      Anteater98 he always makes them minimum 10 mins long and even when there's nothing left in the video to say he would just wait till 10:01 😂 just search some of his videos where he has just put an ending 2 mins long to reach the 10 min mark... Now it's his mark to do that...😁

      ScottHermanFitness Hey Scott, awesome video. For metabolic stress I recall a study that talked about how longer rest periods 3 mins had shown greater muscle growth and strength gains from the typical 60-90 second rest period. Just wondering about your thoughts on this. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/26605807/

    Agree 200%. You have described how I have been training the last 6 years and I have seen more results than the previous 28 years training in typical Bodybuilding “bro” style. This combined with a strict nutritious meal plan has been very successful for me. It also drastically reduces the chance of injury (barring making stupid ego lifts occasionally) as you don’t need as much weight to stimulate growth and results.

    • @ScottHermanFitness
      @ScottHermanFitness  6 років тому

      Right on John! It's important for people to know that in order to gain muscle, the amount of weight you lift is important, but not THE most important factor. Got to have that diet dialled in too!

    what you talked about is the first thing my private instructor told me about and i immediately saw a improvement on what i had been doing before i really is great to see a video fully explaining it for people that do not have a instructor or friends that know it already.
    what my instructors gets me to do to work all 3 that works really well i feel is i do say a set of 8 curls at 15kg which is my max. then as soon as i have done with set 1 i do 12 sit ups then have a 30 second break while i have a drink and stretch the muscles. this is then repeated 2 more times for a set of 3 then i move on and do the same with chest or what ever muscle with a in between exercise to compliment it.

    Heya Scott. Remember a while back you talked about slow twitch and fast twitch muscle fibers and the training method required for them individually? Well, I’ve learned about myself that my gains, physique and strength all go up when I do *MORE* working sets, meaning I’m more towards the slower end. Anyway, keep up the good work and merry christmas.

    It's called "progressive resistance training" for a reason. If your weights are not getting heavier, it's a safe bet your muscles are not growing either. Yates did 1-2 working sets to absolute failure using intensity techniques (forced reps, negatives, rest-pause, partials...you name it) after warm up sets. He mostly did 6-8 reps...slightly more for legs. He hit each muscle group once per week. Coleman did mostly straight sets, but he trained even heavier that Yates. Most powerlifters are pretty darn muscular, they're just not as shredded as bodybuilders on stage. Bodybuilders and powerlifters have a whole lot in common. As for damage, the negative or eccentric portion of a rep causes the most muscle damage and soreness. So...do take full advantage of the lowering portion of each rep. You can hold (static) more weight than you can lift (concentric) and you can lower (eccentric) more weight than you can hold.

    So what's better - to push yourself to the limit on your first set, knowing this would result in 2-3 reps less next set OR stop 2 reps short of failure/bad form but make up for that on your next set?

    Hey Scott.
    I am confused. In your video "5 reasons you're not growing" you said "you go to the gym to stimulate the muscle. Not annihilate it." But in this video you said "The entire point of training is to obliterate the muscle."
    I am not talking shit in any way, i just want to know what you think? should you go out of the gym with NOTHING left to give, or just stimulate?
    (Love your videos)

    • @WIZWARDCODWAW
      @WIZWARDCODWAW 6 років тому +4

      Mathias Foged Pedersen I second this. Perhaps Scott means not complete destruction...but still an intense work out that focuses on the mind body connection. E.g every rep should be controlled and relatively hard. Personally, I think you can make some small progress with good form, good frequency and controlled reps. If you want amazing progress, you need to push yourself every single time, every rep. I think the idea of obliteration is to maximise efficiency in the gym.

    • @ScottHermanFitness
      @ScottHermanFitness  6 років тому +40

      great question.. what I meant was.. each set should be challenging. A lot of people start with less weight than they can handle just so they can "increase" each set. Always lift what you can handle for a max of the rep range. Hope that make sense.
      The goal is to breakdown muscle for regrowth.. you can't do that lifting weights that are "easy" for the rep range needed.

    • @bruce8536
      @bruce8536 5 років тому

      Mathias Foged Pedersen each set should be challenging, but in your very last set, you should barley be able to do that last rep. If you can then move up the weight next time or add another rep, or just finish with a super set to get the rest of that strength out

    This is hilarious...I was thinking about emailing you and asking you about the situation I'm about to describe, but the video you uploaded today answers it. Here it is...
    I was working out on Tuesday and was doing dumbbell shoulder press, 4 sets with a rep range of 15/10/10/10. Barely got 15 on set 1, barely got 10 on set 2 (matter of fact I went rouge and used C&R on the last rep...lol). I knew going into set 3 that there was NO WAY I was going to be able to get 10 at the same weight, started the set with the weight and got to 8, shoulders on absolute FIRE, put the weight down for 15 seconds, picked them back up and knocked out the last 2, shoulders still on FIRE!!! Last set I had to drop the weight be 5 lbs, go to 6 or 7 then used C&R on the last few.

    Scott Love & Respect from an Indian. Your videos are legitimately trying to teach and not show off or talk some nonsense. I know that around 8 reps are good. How many sets should I do?
