Love the cantilever design. I have a similar layout except I'll probably connect mine to the house. Do you have much warping with the 4x4? If you had to do it over would you use 6x6?
Only one of the 4x4s warped on us. Not too bad and doesn’t affect anything. Same can happen with 6x6s. But they’re much heavier. There’s no way we could have attached the cantilevered boards on ladders if they were 6x6.
Love this video. Thanks for sharing. I just recently heard of toja grids. I’ve been doing a lot of research about it and found your video. I want to get a hot tub and a dry sauna and have a shelter or a structure like yours over them. I’m wanting to have some sort of canvas at the top like yours but easily remove it or pull it back when I want to see the stars at night. Do you know if they have anything like that?
Check out this one that covers a hot tub: ua-cam.com/video/QH6yUi5v5IU/v-deo.html I don’t think TOJA makes temporary shades like that. But I’m sure you can find them online.
@@handydadtv I love your design and think it’s the answer for shade by my pool. I live where there are hurricanes though. I wonder whether 4x4 is strong enough but also whether 6x6 is too heavy for the cantilever. I plan to go to city hall to see whether there are any applicable regulations.
We are getting ready to build our toja grid this summer once the hot tub is on its way. Good vlog!! Thanks for the ideas
Thanks. If you haven’t bought yet, please use my link handydad.tv/shoptoja
I all ways cut studs you are smart to make stuff. It is just my habit.
Super cool building
Thanks 😊
Interesting choice in setup. Thanks for the video!
This pergola is such a great addition to the pool area! There was zero shade before. Glad we cantilevered it as well because it faces south.

Great video, Not worried about the post heaving during winter at only 2 feet hole depth? Thought 36" was needed for frost line in NJ
Yes true for buildings. Not sure if it applies to something like this. Either way, movement shouldn’t cause any harm.

Amazing video!
Thanks so much 😊
Thank you for another informative video Chris! Will you be making any lawn care videos? 🤗
Coincidentally, yes. I just got a new mower to review. Stay tuned!
@@handydadtv 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Awesome!
Price as of the date of recording is appreciated, even if it changes and even if the prices differs by setup. It gives an idea...
Thanks
How is it holding up
Awesome! Just opened the pool and put the shades back on this weekend.
Did you use 4x4 lumber?
Yes we used pressure treated 4x4s. They also have kits for 6x6 as well.

@dianedavey3330 We get hurricanes in NJ too. I’d just take down the sail shades if I knew a hurricane was on the way.
