    I gasped at the velvet gills, and the beading is so inspired! It looks like a hat that belongs at masquerade in some kind of fantasy world royal court.

    I really love this!!! Popped in here to also add that the buckram might be more suitable for collars etc. My mum makes traditional South (East) Asian clothes for me, and the softer buckram is used in collars, lapels, plackets, waistbands etc. where you may need something stiffer, esp. if weightier fabrics, often in multiple layers, are being added to a more structured area without irritating of abrading the skin. Is often used like you did, being layered to make it more customisable. Since you mentioned a dance company, I'd place a healthy bet on ballet costumes being in the picture, especially for the sugar plum fairy and Arabian variation pieces!!!

      I have used buckram to make tutu plates/top skirts. 100% used in ballet costumes as tulle alone is rather flimsy.

    honestly, i love your hatmaking videos and would love more, mushroom or otherwise. your videos are always really informative even when there's issues and almost more valuable FOR the issues so i know where the pits are that i would definitely fall in too. your videos always get me pumped to work on stuff but thankfully tomorrow is our last renfest day so it's too late to start anything new (i aggressively tell myself while glancing at materials lmao)

    That hat is DEFINITELY my absolute FAVORITE make you have ever done !
    Love the color gradient, love the lace & embellishments! Looks SO much like the actual mushroom. I wouldn't change it at all, unless it is too uncomfortable to wear.

      Start looking for "antique" machines. I just bought a 1924 Singer with a brand new motor & cord/plug for 75 dollars. It sews like a dream. Big difference having an all metal versus plastic machine !
      Plus an A+++ for aesthetics !
      P.s. some antiques do not have "zig zag" or even reverse, so, that's something to think about.....

    Now how bad is it that I want to see a Victorian lingerie dress made with similar embellishments and colouring to go with it.

  • @kray3883
    @kray3883 2 роки тому +5

    You could probably just add more sizing to the buckram to make it stiffer? Or maybe wash out whatever is already in it and then treat it to whatever stiffness you want.
    They were probably using it as interfacing to make costumes look more structured but still be danceable.

    I recently made my first hat and it was certainly... interesting. I didn't have any buckram at all, so I used wood glue on fabric to stiffen it. I was mainly concerned about my sewing machine, but it sewed through it like a champ. It was just suuuuuper hard to work with, so I get the hat struggles. Though you were on the opposite end of struggles as me. XD

    Could you stiffen the buckram up by putting more size on it? PVC, regular starch or whatever seems best might make it more useful.

  • @avivagodfrey
    @avivagodfrey Рік тому +4

    Do you think that buckram would be light enough to use in interlining? Like stiffening in a waistcoat? It might have enough body to do some nice, tailored outerwear. ovo

I would love to to attempt a hat at some point and I love the shape you got from the pattern! I see what you mean about the fit though…it has a very samurai feel in the shape! This project was so creative! I have never seen that type of mushroom before; your interpretation of a creepy looking fungus was very beautiful. I agree that your choice to make the hat flatter was aesthetically nicer, although I’m sorry if it was not as structurally sound. As always with fashion, you try to strike a balance between art and function, and you hope for the best. Another lovely video. I don’t know if it’s intentional, but your videos are the only ASMRish type of content I find enjoyable, and I am very miso-phonic. Looking forward to seeing the next video!

    That is a very beautiful hat. Very cool. If you wanted, you could make a Dior new-look to go with the hat... because I'm seeing an overlap in design... In any event, who would turn down an opportunity to be part of a mushroom girl group. Much fun.
    Maybe you could use the flimsy buckram roll as a heavy interface for things like cuffs?
    Hope you're feeling better.

    I am obssessed with your costumes. The hat turned out amazing and it's always interesting to hear about the problems or things you would change next time. I hope you don't mind but I am currently recreating your 18th century witch costume from last year because I love what you did. Last night I tried making the hat and while it's not as good as yours, it really helped what you said in your video about making the shape oval for the head instead of making a round hole. I'm so excited because I usually sew normal everyday clothes and it's the first time that I make myself a costume and it's just phenomenal. Thank you for sharing your work, creativity and knowledge, I really trully appreciate it. Love from the south of Spain! 💜
