I've been watching this video for years. This one has had a huge impact on my picking technique. Andy has a very subtle and nuanced picking hand/technique. I have learned a lot by watching him play.
his technique is the absolute best when it comes to perfect shredding *flawless* and 2nd, he has soul in his playing - listen to "the wind that shakes the heart", "lost without you", 'bella's song" and "what lies beneath". 3rd, to those who says that his fast ripping solos has no soul, listen to how he phrases within those fast shredding. not only is his shred is unbelievably clean and articulate, but he also synchronizes it with melodies and harmonies.though I'm a metal head, I also don't like meaningless fast shred without proper soul foundation . Anyone can play fast if he puts his heart in it but to create a music with it is something that takes more than just practice from textbook which Andy has excel it.
Yogen Grg So true dude. I can pick faster than Andy (I've most definitely got a talent for tremolo on the right hand, but my left hand will never catch up to that pace) but there is no way in hell i could ever keep up with him on a song, or improv. I'm no great guitarist, but I'm living proof that speed doesn't make a good guitarist. Andy has composure at an extreme pace, even MAB would pale at andys alternate picking.
kevin S Chris Broderick always sticks out as a shredder with no feeling. Listen to any solo he's done, they are all incredibley hard to play but they sound like shit.
It doesn't even have to be Chris Broderick (even though he's a great example). Just listen to any of Zakk Wylde's newer stuff, particularly the "solo" he played for EMGTV. It's just super fast with no feeling.
People this is metal it has it's own type of soul, it is agrresive ,fast and heavy but that is a style that is not mean't for everybody and in my opinion andy james is one of the best players to ever describe it
Quite an unsual feeling on this one, compared to other James songs. You can absolutely tell Andys signature style of playing and sometimes his characteristic licks break through the air. But I miss the typical down-to-earth way of mixing shred and emotional playing that Andy does so incredibly well.
I kinda get what deathbringer94 is saying, what i think Andy is doing his music is kinda drawing more form his learning sources, i hear a lot more of old metal in his new stuff, at least in general. I do hope goes back to doing his own stuff, though this still rocks.
Ocyrhys Veils Notice I said "custom" buddy. Price is never right for any branded custom guitar as you can have it made by any skilled "nameless" maker, and it will be just as good. But if you're talking about regular LTDs and ESPs, the quality is definitely not the same (I owned both).
Sniperkitten971 I agreed. But LTD's are not bad guitars. I gifted a KH-202 to my best friend and I was really quite surprised of the level of finition. At first, I was a little affraid of the quality of the Floyd Rose but in fact, it's quite reliable. My buddy tuned it in B standard, that work fine.
Andy James is the Master ...This piece is dark and bluesy awesome ..Andy is the most melodic Shredder out there and the best...what a tone fuck..Andy always inspires me man...
I love Andy and far be it from me, a non-guitar player to criticize, but when I get the idea of Hell's anything I want those scary dark minor chords. That being said this is still bad ass and Andy James forever. 🤘
Andy is amazing at progressive rock guitar. Great player in that style. Of course, the guitar master Mr. Steve Morse is a savant in at least 5 styles, granting him my vote for best overall, hands down. Hard to argue that, I think, for any true guitar aficionado. I would love to see Any show his talent in other styles, (acoustic, flat picking, Celtic, banjo style, etc.). My opinion in no way negates the fact that Andy James is a premier picker. I love it! Tear it up Andy!
My new favorite AJ track. Probably the most varied in terms of mixing up his scales and patterns. It's got some phrygian, harmonic minor, pentatonic, all the goods. Great composition overall. And flawless technique as always. Cleanest shredder I've ever heard. Anybody know what the rack unit is that he's using?
Do you guys know if this is on spotify or something I've been trying to find this track to listen to daily🤤🤤🤤🔥🔥🔥🔥 Andy is a beast!!!!! Listen to this every morning walking up😎😝🤘🤙🤟
Flawless techique, jaw dropping! And finally, after so many times I've listened to thos song I found a fuck up! There should be at least a few in songs like this, but Andy is a god, and he's trying to msk it. A SECOND AFTER 4:19
He seems like he only cares about playing super fast, but at least he sounds good doing it. Some people sound really bad at that, but he does a good job at making a tune that varies slow melody and fast chaos. And the occasional fast melody 👍
Oh, so some of you who judges Andy you are obviously guitar players, you know maybe 10% Andy's playing knowledge's approximately and tell his playing has no soul..hahah! you know nothing, okay? :D
One of the greastest alive in my opinion! Amazing phrases throughout. Can anyone tell me what the name of the accessory is that he has around his guitar neck to dampen the string noise??! I've seen these in many videos and can't seem to figure it out
-One of the best metal shredders, I wouldn't go further than that. -You can probably buy something made specifically for a guitar at any retail outlet (guitar center, ect.), but I wouldn't bother; use a wristband, hair tie, sock, bandana, or anything soft that will absorb the vibration of the strings.
One EMG top artist traded off most of his menace during 00's (if you know what i mean). Now the other guy starts to sound freaking aggressive! That song actually possesses some mid-era Loomis feel.
hard to find word to describe how good Andy is...
There is a word.... D A M N !!!
A fucking beast machine !
"...!!!"
A Machine !
This guy makes metal sound godly...

