- I took a 2021 Harley Road King on a 2000 mile road trip to Key West after riding the Road Glide and Street Glide on long road trips too. I'm used to mid sized naked bikes, but I love learning from coaches about how to handle larger bikes, like baggers. It's not always about size and strength, just technique. If my only issue over 2000+ miles was needing a trick when taking the bike off the kickstand on an incline, not a bad obstacle. Here is my 2000 mile review as a petite woman rider on the 830 lb bagger.

The red one you are riding with the open front fairing and the three headlights.
It has the fairing to protect you from the wind rain and grit from the road and does not have the extra weight of huge bags and especiallty the entire huge top front fairing with all the other stuff.
Those bikes look great standing next toi them but that closed heavy fairing compromises the open feel of a motorcycle when you are driving it.
I love my Italian ADV\tour. If I went HD it would probably have to be the PanAm special
Road king for me.
I prefer the RK because it has all the advantages of a bagger (ride, storage, etc.) without all the distractions (infotainment). Also, the view is not blocked by a huge faring. I like the open view it affords me while still protecting me from the wind. Suffice to say any bagger is a good choice, just depends on how many gadgets you feel comfortable with/without...
And best of all less things t that can go wrong and no expensive electrical ret
Honestly, you are a gift to Harley Davidson's marketing dep. The scene of you just squatting next to the bike, when you were just being you and speaking from the heart about the bike is like a million dollar ad. Inspirational to all riders. My Dad bought a Heritage Softail in 2006, instead of a Road King. He said it's because he couldn't reach the ground on the Road King. Talking to him, if he could do it over again, he would have got the Road king and practice the same techniques you mentioned. (He's 5'6). It's not just women that struggle with the height thing. I guarantee you the weird comments are from guys that would fail Jerry's class. The same class you crushed.

I'm 6'2" and weigh 190. I've parked my Suzuki DRZ 400 in the woods on slopes with the kick stand downhill because I couldn't get turned around. At only 420 lbs it was a bear to get off the kickstand and upright when I was ready to go again. So a lighter bike and a bigger, stronger rider isn't always a solution. About 15 years ago, when I was 63 yrs old I was touring Ecuador on a KLR 650 and dropped it in a ditch with a full tank. Talk about top heavy! Luckily, after I crawled out from under it and before my wife could get to me, a local teenager came to help. I've learned to keep my touring bikes on hard surfaces so I can use the standard push with the legs and back to get them upright. I love your channel and watching you grow as a motorcyclist and as a person. Keep up the great work!
I have to say I enjoy your riding videos more than any others I have seen. I'm not a small rider at 6' 2" but your tips are helpful for anyone who wants to learn. I have been riding for 50 years and I'll be taking some skills classes this year because it could only make me better. Currently riding a 2021 Harley Forty - Eight.
Great video. I'm of short stature. Harley make a 1" lowering part easy install. Easy in the wallet. They also make a kick stank extender. I Couldent live without it. 1 hole to drill. Drill on low speed as it's hardened steel. Tnx

I am a 71 year old male 5' 9" still riding a fairly new Road King and loving it. I admire you for taking on the challenge of the bigger bikes and being able to handle them. I had a little trouble myself with the weight when the bike is full loaded, but embrace the challenge. I still love to ride the touring bikes. I say to the haters, give credit where its due. Love you Doodle! I’m 4’ 11” and I went to the MSF course last year in July in NY. Im used to people telling me “you can’t ride a bike” “your too small to handle your bike” “stick to a 150”. I proved them all wrong. I got a ninja 250 as a starter and you make me want to push myself. I would eventually want to do a road trip to NJ and take Jerry’s course there!Your inspirational, keep up the great content ^_^

@@DoodleOnAMotorcycle not sure you'll see this but a little trick to finding Neutral on a Harley-davidson is when you have the clutch pulled give it a little throttle and as the rpms are going down it should slip right into neutral from 1st gear
Doodle - I think these videos that include the subject of a petite lady on a big bike are extremely valuable. Thank you. I’m a big, big guy with some big bikes but you give me confidence to have my wife and daughter practice their techniques and skills to be able to ride with confidence. Why not just get smaller bikes, well certainly, in fact I love a GROM, but in my eyes baggers are beautiful and represent preposterously great value used. Thank you for these insightful videos.
I have not seen another channel review all three touring models, other than short rides around the dealership. This is the best extensive review Ive seen on all three bikes ! Great job ! I love my 2021 Heritage 114. It tours great and perfect for around town.

Hey, Doods! Another quality video. My first Harley was a Road King, I've had a V-Rod and now a Road Glide Special. The RGS is an amazing highway bike but I absolutely love jumping on a RK because it seems so small and nimble in comparison. I may have to consider the 2-bike route! I go about 6' and needed to add a TallBoy seat and mini-apes to make the RG fit me comfortably... you're absolutely right about needing highway pegs, too. Great job comparing the three baggers; I think I see a personal RK or RG in your future! Safe rides!

