April 2024 I'm stuck with the crappy $110 chinese thing off Amazon. I agree Ford is deliberately forcing us to buy a new vehicle in stead of repairing old ones. Auto makers and government together taking our freedom from us. Anyway thanks for the helpful video on leaving the fuel rail in place.
Wow, I am so glad I saw your point about not trying to disconnect the fuel rail. My Lisle tools will push back the springs no problem but the issue is... the fuel deposits that have formed on the internal o-rings have basically frozen the fuel lines together. No way in hell that's gonna come apart. Nice.to.see that you can just bend the rail out of the way. I would have been hating life if I thought the fuel rail had to come off.
Replaced the intake manifold on my 2000 f 250 5.4 in 2022 ! I found a ford dealer who had the oem intake for 180 dollars. I bought the metal coolant tube in the Valley also.
Good find. I have replaced many aftermarket ones and I have not had any issues thus far. So they are not as bad as some may think. Thank you very much for watching.
Wow! Just ran across this video. I ran into the same issues a couple of months ago trying to find an OEM intake for a 2007 F150 4.6L. Had to settle for the Dorman.
i'm changing the intake manifold on my 2011 lincoln town car, i appreciate the advice on starting the tapping screws first before installing the fuel rail. I couldn't find any videos demonstrating that specifically.
Getting ready to do mine on a 2004 F150 5.4 3v. Great video on the tips but I've got one. Change the plugs but be very careful if they are the orginals. They seize into the block. Ford even made a tool to take out broken plugs just for this engine. Had knock sensors changed this spring and got immediate p0171/174. Lean on both sides. Sprayed with carb cleaner and fuel trim into negative. Vacuum leak. Bad gasket or used the old one again.
Great tips and advice. I changed the plugs as well since I was right there. One of them was seized in which was a pain to remove but I got it out. Thank you so much for watching.
What's really stupid is that those really long, dumb looking spark plugs in the 3v were supposedly "fixing" the notorious problem in the 2v head of the plugs blowing out because only 3 or 4 of the threads catch in the head. (which breaks that cylinders coil every time). So they went way overboard and caused the opposite problem. Both of which have prompted aftermarket kits to fix. I have a '04 expedition which still had the 2v head that blew out the spark plug in cylinder 8. If that happens, don't use cheap inserts/helicoils or it will just happen again and probably eventually gap the head so bad it will be WAY more expensive. The best kit is the Calvan kit but it's about $300. Worth it if you ask me.
Thank you brother for all the information. Thank you for taking the time to explain, in details. Well done job I learn so much from all your explanation. I'm about to do it myself. And yes running that issue of part not been available.THANK YOU
Excellent video and information, my friend. Great advice, too. Like you, I've used the Irwin breaker sockets for many years. Invaluable, and 100% success for me too.
Hello, recently purchased an f150 5.4. Currently dealing with lean codes p0171 and p0174. I am told the intake manifold is the cause. Thankfully I have no coolant leak.
That's a huge possibility. The good thing is they are pretty inexpensive for a reliable one (link below). Also, it's a fairly easy job. Hi, awesome video and love the attention to details on what not to do. I have a 1999 5.4l F150 and bought the after market but I am struggling with the heater hose original pipe and where is the new? On your "torque seq diagram" near the end of the video (23:30) the heater hose is located like on mine - rear right corner. Also, you're correct FORD OEM no longer carry confirmed Oct 2024 after hitting up four dealerships in GA. Also, Dorman said they have the 4.6l (615-278) but don't carry/make the 5.4l. Any suggestions? Keeping it..💯, It was my father's truck and I'm not ready for it to become soda cans.

