  • in this video I show you the early signs of vq pre cat failure. if not taken care of at an early stage these particles can get sucked into your motor causing it to seize.

    Bank 1 is the firewall cat (behind) bank 2 is always in the front

    It's the opposite: rear (or right hand) is bank 1, front (or left hand) is bank 2. Whichever has cylinder 1 (the closest one to the crankshaft pulley) is bank 1.

    Another note: it will not suck into the engine. What it will do is skew intake vacuum and a/f(o2) signal usually going excessively rich, and hot resulting in pinging. Which is bad. Way to check properly is exhaust back pressure test. No more than .5 psi at idle, 1.2 psi at 2500 rpm. My $0.02

    My son has an 09 Altima and we have had an issue with decreased power/rpm. I replaced the front (bank 2) and hoped that would fix the problem, but after 5-10 min of driving the problem came back, so we are going to pull the rear or bank 1 cat. Hopefully this will help. Thank you for the video.

    All these comments are funny 😄 so I hollowed out my bank 2. Deleted resonator and muffler and straight piped where the muffler was. I got so many compliments on the sound. It was incredible. Buttttttt I had bad misfires and couldn’t get it right. Long story short I ended up hydrolocking the engine threw my cold air intake in a flash flood stuck in traffic in florida. I loved that car. So if you’re thinking about hollowing and dummy plugging the sensors better know what your doing first. I’ve heard several things that I could of done like re gauge the spark plugs and or take it to a tuner shop for the right tune. I never got that far unfortunately because of the hydrolock. Just a bit of information for your reading pleasure. Good luck!

    Just a note -- Bank 1 is not the 'front' on Nissans (and most transverse mounts). The 1,3,5 cylinders are on the firewall and 2,4,6 are by the radiator. So, Bank 1 is back, and Bank 2 is front.

    Does the 2.5 liter 4 cylinder have a Pre Cat in the exhaust manifold? I have 225km on my 2011 Frontier.
    I don't want anything to get sucked into the engine. Also the balance shaft that spins at 2x the speed of the engine and can fail and destroy engine i would like that gone.

    welp...im about 30,000 miles past due on my maxima. The mechanics who looked at it had NO CLUE this was an issue with these years nissans. It's burning oil like mad and got oil sludge build up...im absolutely sure it's due to the pre-cats failing. God I wish I knew earlier. Who knows the damage to the 3.5 this has done so far.
    Time to take some headers off and blast out some cats!

      In internal combustion engines, exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is a nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions reduction technique used in petrol/gasoline and diesel engines. EGR works by recirculating a portion of an engine's exhaust gas back to the engine cylinders. This dilutes the O2 in the incoming air stream and provides gases inert to combustion to act as absorbents of combustion heat to reduce peak in-cylinder temperatures. NOx is produced in a narrow band of high cylinder temperatures and pressures. - JUST GOOGLE EGR

      @spinnanz 6 років тому +2

      Guillermo Corvera but the engine in this video doesn't have egr, except for engine blowby vapours.

    hey there, I've got an SER, and the radiator side precat looks exactly exactly the same than yours looked. First I realised there was a leak in the union among the precat and the manifold. So, when I removed the precat, I found that, where the precat started to go out, it's exactly the same where it's the leak. Also, I knew I hit (not so badly) exactly in the lower of the precat (sorry my bad English), and I was wondering if you think a leak could cause that damage to the precat compound, as oxygen is allowed to enter and maybe it increases temperature in that spot. By the moment, I'm unsure what brand I should use, because here in Mexico, it's a little hard to find quality parts. Autozone sells that precat, made by Magnaflow, about $400 USD. Also, I have to pass emission test, so deleting is not an option. What could I do to fix that leak, if the parts don't look damaged, twisted or cracked? thanks a lot

I have an 08 Altima coupe 3.5 and due to its discontinuation, there are no longer performance parts. I wanted to gut the precats but was wondering if gutting and putting a straight pipe through it would be better than to just gut it and leave it like that? What are the pros and cons if any? Taz from Racingline Performance isn’t around anymore so I’m S.O.L please help

    How does it get sucked into the engine if this is AFTER the engine?

    • @William1866
      @William1866 5 років тому

      This is a post from another video: "The broken catalyst gets sucked into the engine through the exhaust when the engine goes to scavenge, most notable would be following the rev of an engine, downshifting, shifting from one gear to the next, any time the engine revolution changes from fast to not as fast. also please note that the QR25DE DOES NOT have a physical E.G.R. system. if it did there would be a pipe that attaches to the exhaust header to capture exhaust for reintroducing back into the combustion process. Nissan did away with the EGR system by exploiting the Scavenge stage of the engine along with using a more advanced engine control computer system.

    "Front" is next to radiator, is bank 2 and pieces of the catalytic cannot be "sucked into the engine". They will be blown out the exhaust if you are lucky. They will not "destroy your engine" when they come apart. Completely useless video.
