      I think it becomes second nature after a few years but i think for the new comers it helps to have a timeline like this.

      I thought you just feed them , keep the loft clean and raced them. After watching a few video clips it’s a science. Very interesting. I might give it a go now I have the time. Keep them coming my friend.

    17 hours of light everyday? i have a timer light in the loft if i set that to come on 5 am. turn off 7 am (natural light) leave off until 7 pm - turn back on until 10 pm that 17 hours. the daylight here in ireland will change so I will have to work around that. but no matter the case it's 17 hours of daylight exactly for 9 weeks? I am racing for the first year the light system looks like it is so much easier for me with work etc.

    • @MaydisLoft
      @MaydisLoft  6 місяців тому

      17 hours is good, some people do 18 or more. The point is to then stop the artificial light which will reduce the day light horizon and triggers the moult since they think fall is coming. I'm glad you're using that system, best of luck 👍

    Great tips for new fanciers like myself, assuming you got babies at the beginning of the season (Jan-March). What if you have your babies weaned in May-June and your race season is 15th of August?? You won't have time for all of this, especially cutting & pulling feathers. What steps from your plan would you consider skipping to be at least somewhat competitive with the ones who weaned early in the year. Or what to consider as important steps to have your YB flying few races (3-4 races) and be ready for next year's OB season. Thanks for the video. You have a new subscriber 🤜🤛.

      I have 5 birds in the team weaned late April and May. I try not to. I had to train them in June to catch up to the others to toss training together in July and August for the races.
      They were only on the natural system, molting later than the others.
      They will still race but likely their performance will be best mid season to end of season. The important part is to look at their wings and if they dropped the 9th and 10th I usually don't race them until they regrow. They're the most important flights for performance and they'll have a hard time coming home in a long race.
      Many flyers still do well on the natural system and is best actually for OB. All else equal it's still the quality of the bird that makes the difference. Best of luck buddy

      Thanks a lot for your advice. I enjoy watching your videos so keep them coming. I had no other choice but to buy late hatches. So I do it on natural since there's no other way to do it better at such a short time - and I agree that a lot has to do with the pedigree and how well you can teach them homing. We will see. I'll try your method next year when I have some breeders from this year's YB season. All the best from Poland.

    Thanks fo this video. I followed this system with my first rounders this year. They just got done growing in their 9th and 10th. Unexpectedly a couple birds dropped their 10th again, one even dropped his 9th and 10th. Any advice as to why this happened?

    Crazy. I’m just getting back into the sport after 20 years or so. I kind of felt behind or my timing was messed up. So I chose to make a system and our timelines are so similar. I shut lights off on the 12th and cut on 15th. At least now if your timeline work similar for my birds I have a better idea of how to manage. Thanks for sharing

      They're about 4 or 5 feet long which plugs right into the outlet. It's good, economic and the light is super bright. I'm not sure what brand but I got it at home depot

    Isn’t that why they stopped the Darkening system in your because it’s an advanced just like the light system is an advance if anyone flies the natural system?

    • @MaydisLoft
      @MaydisLoft  Рік тому

      That's a good point! I think the difference is that between the natural system and the light system is still a narrow difference regarding performance, an acceptable advantage. Everyone has an option to use one or the other. Some say YB on the natural system are better OB! But the difference between natural and dark system is way different in performance with the latter having too much advantage. But the real problem is that while honest hardworking guys on the dark system could then be competing with dishonest people with birds on something bad, and it's difficult to manage integrity vs drug testing.
      I wonder how other Combines that allow the dark system manage it!?

    Hey sir thank you for your time and efforts ... My question to you is if my young birds season starts in June, July how can I use this light system

    • @MaydisLoft
      @MaydisLoft  8 місяців тому +1

      Back out 30 to 35 days from race 1 so you can do a good toss training program. Back out 30 days for the moult - pull the flights and lock them down for 3 weeks inside with no flying and 1 week let them out with no pressure or toss training as they'll still be finalizing regrowing the flights and start flying again. Go easy on the 1st week of toss traing. Back out 2 weeks that's when you cut the flights and shut off the 18 hours of light and they will moult. You can only use 1 week before pulling the flights. You may not have time to do a long pre-moult training, so after your birds are ranging good, use a 5 mile radius educating them on a short toss training program. You want to get a few tosses before the moult, I think it's crucial.
      You will need to shorten the time window for most steps, but I think it's doable. Put it on paper backtracking. It's tight, but doable.
      Where do you race that starts in June?
