None of these solutions will work if you insert the SD card and absolutely nothing happens but in the beginning of the video you stated that these solutions could fix that problem because it was in your list of possible problems. You can't scan a card that's not showing on your computer, you can't re-assign a drive letter for a drive that isn't showing that it even exists. None of these solutions are even possible if the drive isn't showing in the computer.
yeah this is my issue. I'm using a USB card reader and I've tried a couple other micro sd cards and they all read fine except for the one card that made me find this video. The other cards appear normally in "My Computer" however the one I'm having difficulties with, appears greyed out as if the computer detects a device is in the drive but cant read or access it. I attempted each solution in the video but alas none of them work. Even tried formatting but that doesn't work because the computer can't read or access the card :(

Every UA-cam channel that makes money does this. It is just to connect with people who attend the videos often. This is pretty typical and is what gets people interested. You may just need to get better at skimming informational videos my dude instead of being salty.
Here is my tip: Most card readers have a switch on the left side (see the grey switch on the side at 6:57). Just move it down and insert once, then move back to the original up position and reinsert. Only this worked for me after trying various solutions for an hour, so maybe it could work for you too.

I don't understand why this video is called "How to Fix SD Card Not Detected..." when in this video the sd card actually shows up. 3:08 in disk management the disk is shown in this video. 3:55 you have to type in the drive letter of your sd card that is not showing up (How to do this?) 4:24 you have to update the driver of the device that is not showing up (I have one sd card that's show up here and another that doesn't)
Extra tip: I would recommend opening it with Rufus and formating it to non-bootable. I had issues with SD cards (and pendrives) after they were formatted to bootable drives - they wouldn't be properly recognized by windows afterwards. Would only be able to reformat them to non-bootable with special software like Rufus (that's meant to create bootable media).

Your first advice, of making sure the SD Card is not loose, actually fixed my issue. My Phone SD Frame is broken and sometimes after inserting it into my phone it doesn't settle in perfectly. After securing it with a layer of adhesive tape, it was fixed. Many Thanks.

I think you forgot one of the main reasons people can't read micro sd cards on PC's. Most devices which use Micro cards ( like dash cams) use only Fat32 system, and yet PC's today all use NTFS. That is the problem. These days it seems Windows 10 is constantly updating and that always seems to change things within disk management in particular to all these removable device drives.
Yes, unprotect supposedly helps recognize it sometimes. Then adding files or working with it and pc knows to expect it due to it being added to its registry.

simple tip: if you have no important data on your SD card and if you cannot see the SD card in 'This PC' but you can see it in 'Disk Manager', simply 'delete Volume' by right clicking on the disk in 'Disk Manager', then right click on it again and create 'New Volume'. follow the process pops up and install and choose the letter and format type, press next. then take out the SD card, restrat the PC and insert it again. then refresh the 'This PC' page then you SD appears there.

Above all else, make sure your laptop is fully updated. Non of the software fixes were working, so I was going to start buying USB SD drives. I was at a loss. I then went to check the time and see if I could make it to a store and noticed that Windows was pending updates requiring a restart. Needless to say, I restarted the computer and retried in a final last ditch effort. It worked! With that said, it was still very informational very helpful. I learned a lot and I think I could assist if an altercation with an SD card occurred. Thank you for making these troubleshooting videos!
Another tip: Dirty SD card gold contacts can make unreadable by PC's SD card slot. Use isopropyl alcohol and q-tip to clean its gold contacts. This trick works for me.

