I really appreciate the video blogs. Also, how transparent you are with your life. I love stickermule! I'm glad I followed that advice from you from a video way back! Thanks for sharing!
Wishing I had a honey house floor to scrape! Many times I've scraped propolis off the cement garage floor with the flat edge of a grout trowel (works beautifully). On the kitchen wooden floor I use a plastic spackel blade (I should probably put some type of sheet protection on the kitchen floor from April to October!) Even worse is when it gets on your shoes so I've learned not to wear them back into the house unless absolutely necessary to avoid further scraping. With you on feeding the bees - our lack of rain has impacted the fall flow and flowering season looks to be short and maybe not so sweet filling the hives so I feel like a witch over a cauldon pot these days and local big box store must think I'm casing the joint as I visit the baking aisle frequently looking for 25 lbs of sugar. Managed to get some mite treatments in now that the weather cooled down but time is fast running out to get the hives winter ready here in Pennsylvania. I'm blessed with a husband who by osmosis has picked up on bee lingo and info (from when I'm talking to new beekeepers) that he can answer most basic questions with credibility! Thanks for keeping it real Nathan!
I ran an experiment in 1 colony with GrubX pollen patty in a cd case. Colony was HEAVY with shb and they disappeared. If you take the caps and ladders off those feeders and stuff a couple swiffer sheets in them, you’ll get a lot of shb.
@@DuckRiverHoney I just stirred it in. It remained in grainy. Was very strange. Never saw any actively consuming it, but I had a significant amount of SHB and they disappeared quickly. Didn’t seem to harm bees at all. I treated my yard after that with GrubX and have barely seen any SHB.
Columbia River Gorge (WA state) beekeeper here. Like you I'm trying to make a living beekeeping. Soooo tired of sitting in front of the computer, I had to make a change. You had a video this year that really hit home with me. You stopped what you were doing, looked around and said how lucky you were that beekeeping was your job. I had the same realization awhile back. One day it hit me, I looked around, smiled and thought to myself "this is my job". Keep up the great work and great video's. I gotta admit King Bob's video's are my favorite, but I think your sliding into #2 ahead of Mr. Steppler up north.
Great video, and you have a beautiful family. You’re truly blessed…. Sam of UA-cam’s “South Carolina Happy Bees” uses a wire brush to fluff up those swiffer sheets, before installation. Makes sense …
I tracked wax and propolis into our kitchen after walking several hundred feet outside. When my wife figured out what it was she was after me anytime I did anything with the bees for weeks.
his was another great video! I’m growing my business but you are way ahead of me. I only have 32 hives but started with 2 from last year. I’m thinking I may be close to 100 next year and think this system will work for me. I’ve never used the in hive feeder yet just top hive feeders and buckets. I’m still not sure which way I’m going to stick with. Feeding is probably the most tedious thing I have to do so far. Thanks again, Clay
When I am extracting I lay a temporary layer of cardboard down on the floor. Honey is dry enough that any spills can be wiped up with a damp cloth. I use packing tape to tie the different pieces of cardboard together. Then every so often I replace the cardboard as it gets dirty. Don't know if you could use that with your regulations. Thanks Nathan for the video update.
FYI There's a test that clames the fibers are not good for bees. I'll have to backtrack and let you know where I found it. I planned to use them . I did for a couple hives before I found this Info. Now I have to check it out.
Leaf blower. Take a can of grub x and dump it into the output air of the leaf blower. Super easy way to spread evenly. The larvi will crawl 6-10 feet from hive.
I use gardstar but about 36 bucks for 4 oz. Makes 50 gal but not the way I mix. Spread with 2 gal plaint water bucket with sprinkle head all around the hives
Two videos in a week. You da man. I am in the middle making bottom boards. I don’t have any beetle issues but I see beetle issues down the road 4 miles away at a friends apiary. Thanks for the like always
When you are looking for a place to put your bees for the summer. What things catch your attention? I have to do it in the fall to so its set up in spring.
I've seen a compound bow on the wall at 8:50, so You're not only into beekeping but also fishing and bowhunting! That's awesome! The bow itself isn't very modern (high BH, soft cams), is it still in use or just a family heirloom? Gosh, there's even more! Just noticed a nice collection of a recurve bows further to the left... I love it!
The old compound is my Dads target bow from the 80’s. I did get my first archery deer with it. I like shooting recurves but I generally hunt with a compound.
Like to learn more about bee insurance. I looked into forage insurance based on rain fall but never got it. Go to church an keep your head down and accept the blessings that come your way. And don’t count your money while sitting at the table. Understand there’s the educational or schooling side then there’s reality. Reality says there’s no guarantees only your character will shine through. To cash flow. Find things to build on the spot. I use to make bee boxes(yes I know the buy cost) but when a order was made I went and built it. I got a reputation for quality built and priced to move bee box setups. But the idea is to order then make. Please understand the man above gives you answers but it’s up to you to accept and make something of it. It a long way to the top if you wanna Rknroll Looks easy nope Thank you for sharing
Hey Nathan, great video I'm still interested in seeing more on the wax dipping tank, dimensions, and what you would recommend and not recommend to anyone building one. I plan to build one, just waiting to get more info and feedback from others. Thanks! Brady
Loving the vlog videos! Learning a lot on the businesses side of bee keeping! Just had one question and don’t know if you have already done a video on this but, how do you go about getting agricultural grants for beekeeping? I didn’t know that was a thing.
Hey Nathan, as usual I'm late to the party, looks like 3 months late.... anyways... LOL. The labels, did you have someone create the design for them or did you make them, and did your get the UPCs from GS1 or from a reseller? Wishing you the best of a new year and successful new season coming up.
Tried to get 12oz glass French Square bottles from Specialty and Berlin, they both stated they don't have 12oz French Square bottles. Do you mind sharing a link or a product number? Love your videos! We are starting off slowly and about 2 years behind you in size. You have saved us a lot of time and headache.
I really enjoy your videos. What do you general sell a case of honey for ? I'm looking to possibly start selling to stores but have no idea of what to charge. Thanks
I appreciate the vlogs i also starting bee business trying to make living on it Your videos is so educational can i subtitle it to my people in the Arabic county ?
Man, I get that glazed-over look too. The spouses let us ramble on so we can sort things out
Lol!

