The RS3 and the M240i sound wonderful. Wish all small cars had such engines and such engine sounds. The Inline-4 is banal, boring and colourless.

@@cosmic_gate476 disagree, the current CLA45 amg sounds damn good with an exhaust. Not all 4 bangers sound bad. You can make many sound good with the right exhaust, not all though. And many of them sound better when they aren’t loud. CLA45 just sounds different in general, it doesn’t sound like every other 4 cylinder

You did not pull correctly the BMW on the 100-200! You need to start pull way before the 100 like the other two so the engine can be on the right rpm
agreed, started both R and RS3 at 70kmh but the M240i at 97kmh.. also where’s the S3 , A35 and A45S at in this video
Of course also the M240i was started at around 85 when doing the 100-200, same as for the other cars. It’s just cut off in this clip

Considering, that this is "only" the M240i, I am not sure if I am prepared for the upcoming M2 and maybe also M2 Competition, if they do it like they did with the current M3/M4. Even when they release it 2 years later, I think it will destroy everything in this class

The problem with the Golf R in Australia it is detuned all of the time.all 3 Mk 6 7 and 8.
but owning them in the past so easy to remap.now VW have put a stop to that. so i would not choose

Doing part of your review in another Audi may be confusing to other readers. I looked at all 3 of these cars. I have owned a MK6 Golf R, a 2017 Audi S3, and now due to a number of shortcomings on the RS3 a BMW 240i. Audi is dragging their feet on the US release and the stupid "Chicken Nugget" type shifter was a deal breaker for me. I cant see fiddling with that while trying to park or back out of a space quickly. That and the phony plastic rear facia. It is nice to see that I feel I made the right choice after seeing your reviews.

I think the M240 and RS3 are close enough where both will be enjoyable. The two things that would hold me back from picking the RS3 would be availability and price. I have a huge feeling these will be sold at above MSRP when they release in the US and factory orders will probably be non-existent since there is high demand for them. This is making me lean towards the more readily available and cheaper M240i.
yeah the new RS3 was my main choice for a new car but after looking into it, it'll be 2+ years before we see any of them in the states and they'll be coming over in small numbers, dealer markup will be insane and they'll be pushing 70k loaded to begin with. I ordered a M340i instead, just got finished with assembly
@@savannahkorben7353 Congrats, I recently went with the M240i myself. Couldn't bother to wait for the bad news for the Audi. Who knows though, could be wrong. But I've read plenty of good things about the BMW so it was enough to get me to place an order for one.
deswegen habe ich bei meinem RS 3 (2018) ne Stage 1 aufspielen lassen und jetzt macht er 8s von 100-200 :-)
Golf 8R ist für die 2 Liter und 320 ps im Vergleich zum Bmw m240i echt ein Brett.
Die Messungen 0-100/100-200 überragend, gegenüber was man eigentlich vom Bmw erwarten würde zu 3 Liter Hubraum und 374 ps..
Dazu der Golf mit Performance Paket fast 290 km/h schnell, diese auch auf’n Tachometer stehen und nicht wie beim bmw 260, dieser auch schon bei echten 243 km/h abriegelt..
Der Audi rs3 ist natürlich noch eine andere Nummer 💪👌
Die 8R streuen aber eben auch alle derbe nach oben....da hat kein einziges Model nur 320 PS ;)
Wenn ich das wieder lese.... Golf hat kleinere Felgen, keine 255/265 Schlappen auf HA und auch keine 200 kg Mehrgewicht, wie der BMW. Aber Gratulation. Wenn man keinerlei Ansprüche hat, dann findet man den Golf Klasse.
Man sollte auch nicht vergessen, dass VW und Audi sein stärkstes Pferd in diesem Segment zeigt, wobei BMW "nur" ein Zwischenmodell bringt.
@@iki8785 verglichen mit dem m240i schickt VW den M3 unter den Golf ins Rennen....
Außerdem, schaue mal auf die Tachometer beim Start. Der BMW hat da schon die schlechtesten Voraussetzungen, wenn ab 97 km/h der kickdown durchgeführt wird. Die anderen wurden viel früher beschleunigt.

