I am a complete math bone head. I am recently going back to a community college to get my Associates degree. Watching your video's is very helpful and I am totally stoked for the kids that you teach. I only wish that I had someone like you when I was in school. It would have changed my outlook on math totally.
I came here from Easy Peasy All In One High School (I need to watch this video for Algebra) and I wondered why I was cringing at this and then I saw that this was published in 2013 and it makes sense now.
Another great entertaining and comprehensive video. One I will be featuring on the Passy's World of Mathematics free math help site in the near future. Well Done and YAY!!! math.
I didn't graduate from HS. Now I'm prepping for the GED. I have passed all subject except the math. I'm struggling so much. I still can't seem to understand the Slope or the slope intercept. If you have some free time can you please explain the slope from the beginning. I don't understand where the y or x comes from. This is so frustrating.
+Carmen Lugo Recommending learning the basics about the coordinate plate, from videos. Kahn Academy has great videos on slope. I'm a middle school student, so you can understand why I'm not giving you direct information on the topics you mentioned. Good luck.
hello i have a question about the problem at 12:55 i thought it was rise over run so wouldn't it be (y.x) so you actually got that wrong you put the 2 aka y on the x plane and the 3 on the y plane if i am wrong plz correct me
No no he's right. When you write points, for example (2,3), the 2 is x and the 3 is y. It's always (x,y) not (y,x). Rise over run however, is the Y on top and the X on bottom but that's the slope which is 1/2, not the point which is (2,3). Hope that makes sense.
Replying 5 months later... y=-x+b is implying that there is a negative 1 in front of the x, which is the same as saying -1/1. There is always a 1 in front of a variable and it doesn't have to be written because it's always implied. Any number times 1 is itself. The minus sign in front of the x is multiplying x by -1.
I'm not terrible at math but I also really dislike it. you explained this a lot better than my teacher did and really helped me because I have my MCA tomorrow
one of the problems you di was wrong. when you calculated the slope you reversed the y and y2 and made the whole answer wrong. i love your videos though. just had to point that out

thank you Robert!
Dude, you made this so simple. F-ing amazing teacher. yay
i love his videos!!!
Great job. Keep it up.
you sir are genius
you got that door thing fixed?
How did you get the slope of "-1/1" from the equation "y=-x+b"?
Replying 5 months later... y=-x+b is implying that there is a negative 1 in front of the x, which is the same as saying -1/1. There is always a 1 in front of a variable and it doesn't have to be written because it's always implied. Any number times 1 is itself. The minus sign in front of the x is multiplying x by -1.
thanks , i was kinda confused from that part as well

Did you manage to do it?
he's a better math teacher than mine
thanks!
Isn’t the second one supposed to be 3/3?
NovaFate no because he went DOWN 3 which makes it negative. Had he counted upwards it would be y = 3