I like how you bring up that the sd card can be physically damaged, claim that "all these cards are easily recoverable", and then never go back to what you can do if the card is physically damaged. If the card is physically damaged, there probably isn't anything you can do, but you don't include anything for testing to see if the card is damaged (the damage may not be apparent on inspection) or not. Complete waste of time.
So what do you do, when you know the port is good (other cards detect just fine) but when this one in question is inserted, Disk management hangs, windows explorer hangs, and programs that access the file system hangs. Pull the card back out, and windows explorer unhangs, disk management unhangs and everything goes back to normal. Plug the card back in and everything hangs again. It's not a new card, its 128gb in size (and its authentic) It's about 8 months old, and has not been accessed for about 6 months.
It has never worked to simply pull things out and plug them back in for any computer I have owned. If Windows 10 cannot detect one camera card it probably means it cannot detect other camera cards until after another update.
When i run the chkdsk d: /f command, it gives me "cannot open volume for direct access." - The computer recognizes that there is an SD card there, but telling me theres nothing on the card. However when I open the card on my cousins apply laptop, it runs no problem.
PLEASE HELP!!! Great tutorial. However, I was not able to recover the data on my SD card so far. Just purchased the program and run it on my laptop. On the SD card driver selection, it says "Lost 1 partition", however it also says that I still have over of 29GB of data on the SD card. The most annoying thing during the scan is that about every 2-3 minutes it pauses and brings this window by saying: "there are many bad sectors in the disk that scan cannot continue. It is recommended that you restore the currently scanned files asap", and it's only 2% of all scan complete. Yet, I don't see any files listed to Recover. Please HELP...!!!! You've missed one important issue which you did not cover. The SD card reader itself. Prusa isn't using the best quality reader. Seems the metal prongs that make contact with the SD card's contact points become bent, rendering the reader useless. Rather than ordering a new one from Prusa, (unplug the printer), shine a flashlight (it's easier to just take the LCD card out of the case) into the SD card reader slot to see which prong/s are bent. Take a narrow metal tool and bend the prong back to the original position, like the other prongs within the reader.
assigning drive letter worked! By the way, if the "change drive letter " is greyed out, make sure you unlock the "readonly" switch on the side of the sd card, and voila! Thanks a million!
That's not the point, the method of changing the drive letter can't be done since the whole point is the drive isn't showing up. So this method isn't actually a method for this purpose to begin with, which makes many of the other methods un-usable.
@@TheMunkeeBone I think the card has become unusable due to a hardware issue like a spike or might have run its course. Replacement only would be the solution as the card cannot be accessed at all. It's as good as no card. 😔

no mater what device i used Mobile or PC or anything it will not be Detected it's like there no sd card at all and it was working 100% in my old Mobile but after a year i try to teak the Data from it will not be detected
At 3:03 you say "find out which of all these devices is your SD card". What? If the SD card showed up then I would not need to watch your video. The card does not show up, so I cannot assign a drive letter. It shows up on my other PC running the same Windows 10 immediately without issue. I'm about to throw away all my windows garbage machines and buy a mac.
My problem is there is no recognition that a card is in the reader slot or a brand new USB3 card reader is connected. When I first plugged the USB3 in with an SD Card it didn't work, I re-started the laptop it worked. Next time it didn't work and hasn't worked since. So I can't use an external drive for re-start. the Laptop is 3year old Lenovo Yoga 500.

An interesting problem I discovered was that some of the devices I had plugged into the other USB ports were using too much power. When I removed all the unneeded USB connections my SD card reader suddenly started working again.

I actually tried formatting my SD card more than 10 times, yet unfortunately the issue is still present. My real problem is that the video still plays BEFORE I transfer it into the SD card but AFTER I transferred it, the video doesn't play anymore. Plus, the transfer speed is just a miniscule 355 kbps on average so is it possible to solve this issue (as well as increase the transfer speed)? Thank you. I no longer have to have an sd reader plugged in via USB. I had to open up Disk Management and assign a drive letter to get a specific SD card to work. Other cards worked and this one even worked in a usb sd reader so I knew it must be something in windows.

at cmd prompt if your card is not detectable...you will get ( cannot open volume for direct access) Recover it .... could not find it, possible new name for the product. if a virus has infected it you cannot scan the disk to check missing information or malware.

A question: Dell Chromebook detects external SD card, USB drives, but in the Settings the option called "External Storage Preferences" unavailable in "Storage Management". Well, I finally made it to the disk management and when I look below, It shows disk 0, which is the hard drive for the computer and below it, it says disk one removable and a letter (D) beside it and says no media below it. For some reason it is just not recognizing the card, but it does recognize the card in a way. Because when I pull the card reader out containing the 32 gb SD card, it disappears. The USB works because it shows my thumb drive when I plug it in and it comes up in the Disk Management and shows the size. Any tips or suggestions? Thanks.
What do you do if the built in SD card reader (desktop tower) works perfectly in a Windows 7 installation (separate boot) and in a Windows 10 installation it disapears shortly after boot (like a minute or so) and isnt even there in the device manager after that ?. If the card is inserted and the computer is booted it is recognised and i can access the files, but the drive and filewindow just disapears shortly after that. Its obviously not a hardware problem since the hardware is exactly the same, but something related to Windows 10.
I had another go at this today and if you check view hidden devices it shows up as "Genereic storage device USB device" but it shows code 45 which means that its not connected to the computer, but it clearly is and still works perfectly in Windows 7. I can get it to work perfectly in Windows 10 if i disconnect and reconnect the card readers connector to the motherboard and it will work until the computer is rebooted then its the same problem, it disappears after about one minute (the computer even makes a sound then). Opening the desktop tower and disconnect and reconnect the reader to the motherboard is clearly not a solution of course.

