The stabilizer, or warp stabilizer, analyzes unwanted movements that cause the video image to shake and attempts to compensate for them. This video helped me get started. Thank you! Somehow, I ended up with 30+ seconds of blank time before my video started. I dragged the elements back to the start of timeline. I missed one element though, and in the second minute of my video there is a blank space. I will keep learning.
Thanks for the feedback and happy it helped you. Normally there shouldn’t be a blank space, so you did it correctly to move it to the beginning and yes sometimes you have to move around a lot of elements 😅
You are welcome; maybe I am not doing everything right or the right way, but for me it is the easiest way without using shortcuts (more pro level then 😂)
Great video! Can you make a video tutorial on how to edit a scene shot with multiple cameras for example two cameras at different angles on a person being interviewed? I believe Resolve has a feature to sync the two video tracks and simultaneously display previews from both cameras and allow you to cut back and forth between the two preview displays as you play the videos.
First of all: thank you for watching my video and also thanks for your idea for a new DaVinci Resolve video. I will check it out and put it on my video idea list

Well explained tutorial. Very easy to follow. I have a question. I noticed that on the bottom-left corner you have to small windows "Toolbox" and "Dissolve". How do I enable those two options to show up on my screen?
First of all thank you so much for your follow 🤩. I really appreciate it. Secondly sure, on the right top you should have the button "Effects", I assume it is not active. Just click on it and then this toolbox window should appear. This button is right below your main menu on top, close to Trim / Timeline; it looks like a wand with stars around it. Another possibility is to check your Workspace Menu on the top "Show panel in workspace" and select "Effects or you simply also could reset your UI, also in the same menu appr. in the middle. Hope it helps 🙂 All the best!
Oh that is nice of you, I am happy when my videos help some people, if someone likes my content he or she can subscribe 🥰 - it helps me to grow indeed!
Hi thanks for your feedback and happy it helped; in regards to your missing menu; normally it should be there out of the box, never disappeared tbh here, you can try to go to the upper menu and select workspace and reset ui, this should reset your user interface to the default one; maybe there is also a point which is able to activate this menu again. I will check it afterwards, because I am currently not on my PC.