wow awesome bro ran into same issue for my 2001 ford f150 and for anyone out there listening do not buy fuel injectors that are cheap off amazon it wont work no matter what with this 5.4 nothing worked for mine except oem bosch fuel injectors fote-d5a or fote-d5b dont know the ones he got but i bought the cheap ones from amazon and my truck ran rich and idle problems really wanted to get this out there to hopefully save someone from all the trouble and crap I went through
Hey T, I 'm changing the lower intake gasket on 03 expedition.. after I remove both upper and lower there was a lot of broken pastic in the bottom under the lower intake, over the years I saw broken plastic coming off in that area so I thought it was the lower intake manifold.. but it was not , it was the intake manifold insulator.. it was shredded to pieces but there was a broken piece that had the part number on it.. (Ford 2L1E-6N041-AA).. I tried to find the part online and the local junk yard, no one has it.. I am a weekend mechanic.. . How valuable is this "intake manifold insulator"? Can I live without it?.. I'm in Mount Vernon.. Please let me know soon as you can .. My truck has to be inspected so I can submit registration by December. Thanks in advance
Sorry for the late response. If you're installing an aftermarket intake manifold you do NOT need to worry about that insulator. It's almost impossible to find new or even at the junk yards intact. Good info! I just had to buy the aftermarket one and the old manifold takes actual gasket but new aftermarket one has it in it already so it confused me. Now I know
I appreciate this video Terence, keep them coming! I am about to tackle this job on my 2003 Expedition 5.4L for the second time in 2 years, so needed a refresher on procedure. I am VERY pleased that I don't need to remove the fuel injector rail this time. Do you pull out the injectors to clean and add grease to o-rings before reinstalling? Please consider filming that procedure in another video project. Have you had to replace the injector wiring connectors? They were so brittle the last time and nearly all the securing tabs broke on me, thankfully just stayed in place.
Hi Colin, I show the injectors and what I used to clean them with in this video (18 minute mark). However, I did not show me installing them (very easy). Definitely add oil around the 0-rings before installing them. As far as the connectors, all of mine were fine. I've cut off a few harnesses at the junk yard in the event my connectors were bad. I will definitely make a video of me installing the injectors as well as a total tune up because I will be soon doing this to my 2003 Ford F350. Thank you SO much for watching.
I have a 98 Ford expedition. I had a hard time removing #7 coil, but when I tried to reinstall the screw i stripped the hole. any recommendations on fixing it or a hack to keep the coil in place? Also do you have a video on removing #7 coil without removing the fuel rail?
If I am being totally honest, after installing many of these, they seem to make the vehicle run better. Both of my trucks run amazing. Go Full Aluminum. Aftermarket plastic will give out. Full Aluminum from a older truck is available. Will require rerouting hoses and other small things but possibly to avoid this from happening again in the near future. Looking for metal heater hose connectors now. Chevy ones did not work.
@@TerenceDIYthat is true, the 98's or 99's had them; and If I correct I thought I seen someone say the Lincoln navigators might have had the aluminum although I could be wrong. ..
i got one a month ago from ford with no problem there was a little delay back 1 year ago ford will not put on a aftermarket parts also stay away from doorman they will give you trouble in 1 to 3 years
Question in reference the elbow vacuum that goes on top on the intake. The aftermarket elbow that is the vacuum is no sealed perfectly and leaks air. What do you recommend to do a good turn and seal the elbow?