I just picked up a 22 M240, and timed a 0-60 at 3.88 sec. 3.68 with 1 ft rollout using a dragy. I agree that the LC didn't function correctly during your test.

The Golf 8 R is something else. The gap between the older Rs3 and Golf R was way bigger.

@@Scythersmile1 the AWD and more HP on the RS3 would probably make it a consistently faster car under broader conditions. Its not going to be picky to perform like the 240i

Dear Automann: I´d say that press cars are always very much well prepared for tests and all kind of give-away-testings. Comparing Golfs 10.8s from 100-200 to the BMW´s 10.6 considering a 54hp and 80NM advantage towards the BMW may result in the question if the Golf is really stock...
That does seem to be the case, and it's easy to check. If you search through videos of press Golf Rs and compare them to customer Golf Rs there's a noticeable difference in performance. For example:

Consumer car: ua-cam.com/video/dEuiWcVMBAM/v-deo.html (12.7s quarter mile)
I would understand a difference of 0.1 or maybe 0.2 with big indulgence, but 0.4s is a significant difference.
For reference, carwow got 12.1s in the way more powerful A45s.
Cheating is becoming VW's second nature it seems.
@@xIcarus227 I don't think so. Consumers can actually buy the options they want for their car to be faster, just as companies like carwow demand specific options for their racing. Your self can do that. The GTI Clubsport actually has options of semi slicks in my country. There is no ideal or real world. The customer chooses the cars options as he wishes. Nothing stops customers from buying semi slicks, or optional performance packages. I would certainly buy that combo.
@@emiliospowerballer1441 semi-slicks won't account for a 0.4s difference in the quarter mile on an AWD car with a good launch control, that's just impossible.
It's pretty obvious that the press cars had way more power than the 320-350HP found in the normal version of the Golf R. The time suggests more like 380.
@@xIcarus227 The tires pretty much can make the difference. To begin, I just find it highly unlikely that some individual specifically ordered a more tuned version of a car while the rest of us didn't. Secondly, horsepower figures can be exact, but each car is different. Thirdly, manufacturers complain so much about tires, that they are willing to claim cheated Nurburgring lap times from others as it exactly happened between Porsche and Nissan, because Porsche got beaten. Tires play a major role, and a 0.5sec or less can easily be attributed to tires. Besides, the very same channel tested a Golf R with winter tires at 4.3sec. With so many car related channels, its impossible for VW to build a handful of tuned cars knowing they would actually lend them to youtubers to test them. Forthly, ALL manufacturers lie about performance times AND carbon emissions, VW is no different.
@@emiliospowerballer1441 once again, there's no way any semblance of a decent tire can make a 0.4s difference on an AWD car of this power compared to a top-end tire, period. It's just physically impossible to have that much slip on AWD unless you're using the shittiest tires known to man - which isn't the case, these cars come with good tires from factory.
Furthermore, nobody 'ordered' a better tuned version, VW simply gave press cars more power. The blue Golf you see in this video is a press car, it isn't owned by anyone.
Secondly yeah the same model can have differences from an exemplar to another, but not 40HP or greater as can be seen in this video. Every youtuber was dumbfounded by what times the press cars achieved with a supposed '320' HP. Now we're seeing that customer cars aren't achieving those numbers.
Why are you even arguing about there being a difference anyway? I thought the tire made all the difference, this tells me you're not convinced about your own arguments.
Thirdly, it's completely irrelevant how much manufacturers moan about tyres when it comes to lap times. We're discussing drag times, not circuit lap times. That's got its own problems where the likes of Audi think they can shoot the RS3 off the Nurburgring with a pro driver onboard and claim a 'record' even though its direct competitors had their laptimes set by press drivers which don't drive nearly as good. Probably one of the reasons the Civic Type-R held the record for a time too.
Fourth no other manufacturer that I know of gave press cars more power. And even if they did, it doesn't make it alright so VW still doesn't get a pass.
Evidence points to the fact that VW cheated to look better, just like they did with the emissions. Deal with it.
Do we know for certain? No, but evidence points towards it. Nobody dynoed the press cars and now they aren't evidently available anymore - not with the original tunes anyway.
The 240i has almost the same 100-200 as an E92 m3 , almost same size ,almost same pricing, an inline 6 like a real m3 .
Probably a more reliable engine and gearbox.
Basically this is the car buy.
Un fair test for the BMW M240i on both 0-100 as lunch control was not active, and 100-200 while you started accelerating on both other cars from below 80kmh , you started on around almost 97kmh on the BMW, I hope this test is not intentionally unfair .

