- The left-leaning anti-fascist movement-or Antifa-has been around for decades, popping up in North America and Europe in response to rising white nationalist or fascist sentiments. Now, Antifa has made a resurgence in the US, where members clad in masks and nondescript black clothing physically confront groups of white supremacists and neo-Nazis who've started organizing in cities around the country.
Since the 2016 presidential election, Antifa has become a staple at alt-right and Trump-related rallies that often result in violence. VICE met up with a few Antifa activists in Philadelphia who engage in “Black Bloc” actions to find out more about their ideology, tactics, and individual reasons for participating in a high-risk form of activism.

Enough is enough. Ahmaud Arbery was a black man shot dead while he was jogging. Antifa is the answer because countless peaceful protests lead to nowhere. Radical change for the good is better than radical groups supporting divisive, gun-wielding, largely low educated extremists. Forget Iraq and Iran, America hasn't even dealt with their homegrown extremists at their doorstep.

The sad reality is that it isn’t so much that way in colleges, where (currently) young people are supposed to have the time of their lives.
I’m right in the middle, the people in the far on both sides need their own country I swear, they both make it hard to live in the USA. Both sides are so brainwashed and don’t have an opinion of their own. They are actually followers. You know it’s kinda funny they said they aren’t about violence but you always see them laying a hand on someone…. Violence usually isn’t the solution, but at least be honest that you are for violence and stop trying to make yourself feel better, own up to what you believe in and stand for. 🤷♀️

It may depend on if you agree with their idoelogy. If I use an equal standard, it was actually quite poor: didn't ask them obvious questions; got some facts wrong; didn't ask them challenging questions either. The Right in politics renounces their crazies (the Manipulative Media doesn't seem to report that). We on the Left are endorsing them. Is it any wonder Trump is winning? I'm not American, I'm Australian (by immigration), but that's what I see. Trump has exposed the hatred and racist double standards of my own group. It's useless to quote that and put it outside of their context, they have well explained how they are looking at the situation.
There are many people, greeks philosopher, painter, writter, and they all were against war but if the painting and the music and the philosophal thing have been able to be that evolved, that peaceful and now they are against all form of violence it was only because at one certain point their countries were dominant and heavyli armed. Their peaceful will have seen the day "because of wars" / "thanks to wars".
That is not a nonsense, if someone try to lead and grow by being aggressive, violent, making people around being scary, and if the government do nothing against them then the only possible option might be the violence, may you hate it or love it, it might be the only possible option to stop that.
So yes, you can be violent and sometimes you could even NEED to be violent in order to live in peace and that, even if you hate violence.

This is how all black bloc groups are - they are the folks who come in to wreck stuff and start riots. They will make peaceful protest violent - no political ties at all they just want to cause chaos. This documentary did very poorly in showing what they actually are because this one small group co-opted it. Often times they are agent provocateurs hired by police - they were caught out in a G8 summit protest once - one of them was an on duty officer to start riots because a riot will turn the attention away from what the protest was about and the news will then focus on the riot.
You can be ideologically opposed to it, but to deny that violence and property damage can bring about change is to ignore history

I think you’ve misunderstood my point. What I am pointing out are the double standards and behaviours of these extremist groups, as stated in my original comment. In Quebec at the summit (early 2000') the black block was notorious for being infiltrated by the police and pushed violent behaviour.. one undercover cop got pulled out of their rally cos he was trying to entice citizens to pick up rocks and throw them at the police brigade, which almost provoked the police to retaliate against families and elders just wanting more transparency.. I'm glad we pulled that undercover (agent provocateur) out and sent him back behind their gate before he got abused seriously.. I also hope that the black block understood how they got duped that time and are taking measures to get rid of police within their organisation.

That doesn't even mention the fact that they're diametrically opposed to free speech, which is terrible and reprehensible on its own. Once you get your head out of your ass and stop calling everyone you disagree with a nazi so you feel ok about punching them; Take a look at this objectively and you'll see there's a whole lot wrong with it. Just to clarify, anyone on the other side using violence is just as bad. But antics is worse because they have such a cunty and smug attitude about it, it pisses me off, they show no remorse for being terrible people. Truly slimy and disgusting.