I adore you for riding such beasts of a machine (even the mid-sized ones) and is at awe for all the rides you go on.
Your physical strength doesn't really matter when it comes to riding bikes, it's more about your mental strength and desire.
I'm 5'8" and I ride one that is around 400-450lbs , half of what a Road Glide weighs. Its about our preferences, desire and availability.

I am glad that you are getting more comfortable with heavy motorcycles. I have always preferred relatively lightweight ones myself, but then again, I am mainly a backroad rider and have never been interested in touring. I enjoyed this series.

'21 or '22 Goldwing with the DCT transmission will blow you away!...in a good way! Play with the transmission which you can shift, let it shift by itself (Fun) or combine the two! (You can select manual or auto mode at any time.) Allowing the bike to shift in auto, you can still quickly shift up or down at your leisure; then after not touching it for a few seconds; the bike will return to self-shifting! Brilliant. Good Rides

I really love your channel because it's so full of variety and I love your enthusiasm. I ride a sports bike (a Honda CBR 600) but have ridden many other bikes from 125 dirt bikes to a BMW 1200 GS and love the variety of different bikes. I've never ridden a Harley but maybe I should try one.
Love the road-trip videos! I started on a sportster and graduated to a softail slim. I love it! Bigger but much easier to handle than the sportster was. My hubs let me ride his Indian chieftain and it didn’t seem too different than mine except for the fairing. I didn’t care for the fairing 🙂.
I began riding in the summer of 2009 on a 2003 Indian Chief Springfield (Gilroy machine, 100 CI engine). I don't know the weight, but it was probably close to 800 lbs. I had a developing issue with knee pain and the Indian's reliability, so I willingly downsized to a 2013 Yamaha V-Star 950T and put almost 70,000 miles on it. Knowing I'm not using the bike for trips, I downsized again to a 2022 Triumph Trident 660 and love the ease of maneuvering it. Bottom line: I appreciate your videos and whenever I've test ridden a bigger bike, I've used your shared techniques. Thanks you!
I really enjoy your perspective, I am 62 5’7” and ride a Road Glide I still have to be careful where and how I park it. I enjoy long hauls more than anything, I try to do a couple 2k rides and one longer 4 to 6k ride per year. I hate the stock seats but at 109 lbs you don,t weigh enough for it to be a problem at 190 lbs and I feel every bump with it.
I'm a vertically challenged male. Your videos are inspirational and motivating to me. Thank you for sharing your experiences and skills. As for the naysayers . . . P.S. as a side note I just ordered the new Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Explorer. You and I are part of the Triumph owners family!!

Great video well done. Just bought a Roadking as like the looks as classic and you can add take off options screen extra back bags etc. Great comfort and sound with Vance/Hines pipes.
My ‘07 Road King bars had me leaning forward too much. I switched to Heritage bars (I think they’re stock on the Electra Glide Ultra Classiic) and they’ve been great. I went with a Mustang seat which has been a nice improvement and yup, I love the backrest! 72k miles and still going strong.
I think it’s great that you’re willing to ride anything. You’re a true biker. I rode for decades before I ever got a cruiser. Have still only bought the one and I have a Ducati and a Beemer as well. If it’s got two wheels, you can have fun on it.
Ive got a 2011 Road King and I LOVE IT!! I love to see all the women riders, and Im gonna tell my 5ft 3 in daughter about your site, shes starting to ride and you would be a Godsend for her to watch ya ride. It would really give her confidence. Be careful and God bless!!

Anyone who gives you a hard time for making slow to no speed mistakes on a heavy bike hasn't riden one. If you ride long enough sooner or later your going to make a mistake.I've been riding for over 40 years and have made tons of mistakes. You go girl love your content and love to see you riding bigger bikes.

A week ago, I almost bought a 2005 Kawasaki Vulcan motorcycle with 29000 miles on it but I just could'nt buy a motorcycle that bound me into one riding/driving position like that.
I am now looking at a brand new Suzuki SV650 standard 'naked' water cooled v-twin motorcycle that gets 60 miles per gallon.
Easier to finance and fuel and it's life begins with me caring for it properly.
I like that the middleweight and small bikes feel like a part of your body and not a lump of steel you have to fight everytime you stop it.
Yea,it's got a chain you have to babysit and valves to adjust.
But don't beat the crxp out of it,ride it like a sane person.
Maintain it right and put good gas in it,those things last a long time.

