  • This Shimano TLD 15 was brought in with the customer saying it's been doing this since he purchased it brand new in the box. This is a rare occurrence, but can save you $$$$ by not changing/replacing perfectly good parts and pulling your hair out because it still isn't working. See below for helpful equipment and supply links. If you found this video useful, please show some love by hitting the thumbs up button and consider....

I, generally, use a ratcheting, interchangeable regular-sized screwdriver for the initial loosening of screws. Here's a link to the brand I use:

Get some additional, varying sizes Flathead and Phillips bits while you're at it.
The adjustable wrenches I use (instead of hex nut wrenches) are Husky, but these (with the red insert) work very well... 6-inch will be used the most:

Hey brother first off your videos are awesome and reel life savers ( like the word play there). I have several TLD 15’s I have used your videos and cleaned and lubed all of them. I just have one reel that is wonky . No matter what I do I continue to have problems when I engage the drag with the handle/crank binding up. I have checked the gears no missing broken teeth, I checked the pinion bearing and it seems fine (spins freely) no signs of stress damage. I have excellent free spool until I engage the drag and then return to free spool. That’s when it binds up and I loose free spool. I have noticed that if I push the spool to the left side plate it moves about a 1/8” and free spool returns. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong or what is broke. The other 2 reels went together flawlessly. Again thanks for your videos and any help!

Thanks for watching. Glad to hear the vids helped. Check the slot where your cross pin goes into on the non handle side. It may be a tight fit and need the sides shaved (go slowly and testing the feel as you go). Your pinion bearing may still be bad... you can't always tell by spinning it in your fingers.... it's under load that matters. Hope this helps.

Yo what’s up I have a tld 15 and I took off the drag cap once and now everytime I put it back on all of the drag works well except the free spool it’s just like the regular level drag just sorta lose. I took nothing else apart and it was working perfectly fine before I took it off. Any suggestions?

Thanks for watching. Yes, stay stunned for my TLD 15 video coming later this week. Skip to the end and pay close attention when I reinstall the lever assembly. Or, search UA-cam for "tsg reel service tld25" and watch the lever reinstall. Let me know how it goes.