Can you advise on issues with SD cards used in the car infotainment system? I have a VW Golf mk7. I’ve been using the same SD card for music for the last 12 months with no issues. However, I took the card out to add more songs last week (which I’ve done many times before) and the system now says ‘unable to read SD card’. I’ve changed the format and it’s still not working. My laptop and phone recognizes all my other cards, and I even used different adapters, but to no avail. I tried using Autopsy as well. The entire system acted like that specific card didn't even exist, but every other card was fine. I'm starting to wonder if that card is fried, or that fine line across the card is more than just a fine line.... I'm worried it's cracked or broken.... Had my pictures in there and everything.... 😭

After a long time, and checking out the smaller SD slot, I realized that one of the pins of the lector was damaged, so it wont ever work =(
its just won't show in the system, like its not connected to the computer

I like how you bring up that the sd card can be physically damaged, claim that "all these cards are easily recoverable", and then never go back to what you can do if the card is physically damaged.
If the card is physically damaged, there probably isn't anything you can do, but you don't include anything for testing to see if the card is damaged (the damage may not be apparent on inspection) or not. Complete waste of time.
So what do you do, when you know the port is good (other cards detect just fine) but when this one in question is inserted, Disk management hangs, windows explorer hangs, and programs that access the file system hangs. Pull the card back out, and windows explorer unhangs, disk management unhangs and everything goes back to normal. Plug the card back in and everything hangs again. It's not a new card, its 128gb in size (and its authentic) It's about 8 months old, and has not been accessed for about 6 months.
It has never worked to simply pull things out and plug them back in for any computer I have owned. If Windows 10 cannot detect one camera card it probably means it cannot detect other camera cards until after another update.
When i run the chkdsk d: /f command, it gives me "cannot open volume for direct access." - The computer recognizes that there is an SD card there, but telling me theres nothing on the card. However when I open the card on my cousins apply laptop, it runs no problem.

PLEASE HELP!!! Great tutorial. However, I was not able to recover the data on my SD card so far. Just purchased the program and run it on my laptop. On the SD card driver selection, it says "Lost 1 partition", however it also says that I still have over of 29GB of data on the SD card. The most annoying thing during the scan is that about every 2-3 minutes it pauses and brings this window by saying: "there are many bad sectors in the disk that scan cannot continue. It is recommended that you restore the currently scanned files asap", and it's only 2% of all scan complete. Yet, I don't see any files listed to Recover. Please HELP...!!!! I need some advice on what to do. I need to recover this data. I would really appreciate your guidance on what to do next. Thank you
same problem, so i have decided to give my pen drive to data recovery companies, they re expensive but probaby their technical expertise can get back my data, hope for the best
You've missed one important issue which you did not cover. The SD card reader itself. Prusa isn't using the best quality reader. Seems the metal prongs that make contact with the SD card's contact points become bent, rendering the reader useless. Rather than ordering a new one from Prusa, (unplug the printer), shine a flashlight (it's easier to just take the LCD card out of the case) into the SD card reader slot to see which prong/s are bent. Take a narrow metal tool and bend the prong back to the original position, like the other prongs within the reader.

Dude, if the sd card isn't showing up, the we can't type in the drive letter in cmd because it doesn't show anything sd card.
Hi Munkee, that is why we have shared other methods as well. You can try out those.
That's not the point, the method of changing the drive letter can't be done since the whole point is the drive isn't showing up. So this method isn't actually a method for this purpose to begin with, which makes many of the other methods un-usable.
@@TheMunkeeBone I think the card has become unusable due to a hardware issue like a spike or might have run its course. Replacement only would be the solution as the card cannot be accessed at all. It's as good as no card. 😔

Thank you for your question. To fix a USB drive not showing up on your computer, please try restarting your computer or plugging it into a different USB port. Check Disk Management for the drive and assign a drive letter if needed. Hope it could help you.
no mater what device i used Mobile or PC or anything it will not be Detected it's like there no sd card at all and it was working 100% in my old Mobile but after a year i try to teak the Data from it will not be detected

At 3:03 you say "find out which of all these devices is your SD card". What? If the SD card showed up then I would not need to watch your video. The card does not show up, so I cannot assign a drive letter. It shows up on my other PC running the same Windows 10 immediately without issue. I'm about to throw away all my windows garbage machines and buy a mac.

My problem is there is no recognition that a card is in the reader slot or a brand new USB3 card reader is connected. When I first plugged the USB3 in with an SD Card it didn't work, I re-started the laptop it worked. Next time it didn't work and hasn't worked since. So I can't use an external drive for re-start. the Laptop is 3year old Lenovo Yoga 500.
Hi John, are you using the USB3 card reader on your USB3 port? Please try updating the SD/USB drivers and check if that fixes the issue.