Haven't ridden a Road Glide, but have ridden the other two. I liked the RK, but preferred the SG's handlebar position... more comfy for me. They also seem a little wider giving better leverage. Nice review, Doodle... 👍🏻

You put the correct low reach seat on it like I did, and it is perfect. I took the same class you did . My RK was a 2007 model. Had a 110 engine in it. But now I ride a Triumph Bonneville T-120 black. The reason is health reasons. Happy cruising Doodle. 😊
Yet another great informative video! I think I'm a pretty good rider, but I need to learn to really turn my head and look for line of sight to where I want to go. I'm still not doing that yet....need to learn that! I ride 2 very different bikes sometimes on the same day and they have totally different characteristics... (Honda CTX700 DCT & Yamaha Majesty YP400). At 5-5 myself, the Yamaha, when I'm wearing sports shoes, at a full stop way up on my toes. The Honda has a 27 inch to seat length and I'm not only flat-footed but knees bent. Anyway, great videos keep'em coming!! AND RIDE SAFE OUT THERE!

Great video! I’m hoping to step up to a bagger this season. I’m leaning toward a SGS or RGS due to having all the info directly in front of me. I must admit, these bikes do seem BIG to me, thbut I have riding experience and think I’d get used to it pretty quickly. Thanks for posting this video! 👍😉

I am very impressed with your ride on this Harley . I have ridden and toured on 3 different Honda Interceptors and they presented their own set of problems that I had to overcome .1 I found to relieve stress on my arms and wrists I had to travel at 80 mph or better so the wind would hold me up . Which was a sweetspot also for gas mileage . 2 I being short legged and the Interceptor being a bit top heavy became a problem . I had a slight tip over when I had to pull over quickly on a downward and uneven down ramp that was sand covered for a firetruck . Luckily my full soft full saddlebags saved the bike . Getting it back up was a trick . But I turned the front end all the way to one side ( nearly pooped out a kidney ) and managed to get it upright on my own . 3 My other problem was a male problem because leaning at that angle for more than 150 miles tended to make the baby maker berries go numb and was painful when they woke up or I had to relieve myself ( thumbs up to the standard or cruiser style bikes ) . But as far as power , dependability and that beautiful sound an 80mph Interceptor makes...it was worth it . I took them on several trips to Colorado , Chicago , Key West and points out West and I loved them all . PK

Nice video! I've a Road King. I'm 5'10" and 200 lbs. Yes, the RK is a heavy bike to push around the parking lot or sometimes lifting off the side stand but by and large, it's a very balanced bike and easy to ride. I'm not into all the gadgets of a Road Glide or Street Glide although I did add a GPS unit to the Road King. As for not finding neutral, try having a heel shifter. I have one and I can almost always find neutral with the heel shifter as opposed to just relying on my toe shifter. Other than that, thanks for the good video and everyone be safe out there!

Hey Doodle great video.you speak of tricks ,i know im going to be trying your trick or method of turning the handlebar, before standing up the bike,i know my new kid (a 250)is around 450 or 460 bl (gotta look that up) but compared to my twinstar 200 its a big difference for me so im going to be trying that out.
Back in 2006 I purchased a 2006 Road King Custom. Two reasons: 1. HD already lowered it as standard for folks who are vertically challenged like me. ;-) 2. They used handlebars that are not as wide as a standard road king. i.e. It gives the bike more of a bar bike look, while being awesome for folks with shorter arms. Your comment about the wider road king handle bars made me think of it. Was really disappointed they stopped making that bike because it was a great way for shorter folks to get onto a great touring bike.
I have a Road King and it is my absolute favorite overall motorcycle. I also have a Sportster and an older Yamaha SR500 in my garage while my sons have a KTM and a Moto Guzzi between them that I can take out for a spin. If long distance touring were my main goal, I would probably get the Ultra as I do like the styling. But most of my riding is day trips and commuting to work. Having the ability to remove the windshield is something I could not do on one of the fairing equipped touring bikes. I really enjoy that wind in the face riding experience on the King. I'm not an overly large guy at 5'6", 170lbs but I find the Road King very easy to ride. The weight can be a challenge in some instances but you do get used to it and the weight fades away as you begin to roll. I've also been riding since I was 16, about 46 years ago, on all types of motorcycles on road and off. It is the Road King that keeps that smile on my face every time I ride it. Enjoy what ever it is you like to ride and be save out there.

Although I somewhat agree that the glides have distracting gadgets, I also found it quite distracting to always have to look down at a tank mounted dash, as you eluded. I love my Streetglide and it's gadgets.

Excellent review... just want to say your videos are getting very good. I ride a road king. For me its about being on the road. The road glide and street glide interfere with that experience. For all the add ons get a rock-form and add gps on your phone. But great review and keep up the good work!
Great review. My first cruiser is Kawi 650 Vulcan. Once I get comfortable I'll move up to a Road Glide or Road King.