Yogen Grg Just curious, what artists play "meaningless fast shredding without proper soul foundation"
kevin S Chris Broderick always sticks out as a shredder with no feeling. Listen to any solo he's done, they are all incredibley hard to play but they sound like shit.
bob silliger Thanks bro, I'll check it out...
It doesn't even have to be Chris Broderick (even though he's a great example). Just listen to any of Zakk Wylde's newer stuff, particularly the "solo" he played for EMGTV. It's just super fast with no feeling.
I don't always get my face melted off but when I do... I watch @EMGpickupsTV.
People this is metal it has it's own type of soul, it is agrresive ,fast and heavy but that is a style that is not mean't for everybody and in my opinion andy james is one of the best players to ever describe it
Brilliant shredding at its finest this guy is so on top of his game its just mind blowing what a master of the instrument!!! Epic!!!
It's always good to see new Andy James EMGtv videos. Mindblowing player!
He's gonna be a legend!! Truly brilliant performance by Andy!! Mind blowing!!!
Andy is out of this world on the shredometer. No human word could be used to describe his speed, accuracy and consistency. It is truly incredible!
Strongly believe this guy is the best on earth
In the shred metal style, maybe.
very unique style! he's amazing, I wish my fingers would work that way
How in hell's name does this guy keeps getting better???
Practice, practice, practice!
The first break, oh my god. The phrasing is phenomenal !!!!
one of the best in my time, he's mesmorizing

I really like this track it shows AJ breaking out more trad shredding, while still keeping his style in place. Its a beast of a tune.
You tell me dude. You seem confused.
I kinda get what deathbringer94 is saying, what i think Andy is doing his music is kinda drawing more form his learning sources, i hear a lot more of old metal in his new stuff, at least in general. I do hope goes back to doing his own stuff, though this still rocks.
Andy is AMAZING!! The string skipping part on the intro reminded me of "Universal Mind" from Liquid Tension Experiment. Good stuff!
This intro blow my mind !!
This is definitely my favorite song by him
What's the name of this song???
Congratularions , awesome playing , with rithms beautifull taste, thanks. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Ok when is the 7-string version of his signature coming out!? I need it and I need it NOW.
Andy James!!!...Badass heavyrock/Metal shred maestro!!!yeah!!!
WE LOVE YOU ANDY!!!
I freakin' love the epic tone of this tune :3
I like the fact, that he's rocking an LTD as opposed to a ESP.
It's a custom LTD. Quality wise it's the same as an ESP one !
Sniperkitten971 but the price is right for an LTD not ESP :)

It's GruvGear FretWrap.
He’s just about the best…. He’s right there with Batio
