Just wow. Bought me right back to the mountain and the feelings and physicality that you experience while climbing. I didn't summit (acute mountain sickness came on summit night 2,000ft before the peak), but I definitely had my own personal summit. I can still perfectly visualise the sun coming up over Mawenzi that morning. Kili changes you in ways I am still discovering and exploring 2 years later. When I can, I hope to go back and try another route.
I love this video! Come back to it frequently for its abundance, What an experience! id rather climb this mountain than everest, id visit the base of everest tho. with the african culture and the rainforest its snowy peak a beautiful combination cant believe its real and we live in a time where you can travel there.. what a time to be alive God bless
Alexander a coisa mais difícil é um céu azul no cume do Kilimanjaro. Seu vídeo foi o melhor de todos que já vi. A geleira no cume deveria ser património da humanidade de tão linda. Meus parabéns pelo trabalho lindo. BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL THANKS.
True .Any great mountain summit is made look achievable by the local mountain porters of that region.Kilimanjaro is truely amazing .Hopefully , i get chance to summit it
My boss climbed this 2 years ago! She’s a badass woman! I hope to be as healthy as she is when I’m her age! She had such an amazing time and had such great stories to share about her group and the guides/helpers :)
Waoh Alex, this is one of the best video documentary I’ve seen so far. Spectacular views and a breathtaking moon rise in perfect alignment with Venus. Loved every second of it. 🤗😘🌼🇻🇪
OMG... Saving this to watch later. My hubz and I are planning to climb Kili 2023. We wanted to go next year, but due to the pandemic, we move it to 2023. Next month it will be my turn to get jabbed. Cheers.

I am filled with admiration for all of you who climbed Kilimanjaro! Congrats. I've seen it from the air as I returned birthplace of South Africa. The feelings you guys felt and breathed was being in Africa. Sadly you never were able to walk barefoot on the red Earth! You will experience a major moment.. You are on Mother Earth/ Mama Afrika. Be very proud.
Hi Alex , thanks for showing this journey, that is some of the most beautiful views I have ever looked at . As an amateur astronomer, that moon rise was out of this world , and the fate of the glaciers is horrifying, you are a very lucky man . that is one hell of an adventure.
Beautiful!!! Followed your advice, I poured myself a cup of coffee, but ended up not even touching it, because I was so fascinated by your film. Very inspiring, true and beautiful. Thank you.
Your journey blows me away! You have achieved excellence! Your respect for nature, our environment and others is amazing! I appreciate humans like you! Congratulations on your accomplishment to to the summit of Mt. K! We enjoy all your videos. Keep up the Exceptional work!!!
Thank you for these kind words. The journey is one of a lifetime - let’s always strive to be better tomorrow than today, and better today than yesterday
Wow! I am just impressed with this vlog/documentary of your Mt. Kilimanjaro climb. A+ stuff. I completed my own Kilimanjaro last December 2021 and by Grace of God, I was able to summit and reach Uhuru Peak. I didn't take the Lemosho route like you guys did but chose the Machame route instead, doing the entire trek in 7 days. Watching this brought a little bit of tears to my eyes, recalling my difficult but rewarding climb. Thank you for this guys!
Thank you so much for sharing this amazing documentary of such high quality production. Your spirit, narration, knowledge was captivating, the best Kili climbing video I have seen, I am more motivated than ever to head to Kilimanjaro.
Hi Alex I saw your video was so nice you remember me when I was 27 years old I climbed at that time about a few people climbed not like now I'm right now 69 years I don't wanna to tell I climbed bit I wanna tell you thank you for remaining me. Rad . LA.. CA
I’ve watched your videos for years and this is definitely one of the best you’ve done. It definitely makes me want to climb this mountain, even with my fear of heights.
