I'm not gonna lie, when I first got into the gym 5 years ago, it was cuz my ex called me chubby and she broke up with me so I wanted to make her jealous. It wasn't till I saw a comment on Instagram where someone had the same story as me and someone replied that "using revenge as motivation will only take you so far in the gym". After I saw that; I noticed that I didn't even think about the break up or her calling me chubby and just realized that I enjoy keeping myself in shape. Revenge gets old and tiring and I have no clue how some of these gym bros keep it in their heads for years. If you go to the gym for self improvement and leave the gym as the same person wallowing in negativity; you haven't improved at all.

I started doing boxing training when I was 19, I did it because I wanted to learn how to fight and felt weaker than most of the dudes I went to school with. Boxing has made me into a completely different person than who I was in my early teenage years because I was out of shape and unathletic and I’m so glad that I took up boxing because it’s benefitted me a lot and I just love it very much.

Yet, you are challenging those opinions and asking for these misguided young men -that I qualified as, once, back when the pipeline was a different kind of content- to really think about what it is they are saying, and the harmful (to themselves and others) lifestyle they are pursuing. I often debate making videos about these sorts of things, but I usually give up because I sort of *am* that stereotype of a leftist guy who is scrawny and shit. It's sad that genuinely good/chill hobbies like working out, gaming, anime, memes and history (to name a few, there may be more) have been infected by alt-right ideologies, and really hateful and dangerous ones. It all starts with a "girls lame and boys quirky" meme, and if that person doesn't grow up mentally off 14 years old, it ends up with a borderline neo-nazi by when they're 20-something. The result is a bunch of people use the angry NYC gay chant as proof that they’re really coming for kiddos. This whole situation is being turned into a colossal wedge issue so that both parties get easy political and financial support. I do personally believe that more queer media will lead to less queer teens taste testing bleach so I’m biased against people accusing said queer media of being there to make kids easier to fuck. I am also positive that parents have allowed their kids into truly abhorrent environments where there are drag shows or some other kind of queer performance. Great and pretty rare video about this topic on this platform (not so much the self improvement itself but the fitness space points). As a fellow lefty, the "self improvement to alt right pipeline" topic was something I believe didn't believe in all that much or at least didn't really pay attention before. I mean what could be so bad about fitness and self improvement, right? But having got into fitness in the past year or so I've definitely noticed these things you talk about. So much of self improvement in these spaces pertains to wanting to "own" the haters and doubters. And I'll be the first to admit that I got into fitness due to self confidence issues being overweight most of my life and hoping that my crush would like me eventually. There are many channels that spread this mindset of reject weakness, embrace "..." which is a toxic mindset to have. People say that this supposed pipeline doesn't really exist but having watched so many of those videos even as a lefty, I had a period of several months where I was heading down that path. Looking back I'm pretty ashamed of the stuff I thought about lol. Some of the shit "motivational" channels spread to viewers (looking at you Balkan Gains, who I unfortunately watched for a bit) is horrible. Actual brain rot. Hating on LGBTQ community and taking videos out of context like you mentioned, "dunking" on women and "Karens", and hating fat people are common topics in most of these channels. I'm not sure how I didn't really notice myself slipping lol. Having been overweight a majority of my life you'd think that I'd have more empathy for these people. Now I'm imagining young people that get into fitness these days and start watching these videos and horrible, toxic male "role" models like Andrew Tate. This will most definitely push them more right. It can be really hard to escape that mindset tbh. There was a point in time where I was looking at fat people for motivation and thinking that they had no willpower and looked down on them. I'm glad I watched one of Jeff Nippard's videos (who I think is one of the very few big left leaning creators on this platform) on "is obesity a choice" which brought me back to reality and reminded me of my own experiences. I wish people didn't make self improvement something so toxic like some of these channels do. I think self improvement is great - striving to be the best you can be is something admirable imo. But when it treads into hating on other people and marginalized groups... man how disappointing. I wish we could all be a little more empathetic towards our fellow people. It's saddening that one of my friends (now ex friend, he became way too toxic in the past 2 years) went down this path. My summary on this is that they are just being too much of a nuisance and it just feels like they want to showcase their personal issues,i have seen and met people who are gay and they were nice human beings then there's the woke side of this which i feel is too much,and not to mention they are such snowflakes they don't want a convo or sharing of thoughts they get "Offended" each and every one of them.

This inspired me to start self-improving and get into the sigma grindset.
Great and pretty rare video about this topic on this platform (not so much the self improvement itself but the fitness space points). As a fellow lefty, the "self improvement to alt right pipeline" topic was something I believe didn't believe in all that much or at least didn't really pay attention before. I mean what could be so bad about fitness and self improvement, right? But having got into fitness in the past year or so I've definitely noticed these things you talk about. So much of self improvement in these spaces pertains to wanting to "own" the haters and doubters. And I'll be the first to admit that I got into fitness due to self confidence issues being overweight most of my life and hoping that my crush would like me eventually. There are many channels that spread this mindset of reject weakness, embrace "..." which is a toxic mindset to have. People say that this supposed pipeline doesn't really exist but having watched so many of those videos even as a lefty, I had a period of several months where I was heading down that path. Looking back I'm pretty ashamed of the stuff I thought about lol. Some of the shit "motivational" channels spread to viewers (looking at you Balkan Gains, who I unfortunately watched for a bit) is horrible. Actual brain rot. Hating on LGBTQ community and taking videos out of context like you mentioned, "dunking" on women and "Karens", and hating fat people are common topics in most of these channels.
I'm not sure how I didn't really notice myself slipping lol. Having been overweight a majority of my life you'd think that I'd have more empathy for these people. Now I'm imagining young people that get into fitness these days and start watching these videos and horrible, toxic male "role" models like Andrew Tate. This will most definitely push them more right. It can be really hard to escape that mindset tbh. There was a point in time where I was looking at fat people for motivation and thinking that they had no willpower and looked down on them. I'm glad I watched one of Jeff Nippard's videos (who I think is one of the very few big left leaning creators on this platform) on "is obesity a choice" which brought me back to reality and reminded me of my own experiences. I wish people didn't make self improvement something so toxic like some of these channels do. I think self improvement is great - striving to be the best you can be is something admirable imo. But when it treads into hating on other people and marginalized groups... man how disappointing. I wish we could all be a little more empathetic towards our fellow people. It's saddening that one of my friends (now ex friend, he became way too toxic in the past 2 years) went down this path. He was already a bit weird in regards to his relationship with women but he's a full blown incel now.