Thanks, this just saved me on a last minute project. But I am running into an issue lately where some of my audio (all of them are mp3) can't be imported in. Any solutions you might recommend fix the problem? Otherwise, great video!
Happy to hear that. Hmmm don‘t know about your mp3s, normally you can import it without any issues (at least it worked for me till now). Maybe you convert it before you import it with another tool? There should be some freeware tools out there 🤷♂️
Thanks for your feedback, happy to hear you enjoyed it. Already released another one where I describe how to use the proper framerates to include slow motion; also very beginner friendly and I am showing different options in a tutorial 👍
You can check the file on your computer in which frames you recorded the video on your phone. Right click and check the settings / attributes and then pictures per second or frames per second. You should find something like 24/25/30/60/120. Adjust your project settings accordingly, go with 30fps when the files are in 30fps, etc. Check out my other video about Slow Motion and Framerates; there I explain everything in detail 👍
Hello. Thank you for your presentation. I do have a question. I am a true beginner, trying to learn Davinci. After I follow your steps. I do NOT get the screens you are working from. I don't see the screen on the lower left showing Toolbox Column and the list below starting with Audio transitions. OR immediately beside TOOLBOX is Dissolve and the column below it. starting additive dissolve. On the upper right hand corner, your screen shows transform. How do I arrive at your screens?. Thank you for your help.
You‘re welcome. When there are not all elements, go to the menu on the top to Workspace; there you can find the Show… submenu items; there you can select Show Panel in Workspace and simply select media pool or effects. You can also click on the buttons on the top left, media pool or effects; when you highlight effects you see the toolbox and other stuff 👍 hope that helps 😊
Hi, thanks for your comment; You need to activate it at the top of DaVinci there are Icons, also one activates the toolbox or simply activate it in the top menu, it is called layout or view
Great start to the video but when I went to upload my video into the media pool, it asked me to access the folder then said unable to access the folder. My file is a .MOV file and I’m working on a 2015 MacBook Pro running iOS Sonoma. Is this normal? I’m so annoyed as I was finally taking the dive to learn video editing. I haven’t had issues with iMovie but it seems to be incredibly limited in its abilities.
I am not working on a MacBook but no it should work when the videos are not in 10bit in the free version; I would search for the error message; apparently you can not access the folder maybe you restricted it or you need permissions? I would check this out. Mov files work fine in 8bit I do it all the time with my iPhone files 🤷♂️
Hi, that is strange, normally it should work on this site: www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve - there you go to download, then choose your Operating System (Win, OSX or Linux), fill out the form with a correct emailaddress and then click the download link (check maybe your Spam folder).
Oh that is unfortunate, normally they should work. Ah maybe you have to strech them further into the video or maybe you need more of the sequence before and after the transition (means you must cut a small part), so that it works then. But in general it should work.
I use a Sony A7IV Full Frame camera, I made some reviews also for my lenses here, I use for my talking head the Sigma 16-28mm F2.8 most of the time on 24mm and for my travel shots the Sony 24-105mm F4.0 OSS.
I have no idea why there is black area before my timeline cursor. That makes no sense. Is that for some reason loading video before your video even starts?
Hi, sorry what do you mean? You refer to my first second or something like that? The fade in effect? This is just personal taste, there is no sense behind it 😁 you can also start your video directly 🤩
@@christianeggbauer im sure there is a reason for it but i just booted up davinchi resolve and threw a clip in the media pool. When i added the clip to the timeline instead of the clip being all the way to the left for the video start which makes sense, instead its in the middle and there is area to the left of the video start and can not figure out why or what the purpose of it is. I assume when i export the video, it wont have tons of minutes of just black and silence then my clip but start right away with my clip
@@maxstone9999 makes sense, I never thought about it just moved it all the time to the left 😅 could that there is a reason, I will research maybe there is something like you said
I have the free version and hardware acceleration does not show up for me to use my rtx 4080 under the encoder. Only gives me the option for auto and native. And yes I went into preferences and selected my gpu. Thanks for the help.
Try to update your GeForce driver or install not the gaming driver, install the studio driver which is optimized for video editing. I experienced that you rly need the newest driver in order to have no errors
@@christianeggbauer thanks. Just updated to the newest game driver and still doesn’t give me the option for the gpu under the encoder tab. Just auto and native. Is that feature locked behind the paid version to use the gpu for the encoder ?
That is a good point, as I just use the studio version I must check it out and try it in the free one if it shows it to me, coming back to you after I tested it or does anybody else knows it?
Apparently this is a free version studio thingy, I tried it out and it didn‘t show my graphics card, but when it is set to primary anyways in the computer settings auto should work 👍
First thanks for watching; second you mean in the export screen? Hmmm don‘t know never disappeared on my screen, maybe reset the interface or check in the top menu if you deactivated something?
@@jamroc626 this also happened to me; the reason could be that you forgot to delete something in the end during the edit or in a timeline there is something behind the video you didn’t delete; I would suggest test it and play it back from the last endpoint in the preview; when it doesn’t stop you know that there is something left; if it renders and stuck at 99% you should restart the program or your computer and try it again.
@@christianeggbauer Thanks for your response. I figured it it. I needed to delete the remaining gray line, just above the audio and video clips, in Deliver.
Hi Christian, When I dragged the video from my file, the DaVinci Resove ask "Grant Access Folder" and after click "Select file", I have to open file, select file and so on. I wont able to drag like you mention. And 2nd question is some of the picture (HEIC) are green. Why is that? I appreciate if someone can response for me.
Hi apparently you use a Mac, for the permission you must grant it somehow in macOS, google for it please as I have no Mac; also the green heic files are a problem of DaVinci 18.6.5, according to an online post with 19 this issue should be gone 🤞 hope that helps 😄
@@christianeggbauer i'm pretty sure the file is in mp4 format but there isn't the cone thing on it. i'm guessing that could be the problem but i'm not entirely sure why or how to add it on.
I already did 😄 at least showing you how to use easily DaVinci, there are 4 more videos out there, slow motion and framerates, zooming effects, cinematic black bars and recently i published speed ramps 😃🎥 so feel free to check them out and I will continue to publish others as well 💪
My videos apparently aren't loading into davinci. Is there a fix for this? I dragged and dropped a mp4 video and there's no background image. When I try to play it, the software freezes and i have to close it. I've waited like 5 minutes for the 63mb file.
Hi, that is unfortunate. It seems that you are using 10bit instead of 8bit. 10bit files can not be used with he free version. This was one reason why I bought the Studio. Normally if you don‘t shoot in log and do a lot of color grading 8bit is enough. If this is not your problem maybe reinstall DaVinci again?
Hey, I am using a windows 10 and 11 PC, usually on Mac you should use the *.mov format. It also can be that you are working with 10Bit files? Davinci resolve Free is only able to handle 8Bit files, or it is restricted, this was one of the reasons why I bought the studio version (although I use most of the time 8Bit, because I am too lazy to color grade SLOG3 haha). But I assume 8Bit Files should be possible to be imported on a Mac as well, my Sony camera produces mp4s 🤷♂️, maybe another Mac User can help you out on this here? Last option I see is to transform them to *.mov with a video converter, but this would be too much effort
@@christianeggbauer my video is 8bit and it won't work either. I can bring it in the Master but there isn't a preview nor can I play it. I can see the details though. I've changed the properties to match the video as well. I'm stumped. And frustrated. Been using Blender 3D because that's all I know.
@@simply_the_dev7588 try to install DaVinci again, maybe also update your graphic cards driver; it also could be that another program is causing this probs 🤷♂️ don‘t no, never faced this issues mate