My son is beginning his Kilimanjaro quest today so he can celebrate his 50th birthday. This was scary for a mother to witness but he has always been one to conquer his fears and push himself further. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Even though at my current physical condition climbing the stairs feels like climbing Mt.Kilimanjaro, this video made me want to go out jogging and improve my physical condition so one day I also be able to experience this wonderful trip
That must be have been such an amazing beautiful experience when climbing and hiking with everyone. I would love to join and climb Kilimanjaro one day in Africa while taking pictu
Impossible not to stop and appreciate your work Alex. Thank you for sharing this journey, knowledge and beautiful views! God bless you, your family and friends! Speechless....
Alex....you are just awesome 👌❤! Thanks a lot for sharing your adventure with us....thank you for choosing Kilimanjaro.....Tanzania is beautiful country!......Africa as a whole is an amazing continent!.... Thanks again Alex, keep up the good work....love from South Africa!
(August 10, 2022) I am so inspired by your determination to succeed Alex. I just say CONGRATULATIONS for overcoming heat stroke, dehydration, and altitude sickness caused by thin oxygen. I have made a long comment on Part 2 of your trek. Stay healthy and more power. You have now your homestead in New Zealand to enjoy renovating together with your beautiful wife Carrie. God bless you.
This was an amazing documentary!!! The cinematography was breathtaking!!! I live in Colorado & have summitted many of the 14ers & 13ers that we have here....nothing like Kilamanjaro, but I have a huge appreciation for this! Thank you for sharing...this was beautiful!!! Congrats on the summit!!! :)
This is such a professional and comprehensive documentary on climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro; it belongs on the Discovery channel. Way to go Alex! I have a lot of items to check off my bucket list, climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro has always been one of them, but it has definitely moved up in priority after watching this video! Just incredible.
Fantastic visuals and heartfelt sentiments combine to make an exquisite presentation! Especially love those words of encouragement and acknowledgment for your mom my dear friend. That you thought to recognize her strength while you were at the top of your journey really was very special! Boundless determination for both of you! You’re a good man Alex!
Just wow! Where do i begin 😍This is a leggit film. Amazing footage, great explanations as you walk us through this amazing journey with you clearly from the heart.. I love mountains and i have been thinking about kili for a while this really puts me in the picture of how the trekking trip could go. Thank you taking us with you. Also so happy for your mom! alhamdolilah 😊
Great video. I climbed it July 2022 starting at Lomoshu the same as you but we only stopped at Lava Tower for lunch then descended to Barraco to sleep low before climbing the Barraco Wall and on to Karenga. From there we walked to Kosovo Camp which is about an hour past Barafu (you probably passed it on your descent) then slept the afternoon and got up at 11pm to climb to Stella Point arriving just after dawn then on to Uhuru Peak. I was a zombie by then being urged on by a guide :-) I envy you your day of rest as the 6 day route is pretty much dawn to dusk with little chance to appreciate where you are. I also envy you getting close to the glaciers as the usual route does not go near them. I have to agree the guides and porters are incredible.
Thanks Alex, for sharing this wonderful documentary. I summited Kili on Aug 19, 2022 via the Machame route (not even three weeks ago), and this video is a treasure. Saw some familiar sights for sure. I feel like I'm in an elite fraternity now and I encourage everyone to join.🙂
beautiful video. I will be climbing the Machame route in July. This really showed a whole new perspective and it was really cool to learn about the phases of the ice! I had no idea. What a once in a lifetime experience
What a beautiful and exciting expedition. Great filmed and great information 👌🏼 I just loved the energy of the K warriors 👏🏼 🌞 Hakuna matata na pole pole 👊🏼
Absolutely my favourite documentary of yours so far ( ‘documentary’ feels right, rather than ‘video’). This feels artful and so heart felt. Thank you for capturing this story and sharing it with us so beautifully! I’ve been thinking of making this journey- to be honest, I’d rather hike Kilimanjaro self supported just to offset the costs of guides and porters- and the fact that part of the reward for me is accomplishing these treks on my own. However, the porters and guide company seem wonderful and I’m sure it is safer and more enjoyable with their company, energy and support. In Nepal, I hiked the three passes trek in the Everest region with my partner on our own, and we did just fine at these elevations with the help of Diomox and taking the trek very poli poli! We also hiked the mustang trek to Tibet, where a guide is required by law, and we fully appreciated his help, friendly personality and cultural insights. I’m torn, because I like to be independent and challenge myself, but I understand the importance of supporting the local economy and these wonderful guiding outfitters. Your thoughts?
