TLDs do well, ran them exclusively in my first 10 years of game fishing. The older Japanese models definitely last longer than the new ones. We have upgraded to tiagras for longevity. A black magic equaliser will also change the game
Absolutely agree regarding the NAMED BRANDS only. These companies have given us QUALITY, RELIABILITY which we expected as paying customers for over half a century. Now...... the market being infilled (happily by the likes of eBay and Amazon, etc) by Chinese " look - a - likes ", made TO MAKE THE SALE........period. l also have purchased too much junk ( baitcasters) and my opinion is that they are ' models ' of reels, many literally feeling like an Airfix model ! For real fishing, l use ABU, PENN, Shakespeare, Diawa and to be frank, l've never had a problem and this new Asian stuff was just a novelty, but they're not for real fishing.
Great videos mate. Just ordered a 615c barcrusher. I have 3 tld25’s and I changed the handles with some from eBay. They broke first trip out? Do you remember where u got the upgraded handle from? Poor man pays twice 😩
Hahhaha yeah you need to buy a decent one. I honestly can't remember but they were name brand power handles not super cheapo ones. Definitely makes the reel much better
Great video, very helpful and well presented, helped me out. I just purchased a Shimano Tyrnos 30 with backbone elite only used twice, only thing-it did not come with reel clamp,do you know if they can be purchased from tackle shops-thank you
The torque of the lower gear when trying to move big stubborn fish and the speed of higher gear on smaller fish, retrieving line etc. When you are hooked to a big Marlin some times you literally can't get a wind with high gear reels
most of my rods are pretty cheap, I like the Shimano backbone elite and ugly stick blue water game rods. they do the job just fine and are affordable. the longer handles are important for leverage and being able to hold big drag for stand up game fishing
@@BaitBallin would you happen to know what the rods are called that have more handle at the bottom? A family member destroyed all my old rods and reels .I do t have any and I'm stick in the middle of the country with no stores.i have to go online to look at stuff and I can't find jack with the reel plac ment up the handle more.
Hey bro this video was very useful I live in Tanzania and I’m thinking of getting the tld 50 lrsa for tuna and marlin and for a rod I have no idea but I think normal guides with a roller at the top what do you think Any advice
I'm looking at getting a set up for tuna fishing but I was looking at the tld 25/30 and a 50/80lb shimano tld stand up rod what would you recommend for either of those rods and reels? Thanks
Hey, the Shimano backbone elite rods are good value and match well to those reels. Just work out whether you want to go for guides or rollers. The fully rollered rods are really only for trolling and don't do well out on angles etc. So mainly I either use all guides Or rollers too only. With all guides you can still sue for live baiting etc.
@@BaitBallin ok thanks, the rod has all rollers but i havent really found any rods with just guides instead of rollers but thats probably because im shopping on mostly uk sites ill keep looking though, and with live baiting would you say the rollers are a no go?
Just bought a tld 30 and 50 for 50 each super clean
Can wait to start fishing

yeah these bloody TLDs won't die! once they do, they will definitely be replaced with tiagras... I will check out that Equalizer

Yep agree. My 5 year old tld reels are still going strong. Haven't even serviced the bloody things
Only problem with TLD25 is only 5kg of drag - Tyrnos is a much better buy as it can manage 10kg
Do you fish 100lb+ line on a #25?
I have safely ran up to 8 on the 25
You immediately answer my questions re Shimano 25. Thank you. But what to do with my Penn 500A? Is it a small game fish reel? Thank you.

No worries thanks mate. Yep tyrnos work well! I don't see them, you may have to order online. But I wouldn't let it worry U
just baught a tyrnosii 30 2 speed stoked to look for the monster blue fin biggest ive caught is 70 pound buy heading to tripple digget
awesome! yep 2 speed will do the job for sure
@@BaitBallin nice videos really informative
The Chinese reels probably expect you're going to fish for Ma Lin, instead of Marlin.
🤣
tld 50s actually have the same internals as a tiagra
The difference isn't the guts
Tld 25 still good reel caught crap load fish marlin tuna wahoo Spanish on mine have three them
Yeah my very first tld25 is still going! Prob 10 years old now and copped a thrashing over the years
Bro, you'll be waiting a long time for those TLD's to become dodgy lol
Yeah I thought my oldest one (11 years) just died, but I actually don't think it has. Just needs a service
What is the advantage with two speeds?
The torque of the lower gear when trying to move big stubborn fish and the speed of higher gear on smaller fish, retrieving line etc. When you are hooked to a big Marlin some times you literally can't get a wind with high gear reels
For your buck you cannot beat the Penn Senator - simple, inexpensive, and brick shit house strong.
I have never owned one but used several, yes certainly seem to last a long time also
I bought 2 80w Tiagra 2 years and I just bought 2 TLD30
I honestly haven't had a tld or tyrnos fail yet. And I treat them like crap 😂
Why is there more handle up the rod instead of at the bottom? What are the difference?

what's the brand and model of reel you are wanting to fit? so many different types of rods so would need you to provide more information

If you are running rod out wide with outriggers. Avoid roller tip. If not and for all other positions that will be fine. Good luck
Why no roller tip with out rigger?
Im new to big game fishing and buying at the moment stuff..pls respond why?🙏
When running rods on an angle, with line up to outrigger etc it often gets jammed between roller tip and side of rod tip
@@BaitBallin okay
thanks for responding 🙏

Easier without the rollers for sure. The rollers often rust and jam up so need constant maintenance. so I often go for roller tip only.
Do you recommend Mono or Braod for your outfits?
game fishing reels mono, all spin reels braid
Awesome. Thank you
Good video, thanks.
No worries!
Can you give an example of a non name brand reel?
I've tried many no name game reels and they all fell apart and exploded. Even the cheapest TLD range from Shimano out performs all of them
Wouldu recomend the tld25 for tops 6-8ft surf shark fishing.??
Yeah can work well, they don't cast very well though....
Would a shimano tdl 20 with 80 old line be able to bring in a marlin
you would need a fair bit of luck.....it's not really worth targetting marlin withou the right gear as it often ends ins the fishs favour
Is the tyranos a 50 or 30
50
Where do you buy the tld 25 reel handle upgrades?
eBay, search for Shimano reel power handle. Makes it a much much better reel
🤸😂😂
both