Hey buddy you are doing really good after a long time I have seen such a informative video for beginners. God bless you always.
Hey there, awesome, that makes me very happy, thanks for your comment! 👍
love this video. you helped me a lot
Awesome, good to hear; thanks for this feedback and happy it helped, check also out my other DaVinci tutorials when you want to deep more into this editing tool
Thanks a lot Christian, this video was very helpful to me than all the videos I've seen
Awesome, great to hear; thanks for watching and if you are interested in more I‘ve already published more on my channel 🤩
Good simple basics Christian of DaVinci. Long time user of Premiere, but wanting to switch and start just editing home videos. Cheers!
Thank you so much, I really tried to create it for beginners, so there is not a huge barrier to entry. If it helps you and others, I will be happy and it motivates me to produce more advanced ones 😅. Have fun editing your home videos, I enjoy it very much using DaVinci Resolve. It is stunning how powerful this tool is, even in the free version!
Glad your's vid is the simplest to understand da Vinci 👏👏👏.. Especially for me.. 👍👍👍🙏
Thank you so much for this nice comment 👍 glad you liked it and it is easy to understand; all the best 😁
Using this to help me currently 😊
Love to hear that, there a two more out currently slow motion and zooming tutorials, enjoy and all the best 👍

Very informative 👍
Thank you so much!
A beautiful and simple tutorial. So many bigger channels try but miss, at least they have for me. Out of the ones I have seen so far this is the first one that has me wanting to get to my computer to try my first video. Hope more people catch on to you.

Great tutorial!

@@christianeggbauer Awesome! I had experience with Adobe Premiere for 10 years but now I wanted to try something different and it looks that Davinci is the answer! My pc resources also dont take to much instead of Premiere.
@@JanboArtLV yes, but I think Davinci needs also a lot of ressources when you do more stuff like effects or fusion stuff; when you check out my zoom tutorial you also see, when I use some effects, that it lags

Awesome, happy your are happy 😁
Great, thanks very much, very helpful!
You are welcome, glad it helped 🤩
Thanks, this just saved me on a last minute project. But I am running into an issue lately where some of my audio (all of them are mp3) can't be imported in. Any solutions you might recommend fix the problem? Otherwise, great video!
Happy to hear that. Hmmm don‘t know about your mp3s, normally you can import it without any issues (at least it worked for me till now). Maybe you convert it before you import it with another tool? There should be some freeware tools out there 🤷♂️
Thank you for this video, simple and to the point
Thanks for your feedback, happy to hear you enjoyed it. Already released another one where I describe how to use the proper framerates to include slow motion; also very beginner friendly and I am showing different options in a tutorial 👍
Super helpful, thanks a lot

How do I know what timeline I need? the video files I will be using will be mostly shot with my iPhone?
You can check the file on your computer in which frames you recorded the video on your phone. Right click and check the settings / attributes and then pictures per second or frames per second. You should find something like 24/25/30/60/120. Adjust your project settings accordingly, go with 30fps when the files are in 30fps, etc. Check out my other video about Slow Motion and Framerates; there I explain everything in detail 👍
This helps me alot!
Glad to hear, thank you for watching 🤩