Road king is great! I have the 2018 police version and it is my every day vehicle down here in Florida. I took Jerry's course and he is great! Keep practicing and keep having fun!

My first bike was an 84 Nighthawk. I discovered Eagle Rider about a year ago. Wasn't exactly sure if I trusted it at first. But I finally pulled the trigger and rented a 2021 Road King Special which is coming up in Two Weeks. My area is a little different as Harley Davidson Big Barn has their own Fleet. Rick with Big Barn was explaining to me that Eagle Rider only gave them 4 Motorcycles which caused frustration and Confusion with rentals. I've never solely road a Harley before as I'm used to my 84 Nighthawk that was lit really all that heavy or quick. I've been to Demo day the past 3 years so I'm comfortable riding Harleys. Me my self is just nervous to ride through town just for some fun. I have no Motorcycle riding friends here in Iowa. I loved the review on the bike and some helpful tips that'll get me through this "3 Day" adventure.
I'm also going to be a doing a review of the Road King Special and Eagle Rider after my ride. So hopefully I can help more riders get used to possibly renting before just straight up purchasing one.

Sounds like you had a great time. I'm currently riding a 883 Sportster, and looking for a Road King. I would prefer an Evo if I can find one for the right price. I don't need all the fancy gadgets, I just like to go ride and a big touring bike will let me do that. The longest I have ridden on my sportster was about 3 1/2 hours and that's without a windshield. Takes a lot out of you. I rented a 2021 Road Glide in California last year and rode it to Big Bear. I spent 7 hours on that bike and felt just as good when I got off as I did when I got on. Only thing I didn't like was the windscreen was too short, I got a lot of head buffeting. It definitely takes a little getting used to balancing all that weight at a stop and slow speeds.
A few years ago we flew to the Big Island of Hawaii and rented a Road Glide from the Harley dealership in Kona. We rode to the southernmost point in the USA. You actually rode all the way there??? Impressive!

Well, you've already heard about the c/c on Road King(it's there) and misplaced key fobs(literally less than a 2 minute setup) but those are tiny misadventures that add to the adventure,right? The scary part is in the Keys you are describing the symptoms of heat exhaustion! Not to be taken lightly. Stay hydrated. We wanna keep ya around haunting our screens every Friday.lol
I'm thinking about getting a road king. Currently, I ride a 2007 honda vtx 1300. Upgraded the jets, decapitated the air box, added a batwing fairing and some saddlebags and highway bars. Great little bike! I'm just not sure about the chain drive truly. Only ever ride 1 Harley.
Great video, as usual. I agree that anyone can ride anything they like, and they absolutely should. Just maybe, as you say, with a little training or guidance here and there to prevent some of the more painful lessons everyone learns. Ignore the trolls, and others like those commenters, who make a judgement without considering that everyone should be able to get the same joy out of bikes that they also do. I'd much rather meet you after riding up a hill to a rest stop on the top than any of them. And RK for me, with no screen or back rests.

Of the three it’s the road king for me. But without the wind screen. Also lowers help out a lot with buffeting for some reason.
Would love to hear your opinion on the Heritage Classic 114 after a road trip. Since, you have reviewed the baggers, it would be great to see you tour on some of the softails to compare and review. Great content.
I like the RG, but I'd get bars that come further back, too, since I'm a whole half inch taller than you. HD here in Houston almost talked me into one, but I'm still in love with my Ducati.
Heritage Softail is basically the same setup as a Road King. It sits a bit lower and 100lbs lighter so it's more nimble. I've owned both but I stuck with the Heritage and not because I'm small (6-2).
The amusing thing about those negative comments is that you can most likely out ride the majority of those guys. Just take a look at any Sturgis video at how many guys are dragging their feet at slower speeds and across intersections. You've already proven them wrong, but their attitudes will unfortunately never change. Just keep doing what you're doing.
The owner of the business I work at is selling theirs for dirt cheap. I am so tempted to take it off their hands! Great video doodle!
I have a 2006 Road King and I enjoyed it, her name is Luna. My husband got me a low sit to reach the floor, still have to reach for the kickstand lol. Upgraded from my Honda Showed Spirit 07.👌
I currently have a 2012 Street Glide. I am not that tall at 5ft 7. I really want a Road King as I don’t like a fairing in front of me. May or may not ride without the windshield but I know I like to have an instructed view. To me too, the weight difference is notable pulling it upright (Street Glide vs Road King)
Now I do like the looks of a Road Glide more than a Street Glide, also around here they are much more uncommon. I need to ride an RG too I guess.

Tip # 676, when taking bike off of the Jiffy, turn wheel to the right slightly, right hand on the bars, grab the rear of the gas tank and with body motion and lifting at the tank you have successfully lifted bike upright..
