  • We try out the projector/whiteboard combo as Yay Math takes on absolute value equations! We investigate "bifurcating" (which sounds like when mathematicians end a relationship) and also situations when there's no solution. Enjoy the magically scrolling screen, YAY MATH!

    Robert, I used your videos in highschool to survive algebra, geometry, trig and pre-calc. I am 7 years out of highschool and just now going to college, I come back yet again and you never fail me. Thanks for being a great teacher, helping me graduate highschool and review for college! Yay Math!

      Haha, an eighth grader and a college student (who happens to work in a school cafeteria where I feed eighth graders) are watching the same lesson. Only I didn't find it from looking it up, it was part of my course. :-)

    Hi, so sorry the side cut out. It's because it's (1/2)x, so you need to multiply 2 to cancel the 1/2. Thanks for checking about it!

    The fact that you laugh at it makes him a good comedian.
    If you understand absolute values now, then he is a good teacher.

      I have a question. How did you comment this 11 years ago if the video was posed 10 years ago? Also how is life going now all these years later?

    How can I know when to add/subtract or multiply? Like in the second to the last example which is absolute value of 1/2 x - 1 equals two. The first equation was solved by just adding one to both sides but the second equation was solved by multiplying two. I tried using the add/subtract method and came up with different result. :3

    On the last problem it was confusing with the fraction 1/2 I changed it to a decimal and got x=8 when it was positive and when it was negative I got x= -1 so can I change the fraction to a decimal and solve it and if I can't then why can't I? And yes I did bifurcate..

    If there is no answer for |x-3|=-5 Wy when we solve |x-3|=5 we solve it by using negative five ?

    To solve for x, you would subtract 6 from 18. That equals 12. :)

    Too bad you don't have the videos organized with playlists. I was shocked to see there aren't any. It's just so basic youtube stuff.

    • @jewelsmesa9569
      @jewelsmesa9569 7 років тому +1

      Ciprian Hanga if you go to yaymath.org they have an area where the math is divided into areas (radicals, algebra 1 etc.) under the videos tab and on the page you can click "view this playlist on UA-cam" so that you can watch the playlists!
