Brant Bjork plays single coils all the time. Played Strats and has been playing a Danelectro with Lipsticks for a while now. I much prefer my Les Paul for darker tones, but I do get great tone out of my telecaster as well. If you get a chance, try out a Fender Player Plus Tele with the noiseless pickups. I think you would be pleasantly surprised with how versatile that guitar is.
A tele with a humbucker neck + single coil bridge would do the trick or for a les Paul have a split coil so that you'll have an option to do single coils while humbuckers are installed
"If you have single coils, you can't do it" tell that to Tony Iommi who uses p90s. Also, turning the treble all the way down is going to sound like shit unless you compensate for the high end somehow.
Earthless uses a strat. You can't define Stoner like this. Stoner is basically a not-narrow-minded metal; you're free to experiment how you want. It is music made out of stoned people ffs.
