Serious! Rachel and Hazariel need to plan a fashion show with Nerdforge, Kamui Cosplay, and Prickly Alpaca where cosplayers replicate their favorite Mugler😁
according to Adam Savage, the trick to shiny chrome spray paint is a base layer of GLOSS BLACK spray paint first. The shinier the gloss black, the shiner the chrome on top will be.
my design models teacher would pester me to the moon and back if I didn't add that metallic colours are notoriously finicky. you need to make sure the surface beneath it is *insanely* smooth and free of both dust and fingerprints to achieve a realistic metal finish. we do that on our presentation models by sanding it to oblivion, scraping on a super thing layer of plastic padding, wet sanding that layer to baby's-butt smooth perfection, then spraying on a solid layer or three of spray putty(?) and wet sanding that to death. and then we pray to all designer gods whilst spraying it with three layers of a *high quality* base coat, followed by just enough of the metallic paint that the surface beads start to melt together but not quite (they need to melt together slowly as the paint settles and dries, or else you end up with drips and that's a tragedy after so much work). if we pray hard enough and work hard enough we'll get lucky and trick our head professor into thinking it's truly metal. otherwise it'll still look really good after this process, *if* the base coat was good enough. we often seem to stumble on that base coat as the ones sold in the nearby stores are not quite good enough for metals.
@@matildas3177, sure but IIRC the Adam Savage comment was implying you'd notice any of surface scuffs/unevenness problems on the gloss surface BEFORE adding the chrome, so all things being equal a high gloss black base coat will be better than OTHER base coats (provided the paints are compatible because different brands' solvents can interact and absolutely RUIN itself by crinkling and crackling)
If you know Adam Savage then you know the gloss black is the second-to-last step in a complex process involving hours of smoothing, filling, sanding, cleaning, more sanding, filling again, and more cleaning and then sanding, and then...
With scale modeling, gloss black is usually the move too. Metallic paints are made by having a super fine reflective powder like mica or aluminum suspended in a tinted medium for whatever color you want, yellow for gold etc. By its nature it's a transparent paint, so the gloss under coat causes more reflecting and a brighter shine. But yes, if you were pouring days or weeks into this, you'd probably use something like bondo and filler wet sanding to get it as smooth as possible. Adam likes Moltow Chrome in the airbrush. Gives a brilliant shine.

the fact that Rachel doesn't know anything about or how to say "mugler" is half shocking to the core and half kinda cute like its innocently sweet but also at the same time concerning lol
yeah, anyone who's into sewing must have heard of Mugler, right? Although, ironically, it is a name of Germanic origin (from Alsace - that region that cannot decide which country it belongs to) and the English pronunciation Moog-ler is quite close to the proper German way of saying it, whereas the French use the u from _tu_ and pronounce the -er ending as in l'enfer.

I have had my husband wrap me in plastic wrap and duct tape and draw a wonder woman costume on me so I know how weird it is. Also was amazed at how good my husband was at it. Like wow, skill you hopefully have never used before....Also, thank you for bringing up how expensive Worbla is. I am glad that you have Crafters Audacity. It is so fun to watch you make such bold projects. This turned out so great! Also-Frodo and the Hedgehog have the same laying on the floor energy at 3:22
This is absolutely amazing. You're amazing. I think...everyone would agree, that you could totally do this kind of big project bit by bit, and post in smaller pieces over a series of weeks, so that you don't have so much on your plate in such a short amount of time. Then, we could see more details of your work, but you could also take more breaks. Honestly when I watch your videos, I watch to watch you and listen to you talk and be silly, moreso than the (albeit lovely and creative) thing you're doing. You are what and who we love watching, no matter what you do. Hope you rest up and looking forward to your next endeavor ❤️
You are my new favourite channel on YT. You inspire me and 'crafters audacity' is now my new favourite phrase of self-expression by which I will never be shamed for my makers chaos again :)
What a hugely impressive project! It is so inspirational to see what you create seemingly through sheer force of will. The gauntlets especially with all those teeny tiny finger pieces are so good.
Well done. You definitely made it work and fit your body. I can appreciate all the proper fitting you placed into each section the end result shows. Also glad you mentioned restraint in editing. We've all been there.
You nailed the vibe (including the slightly uncomfortable looking posture that her suit brings) and it just looks incredible overall! Also if you weather it it will ONLY improve 😍
Crafter's Audacity. My thought's exactly after watching you strip and refinish that apothecary cabinet, and having watched Nerdforge make a 13'x13' tufted howl's moving castle rug after making 1 rug to try out the tools. The crafter's audacity is the belief that any skill issue you might encounter should be similar enough to other skills that you can wing it and make it look great!
Great project and now you know that you can knock it out of the park. The reveal is so cool. You do character extremely well. "And we have fun here." Yes, we sure do!
🤣😂🤣 This brought back soooo many memories helping my crafter sister with her projects. I swear you both have the same (lack) of a full plan. At least this time *I* wasn't the model for my sister. It looks great.
I definitely understand the feeling of making a rigid full body suit, feeling confident and then half way through realizing you know a lot less about anatomy than you thought. I have been making plate armour for a while now and wow was that a learning curve. Particularly making my back plate, especially when I'm designing it for myself and I can't see behind me, especially when it's hot quite often.
This is amazing!! Thinking back a few years it’s awesome how far you’ve come making stuff. And this armour in just a week!!!❤ Now… for the the weathering!!!!
Amaaaazzingg work!! I'm really glad to see the creative sparkle in your eye, even tho you were exhausted at the end. Also we need Crafter's Audacity merch please! Thank you for another lovely video.
WOW, now that is quite the undertaking!!! And you DID it!!! How awesome is it that!!! Looked Great!!! I was afraid tho, that the spray paint would melt the foam, but it didnt, yay! Love all of your creations n videos.... Jokes too! Lol!👍👏👏👏💞
Thank you for NOT "distressing" (at least for this video) as the final resulting armor was so SHINY and SO perfect. I am assuming that Rachel buys plastic wrap and duct tape on line because buying in the quantities needed for cosplay can be very "sus". Kudos to Rachel's SO for keeping to task and not dissolving into hysteria.