An interesting problem I discovered was that some of the devices I had plugged into the other USB ports were using too much power. When I removed all the unneeded USB connections my SD card reader suddenly started working again.
Changing the drive letter helped me finally after trying foru hours other methods! THANKS!

I actually tried formatting my SD card more than 10 times, yet unfortunately the issue is still present. My real problem is that the video still plays BEFORE I transfer it into the SD card but AFTER I transferred it, the video doesn't play anymore. Plus, the transfer speed is just a miniscule 355 kbps on average so is it possible to solve this issue (as well as increase the transfer speed)? The SD card is a white Sandisk 128gb & I've been dealing this problem for months.

My SD card reader only works on start. Restarting the computer also works, but it'll never read the card when the computer is on. Thoughts?

If the chkdsk method doesn't work for you, try to change the SD Card drive letter first and/or try different ports of usb

i just updated the software, and I've been watching one video earlier and after that all my files on sd card are gone (even the sd card) .. i removed it on the tray and tried to reboot but nothing happens. it doesn't showw "preparingg sd card"
keep downloading new photos off my memory card using a card reader/ plugged into the MacBook. Then suddenly It doesn't read the latest ones off it. Nothing changed, and I can see them on the cam. Strange

I had to open up Disk Management and assign a drive letter to get a specific SD card to work. Other cards worked and this one even worked in a usb sd reader so I knew it must be something in windows.

It suddenly stopped working during file transfer to the card, the card is also brand new.
at cmd prompt if your card is not detectable...you will get ( cannot open volume for direct access) Recover it .... could not find it, possible new name for the product. if a virus has infected it you cannot scan the disk to check missing information or malware.

A question:
Dell Chromebook detects external SD card, USB drives, but in the Settings the option called "External Storage Preferences" unavailable in "Storage Management". Does that mean it is not supported? Checked online many websites, UA-cam, couldn't find anything related to that menu option being unavailable.

none of these fixes worked sadly, but recoverit found what seems to be all my data on my sd card, but it's gonna be a pain renaming all the files that lost their name.
I tried the command prompt but it says that the folders on Android are entirely unreadable. I also tried to change its drive letter but I can't click on any of the disks displayed. I don't want to format my SD card because there's a lot of important things stored. What do I do? Please help😢

Well, I finally made it to the disk management and when I look below, It shows disk 0, which is the hard drive for the computer and below it, it says disk one removable and a letter (D) beside it and says no media below it. For some reason it is just not recognizing the card, but it does recognize the card in a way. Because when I pull the card reader out containing the 32 gb SD card, it disappears. The USB works because it shows my thumb drive when I plug it in and it comes up in the Disk Management and shows the size. Any tips or suggestions? Thanks.

What do you do if the built in SD card reader (desktop tower) works perfectly in a Windows 7 installation (separate boot) and in a Windows 10 installation it disapears shortly after boot (like a minute or so) and isnt even there in the device manager after that ?. If the card is inserted and the computer is booted it is recognised and i can access the files, but the drive and filewindow just disapears shortly after that. Its obviously not a hardware problem since the hardware is exactly the same, but something related to Windows 10.
I had another go at this today and if you check view hidden devices it shows up as "Genereic storage device USB device" but it shows code 45 which means that its not connected to the computer, but it clearly is and still works perfectly in Windows 7. I can get it to work perfectly in Windows 10 if i disconnect and reconnect the card readers connector to the motherboard and it will work until the computer is rebooted then its the same problem, it disappears after about one minute (the computer even makes a sound then). Opening the desktop tower and disconnect and reconnect the reader to the motherboard is clearly not a solution of course.
The problem I'm having is that the card reader auto loads the photos into one drive with no options for windows explorer, dropbox, or any other software

Can you advise on issues with SD cards used in the car infotainment system? I have a VW Golf mk7. I’ve been using the same SD card for music for the last 12 months with no issues. However, I took the card out to add more songs last week (which I’ve done many times before) and the system now says ‘unable to read SD card’. I’ve changed the format and it’s still not working. I’ve also tried other SD cards which previously worked and now do not. All of these work fine on my laptop, just not in the infotainment system. I’m baffled.
When I went through all these steps, it didn't look like the MicroSD card was detected by anything. My laptop and phone recognizes all my other cards, and I even used different adapters, but to no avail. I tried using Autopsy as well. The entire system acted like that specific card didn't even exist, but every other card was fine. I'm starting to wonder if that card is fried, or that fine line across the card is more than just a fine line.... I'm worried it's cracked or broken.... Had my pictures in there and everything.... 😭
