- Let's make a toadstool hat! In this video I show you how I made a delightful diy toadstool / mushroom hat for halloween. I used mostly recycled and thrifted materials to create this magical hat on a budget. Great for cosplay or fancy dress & halloween. I hope this video inspires you to make your own wonderful creation!

So much amazing detail! All of the colors and textures you used on the ruffles and the underside of the mushroom cap! The little germs on the smaller white spots near the edge of the cap!! The moss on your shoes!!! All so lovely.

I LOVE THIS!!!! I actually made my own mushroom hat but it’s not as fancy as yours. I probably spent 50 dollars on fabric and it barely covered the whole thing. Life in California 🫡

THIS IS IT! A perfect diy project I needed for my halloween! I will check out if there's some beach hat in my local thrift stores, cause it'll be easier to transform a finished hat than to cut so much cardboard, but kudos to you for using bubblewrap, I totally didn't think I could do so, and I have a lot of leftovers! Sorry for random rambling, I just got so excited!

This is a great project. I would just add some voice over or text on the screen to explain what you’re doing at each step for ppl who can’t follow (due to not understanding what techniques you’re using etc..)

I made one! It turned out ok. I wish I had made the headband bigger to accommodate the gill fabric. It was trickier than I thought to make the dome smooth and super tricky to keep the fabric from puckering along the edge. The video doesn't show any detail on how you managed this. It's much heavier than I expected. I also made a paper mache amanita hat that is lighter weight (therefore more comfy to wear) and was way easier to make.
My friend went to summer camp with one of these (made by her), and everyone knew her for that session as ‘the girl with the mushroom hat’ lol

How much fabric did you use for the gills? I'm assuming you had to multiply the measurement of the circumference of the base of the hat. Like, was it double the circumference or triple or something?

Great question! I would for sure add some sort of soft foam padding to the inside part of the hat, it wasn't very comfortable to wear for long periods. And I probably could have glued on some of the jewels and sequins to save time too, I'm not sure why I sewed them all on by hand!

Thank you ☺ I used printmaking mull cloth for the underside but you could also use cheese cloth or a cotton gauze.
Did you sew? Im confused when you apply the red fabric and pin it