Your in between comments are just as entertaining as the actual work. What a talent you have as a creator.
I have had my husband wrap me in plastic wrap and duct tape and draw a wonder woman costume on me so I know how weird it is. Also was amazed at how good my husband was at it. Like wow, skill you hopefully have never used before....Also, thank you for bringing up how expensive Worbla is. I often see cosplay videos that use it without talking about how much more expensive it is.
Hope you rest up and looking forward to your next endeavor ❤️
rachel you did an amazing job!! so cool that you could recreate such an iconic mugler piece in a WEEK! 🙌✨
Wowza Rachel! This is incredible. Can't wait for Zendaya to see this and reach out to you.
Your outfit in this video! SO STINKING CUTE!
Replenish your crafter's confidence girl! You can do anything you want! So impressive!
I was washing the dishes and watched the video - spilled water all over the place when you revealed the final look… absolutely stunning!
How do you continue to be the funniest, wittiest, most delightful person ever?? 💗
The ambition!!!!!!!!! The determination!!!!!!!!! I can't believe you pulled that off so well!!!!!!!!!!
That turned put so awesome!!! It does have that retro feeling, I think it would be perfect rusty! CRAFDACITY!!!
The way Nick didn't even flinch when you asked him to draw a straight line from your neck to your buttcracklol
Rocket man is one of my favorite movies and nobody ever talks about it!!!
Rachel, this is one of the most incredible creations I've ever seen!
Frickin FANTASTIC, Rachel!! The extraordinarily amount of effort definitely paid off.
This is amazing! I love how realistic you are about the crafting process. I swear half of my process is just going "ow" "ow" "ow"
I love some of the little pieces you have for decor, like the mechanical calculator. It's like getting easter eggs in each video.
Ok WOW!!! That came out better than expected, what an accomplishment
oooh I loved the little French narrator part! That was very funny and surprising but at the same time not unexpected and so very much in style!!!
I think this is your craziest project EVER! So proud of you 🥺🫶🏻
Very reminiscent (to me anyway) of some of the costumes in Barbarella! Excellent work.
I love that Nick just goes with it
You killllllllllllled this, you are a STAR Rachel !!!
The finger armor!! Amazing! It reminded me of the PNG mud men dancers. They have bamboo fingers that they snap at you all spooky-like.
This project was the perfect reminder to do things for the JOY of it! It came out so so good!!!!
it turned out absolutely glorious, and it looks amazing and badass on you!! i am so impressed!!!!!
Amazing as usual !
AND YES ! The fallout cyborg idea is sick !
I often iron my kraft paper flat ❣️ it adds an extra step but it helps a lot by removing that rolling frustration
This is amazing!! Thinking back a few years it’s awesome how far you’ve come making stuff. And this armour in just a week!!!❤
Now… for the the weathering!!!!
Ummm what a gorgeous fun craft to emulate zendaya! Love your videos. I found them in the last year and they bring me such joy
RACHEEEEELLL!! THIS IS ONE OF YOUR BEST YET!!! So good. So proud! 🤘👏👏👏
NICE! Goodmorning from the Saturday Morning Straggler! Pancakes, hot cocoa and Rachel's Audacity, Perfection!
Amaaaazzingg work!! I'm really glad to see the creative sparkle in your eye, even tho you were exhausted at the end. Also we need Crafter's Audacity merch please! Thank you for another lovely video.
i knew it would look stunning but omg, the results blew me away. gorgeous!
Amelie!!! Oh my god, what a brilliant movie I love it so much
WOW, now that is quite the undertaking!!! And you DID it!!! How awesome is it that!!! Looked Great!!! I was afraid tho, that the spray paint would melt the foam, but it didnt, yay! Love all of your creations n videos.... Jokes too! Lol!👍👏👏👏💞
How on earth...are you this talented. Wow. You kill it every time!!
SO impressive doing this in a week, it looks so cool!! Shiny :)
Bugle Witch Fingers!…. Omg a classic!😅
✨incredible ✨ so impressed you completed this in a week
for making this in a week, this is SERIOUSLY impressive. I am once again floored by the extent of your talents
Super impressed! So cool how you work with all of these materials. I just love the whole building process.
Omg Nick is just the sweetest, my hubby would be… less patient with me 😂
