up in price .....
These vr6’s have been going up for years tbh, at least in the northeast
They already are...been the case a while now...
I hope so.... lol
Not the g60's
Really hope they go up in value.
Lol, youtube subtitles wrote volks "karate" instead of corrado XD

I'm 18 and I own 2 mk3 jettas (98 and 96) but by the time I'm 25 I dream to own a Corrado 😎
I wanted these so bad when I was young, especially after my uncle showed me his Scirocco. Damn I miss this 90s
One of the most fun cars I ever owned 🤩 So much fun!
I owned a shaved White 2.0L 16v. Loved that car so much but had so sell it because i lost my job. They are so much fun, like gocarts
Damn I just found a corrado at a shop that gets used cars and fixes them up to sell next to my work today and this video showed up YESTERDAY. dumb luck?? Gonna ask more info on the car tomorrow and if it’s being sold to anyone
Thanks for including my car in the video! It's good to see these cars get the recognition they deserve 👍
Im daily driving a 92 VR6, best car ever!!
I bought a new burgundy Corrado back in 1992. I had previously had 83 and 88 GTIs and got the 92 Corrado instead of a 92 GTI because of the VR6. I still have it even though I rarely drive it. After 28 years it is hard to part with it. Corrados never sold well because they were overpriced.
If you were to send that to a cosworth shop, gold
FH1...red Colorado...bass arena...
Ive seen Corrados swapped with 07ks, 24vs, 3.2s, 3.6. People mod the fuck out of these cars lol.
Suddenly I want a corrado again
I would love a corrado until I drive it in this pothole infested state that I unfortunately live in and bend a rim or beach it on a speed bump and get laughed at by all the kids in the school bus stuck behind me.
Had a 1990 G 60 what a love-hate relationship that was.
Buddy, Garrett(G60) supercharger is USA, not German made. Just sayin'.
Vw mk1 golf and mk1 cabriolet plees. I have mk1 cabriolet I restouren
Love my vr6 rado
Sigh, the Corrado was never a Scirocco replacement they were intended to be produced side by side as the Corrado was significantly more expensive. It didn't sell many due to it being expensive for the time coupled with the global stock market crash of 1987 and the subsequent global recession. Standard equipment aside from the first year of production was very high specification for the era including power steering, central locking, electric tilt and slide sunroof (these breakdown a lot more than the spoilers) with most markets also getting electric windows. G60s had a high failure rate due to smaller pulleys being fitted for increased performance and issues surrounding oil supply and return on top of the cutting edge use of CNC milling during production. The US also got the standard VR unit at 2.8L unlike the Euro models with the 2.9L which produces 192bhp and 186lb ft.
I've owned 2 Corrado VR6's in my time... I loved them both but they pissed me off in equal measures so they had to go. If the right one came along (not many around within the UK market) I'd definitely be interested in a 3rd!
Same here. Though only my first pissed me off. The second was a gem. I sold it in mid 2009 because I traveled for a couple years. Simultaneous feelings of deep regret and totally worth it are with me still a decade later. :)
@@therealchickentender My original one was an R32 conversation, amazing vehicle but had so many annoying little issues, I just got pissed off with it. Second one was a standard VR6 which I found underwhelming. I sold it to a friend who I believe still owns it.
1:26 what freaking burnout is that the rear tire is making more smoke
Synchro?
I have a 1991 VW Corrado that I have owned since 1994 & my factory original G60 that is modded with the Neuspeed HP kit amongst other bolt-ons that bumped the boost up to about 15 to 16 psi gave me 140,000+ reliable miles until I noticed a small crack on the Displacer at which time I stopped driving it to avoid it grenading, got it serviced with a new displacer, but the supercharger was still working & putting out about 12 to 13 psi at the time I stopped driving it. BTW, my rear wing still works perfectly, but I will admit my sunroof is starting to do funky things. It's simple, take care of the car, service it regularly & you shouldn't have any issues aside from the normal wear/tear items & I constantly take my cars on spirited drives, I don't baby them at all. I will say this: I love this car more than all the modern VW's that I currently have in my stable, can't wait to get it back on the road.
i wanted one of these when i was in HS. i used to see a yellow VR6 Corrado on my friend's block, but they were rare to see back then