Those credits this company uses is absolutely anti-consumer, considering an obd device is supposed to „liberate“ you in terms of software possibilities. So that‘s a huge no. It‘s like the EA of obd device manufactures.
i really love the Rs3 but i hate the dash how it displays the rpms going downwards instead of going up it's just odd but the new bmw and that rear wheel drive coupe experience nothing comes close you really feel as one with the car and the power

@@performancecars4835 'Some' tuner who mapped my mates said he's yet to see an 8R with more than 325bhp. These are customer cars - not the cars the journo's had. Like I said, funny that.
The Golf has the classier and more expensive looking interior in my opinion.
BMW would have definitely been much faster with a proper launch.
Same can be said with the rs3... winter tires + tire spin and not so ideal conditions. Summer tires = better 0-100 and 100-200 for sure. When My 2019 rs3 was stock, I was always able to get a 3.5-3.6 0-100 consistently so I reckon this can do atleast 3.3-3.4 in perfect conditions
@@_Ambition124 Absolutely. In another review in perfect conditions they got a 3.65 0-60 on the Audi. Just saying it would be more accurate in proper launch mode. Either way for me in the US we cannot even buy this one so I did get the M240 and living in cold climate the remote start is a really big deal.

not sure why but for the bmw he started the 100-200 at 93kmh , which gave it a huge disadvantage. the golf r he started it at 60kmh
The Golf R is the best for me, rs3 si better on the launch but the 4 cil revs better and the perfect sounding for the shifts, well the 240i instead of the six cilinder is the best acceleration but finally I prefer the golf R
The first golf R videos in the year they were very fast, 1/4mile in 12.3 in carwow videos, but now, since the customers have been getting their cars, now the time has dropped to 12.7, wonder if the first cars were faster for the car journalists haha, maybe a new run with a recent golf R would be cool to compare to your first tests. Another way to notice this, is in of the latest carwow videos comparing the new cupra leon to the golf R, on a rolling they were neck to neck, the golf being just marginally faster, but here a 10.8secs 100-200 says otherwise when compared to the mid 12s of the cupra, so probably customers golf R is around the high 11s which again is weird.
Nope, they are all the same, just depend on the condition of test, this on automan test are almost perfect condition, that is the reason why he have this time from 100-200kmh, car wow did two test, one 12.3 on 1/4, second was in bad condition 12.7 and from there they always put on screen 12.7 no metter is it faster or slower than 12.7.
@@trader2473 if that was the case, the golf R should destroy the cupra even on a roll, 10.8 to 12.5 is a huge difference, but they were neck to neck, so it is weird.

@@evaristocorripio5434 yep, but engine is not the same, small amount of people knows that only engine in Golf 8 R is the ea888 evo4, and all others include, cupra, gti clubsport, audi s3 are the ea888 evo3b engines, so they dont have the same engines like before, that is the reason why golf smash all this things inside VAG grupation, bc Golf have newest engine, and its so effective that power newer drops under 300hp, while on those evo3 and evo 3b engines power drops to 260 270hp when you change gears! For comparison, A45s amg with 421hp when changing the gears power drops to like 310 320hp, that is also reason why Golf R with just 320hp have good result compared to a45s and RS3.