@burleybeeyard interesting. I thought maybe you dissolved it first.

Yeah, we’ll see how they work.

Yikes! Not good when you’re on the wife’s watch list 😬
love smallie fishing, glad everything going well!
👍
Wait, what? You have time for fishing too? Much more organized than me.
Bob I don’t have as many irons in the fire as you do!
Great video, always looking forward to the next. Loved the intro of you and the family out at the river.
Thanks Tommy!
Glad to see that you got some smallmouth fishing in.
Not enough! 😂

I usually just mop it down.
I do the same... I've even taken the cardboard outside and hosed it down then let dry on the driveway to use another day!
Honey house really looking good. Glad you got some free equipment and your honey sales are growing. Thanks for the updates. Take care.
Thanks Garry!

🤣

I’ve got a hand spreader I’ll use next spring, but I wanted this treatment to be HEAVY around and under the hives.
I’ve used lime before on ground around hives to prevent SHB from breeding (like what is used to line a ball diamond) with success, has anyone else?
@marywickenheiser2628 I’ve heard of that, diatomaceous earth, and even salt being used.
I use gardstar but about 36 bucks for 4 oz. Makes 50 gal but not the way I mix. Spread with 2 gal plaint water bucket with sprinkle head all around the hives

10-4 Brady, thanks
Space Balls is a good movie :D
I’m glad someone finally mentioned that reference. I was getting concerned for the health of our society. 👍
Resell certificate-🤦🏼 thank you!!
Sales tax adds up, especially if you don’t have to pay it!
Loving the vlog videos! Learning a lot on the businesses side of bee keeping! Just had one question and don’t know if you have already done a video on this but, how do you go about getting agricultural grants for beekeeping? I didn’t know that was a thing.
It’s state by state, and you have to do your homework.

Thanks Greg. I used a graphic designer for labels, and straight from gs1

8 fluid oz bottles hold 12 oz of honey by weight.
Ok sorry, I misunderstood. I was thinking you had 12oz bottles that hold roughly 1lb of honey. Thank you!@@DuckRiverHoney
Honey is always sold by weight. I have 12 oz, 16 oz, and 24 oz bottles.
Gidday from the Ottawa valley Canada. Judt a question about your floor. Is it sealed and what did you use to do it. Thks.
I insulated the floor, put down advantech over top, then laid down a commercial grade vinyl plank.
Will you be making the marketing/small bee business talk available to those not attending the FL meeting??
You know, I probably will. I need to film the presentation at some point.
I really enjoy your videos. What do you general sell a case of honey for ? I'm looking to possibly start selling to stores but have no idea of what to charge. Thanks
I do 35% off retail price.
@@DuckRiverHoney My next question is what kind of contract do you use or don’t use ?
I appreciate the vlogs
i also starting bee business trying to make living on it
Your videos is so educational can i subtitle it to my people in the Arabic county ?
Sure.
Did you ever release a video of your honey house? You may have and i forgot about it.
I’ve got a playlist on it, 3 videos so far I think.
Small world I'm only 30 mins from Somerset, KY. Where do you live now?
I’m back home in Duck River, TN
Is your honey dark or are those bottles colored? They appear shaded in the video.
My honey was darker this year. It was a good year for poplar.
Any other options for sticker than Sticker Mule? (saw they pulled ads from Rumble based on allegations, they cancel - so do I!).
Sticker giant, stickers for you. There may be others.