Thank you Philippa- I appreciate the kind words. I totally understand your sentiments- but it’s not allowed to climb self guided on Kilimanjaro. You have to climb with a licensed company, it is just the way they do it. I would love to get to the Himalayas and climb up to Everest Base Camp or do some of the other treks in the region.
@@AlexanderAyling Ah, well I guess I wouldn’t mind having a light pack and my tent set up for me after a long day of trekking- I am sure I would adapt 😂 quite quickly. Who wouldn’t want to start their day singing and dancing? I think you would love the three passes trek in Nepal, you can add Everest base camp to the circuit as well. It took us about three weeks. We live in the Rocky Mountains in Alberta and when we returned home from Nepal, our mountains seemed so small! Happy trekking! Looking forward to more of your outdoor adventures in New Zealand. 🙂
Like this video very much. Well done and informative. Things our guides did not tell us. Well, we did not even ask, just enjoyed the time we had. You guys should have climbed Mount Meru before Kili. It's the more beautiful mountain and ideal for acclimatisation. Baboons and giraffes are crossing the paths in the Arusha National Park.
Wow such a great documentary and one to learn in advance what to expect, this sure will be one of those trips I will be taking with my son , done k2 & Everest and now this one is on the horizon quite literally!!👍💪🏻
Amazing climb, I love your style. Really enjoyed the history of the area. I learned a lot about the mountain and how I can make my videos better. Great story, great accomplishment! Thank you for this incredible video!
The Western Breach is no joke & rainy season dose't mean rainy. I went in April the so call rainy season & it rain 1 time but it was cold but it's always cold on Killi. I only saw 5 hikers & that was at the peak. I was the only hiker on the Western Breach in April.
hello Alex thank you for cheering this huge and wonderful experience with us, your film is very inspiring and well documented, and the narration and cinematography are excellent; I was programming a trip to Tanzania this month, and the idea of climbing Kilimanjaro was out of my expectations, I suffer from osteoarthritis of the knees , but seeing your video bring me up to challenge my self. and I delay my trip for later, i think if I train and focus maybe I could climb next year
I'm only 16 years old and I'm climbing Kili in july, this video made me even more excited than I already was. Thank you!
You’re gonna love it!
How was it?
I'm 16 and climbing Kili in June 2025
Amazing ! cant wait to hike
Wishing you a wonderful hike!
I’ve enjoyed many Kili videos but this is the first video that made me want to climb the mountain. Simply amazing
Thank you! It was an unforgettable experience!
As a beach person, I starting to appreciate the beautiful mountains all over the world.
I get it!!! Mountains are amazing - but as a beach person it took me a while to realize too haha
Too agree! Maybe it takes a different level of appreciation that most won’t take time to understand 😩

The Western Breach is no joke & rainy season dose't mean rainy. I went in April the so call rainy season & it rain 1 time but it was cold but it's always cold on Killi. I only saw 5 hikers & that was at the peak. I was the only hiker on the Western Breach in April.
Must have been amazing to be up there all alone
hello Alex thank you for cheering this huge and wonderful experience with us, your film is very inspiring and well documented, and the narration and cinematography are excellent; I was programming a trip to Tanzania this month, and the idea of climbing Kilimanjaro was out of my expectations, I suffer from osteoarthritis of the knees , but seeing your video bring me up to challenge my self. and I delay my trip for later, i think if I train and focus maybe I could climb next year
excellent video
Thank you!
