I love the parallels to the actual myth of Hou Yi from Chinese mythology. Like of course there's the surface level stuff of Hou , the archer who shot down nine of the ten suns, but when you make that connection at the start of the game you assume Yi would be the tenth sol (sun) that remains after killing the other nine. Instead, Yi shoots himself down, allowing the remaining tenth sol (Kuafu) to nurture Humanity just as the tenth sun does in the original myth. Not to mention the fact that the infected primordial root with its tentacles literally looks like a sun, and Yi shoots it with his bow to allow the real sun to shine on the Earth and support Humanity. So goated.
I was surprised that RedCandle made this game, their two prior games were top-tier psychological horror games that didn’t really have any combat at all, but they absolutely NAILED their first action game. People praise this game's visuals and gameplay. which is really fair, but I need to listen to more people talk about the story. Actually left me in tears and all the themes are very thought provoking; it has a few undisclosed bits and holes, but they're practically irrelevant and they weren't afraid to support what was strong about the writing instead of scrambling to bandaid what wasn't necessary or weaker.
@@VietDang-yk1yt Being specific, it's really well balanced for that point in the game. It's one of my favorite midway boss fights ever. As long as you have traveled to Asia, you will know that the atmosphere of this game is neither Hong Kong, Japan, nor China, but because of history, Taiwan as a whole is closely related to the above countries. I think only an artist who lived or grew up in Taiwan could make something like this weird, anti-minimalist, dystopian, steampunk, yet full of Taoist elements. 😂 (Bizarre but unique) TaoPunk is indeed a very unforgettable style. everyone should go to Taiwan to experience it if you have the chance.
I agree, Taiwan is indeed a country that is both traditional and cyberpunk, high technology but also spirituality. Their art style is a more old school than Japan, but I like it.
Honestly though, the art style reminds me more of Buddhist temples in Taiwan, even if the underlying philosophy of the art is taoist. Taoist temples tend to be much more extravagant and extremely decorated. Feels more like a minimalist take on taoist art style.
I was not expecting to get emotional at the end when yi reads the last letter from her sister or during true ending. It's nothing unique but i haven't seen this genre of games having a good active story
I feel bad for Kaufu now. He is now the last of his species. And if what Yi says is true, then the virus is something in all Solarians. That means he doesn't have much time either.
yeah eventually all Solarians will die And that gave rise to humans on Earth. In the ancient myth of Chinese culture, ShuanShuan refers to Shuan(Xuan) Yuan, who was the leader of the first human tribe.
The best part is that the Tianhuo research logs state that without the Tianhuo genes of Fusang (the roots), Solarians just develop into animals with much shorter lifespans (heavily implied to be literal housecats). My headcanon is that Kuafu finds some way to clone himself but without the Tianhuo gene, giving rise to the housecats that persist in Human society :D
I just realised, Yi was likely made in likeness to Huo Yi, a figure form a legend who shot down 9 suns to save humans from being scorched, leaving only one so that humanity could live This could reference how Yi shot down the sols including himself (Goumang, YanLao, JieQuan, Lady Ethereal, Ji, The Fengs, EiGong and Yi add up to 9, plus the game is literally called nine sols), leaving Kuafu as the final Sol or Sun to take care of the apemen

Almost all of HKs mechanics and concepts are from things decades older than itself. But if something goes viral and gets popular that becomes the new point of comparison.
Hollowknight has tons of recognition...And Silksong is one of the most anticipated games and has been for years straight. Literally on the top lists. Metroidvanias are absurdly popular. Combat seems puddle deep (even though its decent) and the attacks/hits just don't carry a lot of punch and impact. Idk how to better describe it, but compared to hollowknight combat it just feels extremely floaty here especially when WATCHING. Which is important because these days people will watch something before deciding if they'll try it. And if it just doesn't look good, they'll never even try it in the first place regardless of how decent it might be. There also just isn't as much content as hollowknight. Most people finish HK and are usually between 60-70% total completion. Having missed tons of bosses and content along the way. Whereas the achievements on this game, are EXTREMELY high percentage completed. Hollowknight still has a few achievements with under 10-5% even all these years later. The LOWEST percentage achievement in this game is 14%. Which means a casual run is getting A LOT of people 100% completion without much effort. And that's exactly why THIS game specifically just doesn't get as much traction.
I think the opposite honestly. I personally hate the art style and think its a massive reason as to why its not getting as popular as the other games in the same genre. Along with the combat just not really having a lot of impact. At least not from watching it, combat seems pretty hollow compared to Hollowknight. AND it costs $10 more.

AbsRad being better than Eigong is a terrible take. AbsRad is a bunch of chaos which emphasizes luck. Not even close to the best boss in Hollow Knight. Easily behind Sisters and NKG. Eigong is the best 2D boss of all time.

The former is one of the core things that make the game stand out and something you don't see very often in this kind of game... but to each their own I guess.
Peak gaming experience
Npc moment
Perhaps putting the game name in the title and when livestreaming would help
this is my game of the year
Yes keep the Nine Sols love coming 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Every nine sols discord Im in is freaking out rn
I got nostalgia for this game before I even finished it
congrats on 16m brooooooooooo
I bet it will get more attention when/if they release it to console. One of the very few games I’m dying to play that’s not on console.
You should try out Rain World, i know that one guy in chat a couple years ago that spammed telling you to play it might have influenced your opinion on it. But, it is a very good game, the dlc came out and it has another on the way. I know getting recommendations for games is quite annoying at times, but take this as a reminder that it does exist and if you find a care to play it im sure the fanbase would love the recognition your channel brings to the lesser known games.
2:12:29 Annnnnnd that image is haunting...

I am really happy to see people play this game this is incredible
29:40 Got that immersive world experience
Hope you made it out the “hurricane” ok
"Hope" "you" "made" "it" "out" "of" "the" "hurricane" "ok"
No need to thank me for recommending this to you charles
4 hours is crazy
hold a speedrun challenge for this game
loved to see you play this, I hope it wins indie GOTY because it absolutely deserves it!!
I definitely found this game way harder than hollow knight, but to each their own. Nice dub charlie
Was watching this game ever since they dropped their demo since the combat in it was tight af, and damn the devs pulled through hard. Such a good game
Love your videos man,Thanks for the great content!❤
the healing talisman is GREAT cuz u mostly spam the ability its a great sustain
AbsRad being better than Eigong is a terrible take.
AbsRad is a bunch of chaos which emphasizes luck. Not even close to the best boss in Hollow Knight. Easily behind Sisters and NKG.
Eigong is the best 2D boss of all time.
Good take. I like AbsRad but true Eigong is a tier above.
@@M3TH0DICAL7he didn’t even fight abs rad lol, he fought regular rad.
I do think abs rad is harder than eigong atleast in beating it consistently but eigong is significantly better as a boss
I do think sisters of battle and nightmare king are better than eigong though with pure vessel falling short behind
Just beat this game the other day .Freaking awesome game that just popped out of nowhere. 9/10 just a hint behind hollow knight and sekiro. Hopefully they make more.
If you ate a piece of his hair would it give you magical powers ?
im so glad more people are playing this game its so good
This is probably in my top5 games of all time