@@christianeggbauer Thank you so much for getting back to me.

what simple tutorials ... 😍😍
Thank you, happy that it helped and it was simple enough 😄
On the lower left you have the "toolbox", I dont have that , why could that be? Thank you in advance 👃
Hi, thanks for your comment; You need to activate it at the top of DaVinci there are Icons, also one activates the toolbox or simply activate it in the top menu, it is called layout or view
Thank you!
Sure you‘re welcome 💪
Awesome video, keep up the good work!
Thank you so much I will, just released the next video today: DaVinci Resolve Slow Motion and Framerates easy tutorial 👍
@@christianeggbauer Nice, looking forward to it!
This was a great video! thank you! I'm coming from using premiere so this is pretty different. I'm thankful for easy to understand videos like this.
You‘re welcome; I am glad that it helps 👍
I would love to download this program, but it seems impossible. All I get is adverts,
Hi, that is strange, normally it should work on this site: www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve - there you go to download, then choose your Operating System (Win, OSX or Linux), fill out the form with a correct emailaddress and then click the download link (check maybe your Spam folder).
You are probably looking at the top of the webpage. You need to scroll down a bit to see the download buttons
Sir some of the transitions are not working for me it is showing black screen
Only few of them are working
Oh that is unfortunate, normally they should work. Ah maybe you have to strech them further into the video or maybe you need more of the sequence before and after the transition (means you must cut a small part), so that it works then. But in general it should work.
@@christianeggbauer oh sir thanks i will try it
Sure, please come back here and describe your problems in detail so maybe I can help you further and reproduce it somehow
Sir I can mail you my problem with photo
generally i am not doing this but send it to yt(ad)christianeggbauer.com so I can have a look at it@@AdityaTanajiBiradar
Thank you
Sure, always happy when it helped ❤️ thanks for watching 👌
what camera do you using?
@@christianeggbauer thanks man appreciate it
Apparently this is a free version studio thingy, I tried it out and it didn‘t show my graphics card, but when it is set to primary anyways in the computer settings auto should work 👍
your screen looks different then mine. I don't see where I can change the format of the video.
First thanks for watching; second you mean in the export screen? Hmmm don‘t know never disappeared on my screen, maybe reset the interface or check in the top menu if you deactivated something?
When it renders, it renders way past the video clips. How do I resolve that issue?
@@jamroc626 this also happened to me; the reason could be that you forgot to delete something in the end during the edit or in a timeline there is something behind the video you didn’t delete; I would suggest test it and play it back from the last endpoint in the preview; when it doesn’t stop you know that there is something left; if it renders and stuck at 99% you should restart the program or your computer and try it again.
@@christianeggbauer Thanks for your response. I figured it it. I needed to delete the remaining gray line, just above the audio and video clips, in Deliver.
@@jamroc626 awesome, great
Hi Christian, When I dragged the video from my file, the DaVinci Resove ask "Grant Access Folder" and after click "Select file", I have to open file, select file and so on. I wont able to drag like you mention. And 2nd question is some of the picture (HEIC) are green. Why is that? I appreciate if someone can response for me.
Hi apparently you use a Mac, for the permission you must grant it somehow in macOS, google for it please as I have no Mac; also the green heic files are a problem of DaVinci 18.6.5, according to an online post with 19 this issue should be gone 🤞 hope that helps 😄

the things i import won't load so it doesn't let me edit it or anything and it also doesn't show. does anyone know how do fix this?
Hi, which file formats? Are you using 10bit then it is not possible to edit it in the free version.
@@christianeggbauer i'm pretty sure the file is in mp4 format but there isn't the cone thing on it. i'm guessing that could be the problem but i'm not entirely sure why or how to add it on.
we need a seris of this topic
@@christianeggbauer it's 8 bit, i checked. I can see the details on the right side and it says 8.
I installed this version of resolve. But i cant import the MP4 file on my MAC. Please help me brother ❤
@@christianeggbauer I reinstalled it and still the same. I will check my graphics card now. I can move the file into the windows and such but can't play it nor is there a background image. Yea no one seems to have this issue.
