    Totally agree on the toilet man. Best advice ever. Plus, JMHO, but I think that maybe because some Everest mountaineers proudly climb without canned oxygen, folks think the equivalent is climbing Kilimanjaro without Diamox. It's a daily pill (you actually begin taking a day or two in advance) and it's a pill which helps you acclimatize. I got to Uhuru at 52 years old in Aug, 2012 with the aid of Diamox.. I was down at the hotel, and I saw two young germans, apparently in great shape, but sadly hadn't summitted for the second time. I didn't ask about Diamox, but my guess is, they wanted to do it without Diamox and they had to try again. Again, JMHO.

    Ask that question to former NBC anchor, Ann Curry. In 2008, NBC sent her up Kilimanjaro unprepared. She got halfway there, deathly sick and almost died. It was a piece to show climate change affecting the glaciers on top of Kili. I saw a recent 2022 picture and the glaciers that were there when I summited in 2008 are still there.

    This video is fantastic. If the covid leaves, I hope to go to Tanzania this year, and maybe try the Kilimanjaro. I loved the video. Very human, with expressions, fears and real enthusiasm. I confess that I was also thrilled at the end. By the way ... for someone who has vertigo, but always tries to overcome their fear ... Do you think the route (closer to the end) can become "blocking"? Thanks

      I think you'd be absolutely fine! Kili is the adventure of a lifetime, most people can accomplish it if they believe they can, and the uncertainty of the challenge is what made it rewarding. The last day to the summit is most definitely painful; just one foot in front of the other is the only way!

      Yes, your guides will stay with you. Especially summit night/day. For example, say you’re in a group & you have 3 guides total (1 head guide, 2 assistant guides), if you need to turn around 1 guide will return with you and the other two guides continue & if more climbers need to turn around then one of the two guides who proceeded with the rest of the group will turn around.

  • @kylegood335
    @kylegood335 2 роки тому

    I appreciate everything here, but I will say--going with one of the more expensive companies that has the humanitarian aspect at a core of how they operate--while being more costly--can ultimately be a better thing for the people of Tanzania. We went with a more expensive company that endeavors with everything they have to take the best possible care of their people. A lot of the local companies "race to the bottom" to pay people the least they can to reduce cost for potential customers, and there are enough desperate porters who would gladly take the money because they need the work--particularly in light of the pandemic.
    If you go with the right company, they don't race to the bottom. Those dollars go to provide more than just the bare minimal subsistence that a lot of the porters are accustomed to. Just--something to keep in mind. Cheaper may feel better on your pocket, but it doesn't necessarily mean that you are doing a greater good--just because you get the same overall experience.
    Just my thoughts.