I installed the dorman one about a year ago. Been having some vibration during idle mostly. After ruling everything else out, I'm starting to think it just may be the gasket material they use isn't strong. Do you think there would be any harm if I go back and retorque the manifold bolts to 20 lb? Thank you for the video by the way.
It definitely wouldn't hurt to give it a shot. The brand I purchased wasn't dorman but probably a better product for a cheaper price. I have installed several of these with flawless results. @@TerenceDIYthanks. I retorqued the bolts, but I had to loosen each one first because the original bolts are old. The coolant crossover bolts made noise and scared me. None of the bolts were loose so I don't think it's necessary to retorque these. I'll definitely buy new bolts and use that manifold you sent in the link if I ever have to replace it.
I need a intake manifold replacement on my 2001 ford expedition. It leaks coolant and water it pours out from under in the middle towards the front. Where is the best type auto shop to get it repaired? I was quoted $1,265 w/o taxes. The mechanic told me the part(intake manifold) will be $225 over the phone but it was $395 on the paper he wanted me to sign w/ 6hrs of labor @$150/hr. I'm doing this same job right now. Question for you. Do you recommend opening up the coolant crossover on my new intake manifold and lubing those o-rings? This is where the fail came from on my OEM part
Hello, I have a question. My 06 f150, 5.4L, started running bad. Felt like it was taking a deep breath sometimes, then it started a bad tremble. Put it on 3 different machines and they all read "intake nanifold VALVE" and how the passenger side waa stuck open. Yesterday, a mechanic waa changing the valve off the back of the intake, thought it was complete only to try starting and the truck read "engine failure safemode" and wouldnr start. Took it back out inly to find the new valve came apart. What is to your take of my situation thus far?? Please, Please let me know because at this point i would like to tell this mechanic your thoughts on this matter! Thanks in advance
9:58 dont install the cheap plugs! They will snap off! Then youll have to make a broken plug abstractor and a vacum to pull out all the cyramic before it damages the valves and cause a compression leak and a misfires.
I was just wondering if you ever had a blower fan motor quit working on your Ford trucks? Mine was working just fine I stopped at the gas station ⛽. I turned it off. Spent maybe 20 minutes in the station came back out. Hot air was just trickling out of the dashers no blower working. Now for me and years passing other vehicles if it's the blower motor it just don't quit just like that. Just wanted to know if you knew a trick with these trucks? I am going to check the fuse box but I understand that there's a second fuse and there's someplace, maybe under the hood. Any experience with this on the Ford truck? mine's a 2010 super duty. Just thought I'd ask because you've done some other things with these trucks. And mine has a gasoline engine. Not that should matter. Thank you
Yes, I have dealt with this some years back. It was a poor ground or bad connection somewhere within the structure of the unit. Go underneath the glove box and hit the bottom of the blower and see if it turns on. It also could be the blower motor resistor however, if that was the case, it would only work on high or one speed like the white F250 I just bought is doing. Let me know, thanks.
@@TerenceDIY well thank you. The fan does not work at all! So it's probably not the resistor but that's kind of hoping it was. Excellent idea hit the bottom of the heater blower fan to see if it'll start running again. Pantone about it and it's just one of those things I've forgotten about. Well right now it's about 22° that's about where it's going to stay tonight. I got a few more hours of driving to do. And after I've been on the road for about 20 minutes it gets warm enough just not as warm as I'd like it. It's just kind of feeling hot air out very little but it's enough to take the chill off. I'll let you know when I find out.
Do you have experience with the 4.6 2 valve V8 in the 2008 Ford Econoline E250? It seems to only have a cylinder temperature head sensor and not a coolant temperature sensor on that header pipe like yours. My temperature guage is not working so I am wondering if that is why. I was given conflicting responses, some say there should not be a coolant temperature sensor and others say there should. Please help. Thank you.
Hi, I have the schematic for that engine. Your coolant temperature sensor is not located on that crossover pipe like in this video. It goes into the cylinder head on the driver side just underneath that crossover pipe. If your guage isn't working, you may have to replace that sensor or thoroughly inspect the wiring to that connector.
I don't think it's a wire that goes into the dash. If you're getting a reading I would not be shocked if the gauge itself is having issues. I have seen a few cases where the gauges were having issues in that specific instrument cluster. That's why there are many services available like this (link below). www.ebay.com/itm/183076895176?fits=Year%3A2008%7CModel%3AE-250%7CMake%3AFord&epid=1022126228&itmmeta=01HZCH7V074X4PN4MT05WJAP48&hash=item2aa03bb9c8:g:VUYAAOSwpDdVb0CK&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA8GFWstsom0JN9c5bshV8aqRjXQw2RvUjFRtg0rP%2Fivc8XuPYubW2dEX4dHHGcWBbsUsYE5PrJ0uqgjpfEXYRR18lkLTYNDTJZTy4UnpQfv9ANVfS7TlNx8Sp3XI0DTsbmCvGgN9TXUQQZqFhJPRZVFLBsccBCqDm33eOLMdpR0F4D08OetT6J0UOpCNcnpUEU2RnrMggWu9Sf%2BjEv0vC14FkTQieeirm6imV%2FcasMaVjLYNby8URLQm8%2F6%2FwI0llz3%2BzTRX8EAV2vvWK3ZFCbiIj%2Bq9zlI3Hk1Uz%2FkIZrtbuhOmVrV1aTPFJCO3YmXjL0w%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR6Kwn5H7Yw

The Suburban you mean? If so, yes. There's a recall for that air bag issue. I just got another letter in the mail to schedule the fix. I will take care of it next week. Thanks for watching.
I have a 2007 f150 4.6 Liter engine yes I also went to the Ford motor company and they told me that they discontinued making my intake manifold I have reached out to junk yards six or seven junkyards they told me that they were out of them to I found one that has one and I'm going to go out there and buy it I'm not going to trust dorman why if I you're too later than I got to do the same job again no thank you
To be totally honest, I would trust the dorman 100 % over an old one from the junkyard. My truck runs amazing with the dorman and I will drive it anywhere. Thank you so much for watching.
@@TerenceDIY this is going to be the first time I ever changed an intake manifold so my truck has 210,000 mi I'm just going to buy the one from the junkyard because who knows how much longer my truck is going to last
@@m3vt2seffn , you can get well over 300k miles on your truck. The trick is changing your oil every 2000-2500 miles. That's how you get longevity out of the engine.
You're very welcome. Thank YOU for watching.
I have a 1999 Ford F150, and the intake is aluminum, thankfully.
Yep. Thanks for watching.
👍Thank you SOOO much for watching. I am glad my video helped you.
Gotta love the fact that Ford made such broken garbage, then abandoned the folks that bought their vehicles.
Ford is a shameful company for many reasons.
Wow! Just ran across this video. I ran into the same issues a couple of months ago trying to find an OEM intake for a 2007 F150 4.6L. Had to settle for the Dorman.
The Dorman is still working great. I have done a few of them though and all are fine. Thanks for watching.
i'm changing the intake manifold on my 2011 lincoln town car, i appreciate the advice on starting the tapping screws first before installing the fuel rail.

Just a follow up thank you after finally doing this job yesterday. So much better not disconnecting the injector rails!!! @@TerenceDIY

I have a 98 Ford expedition. I had a hard time removing #7 coil, but when I tried to reinstall the screw i stripped the hole. any recommendations on fixing it or a hack to keep the coil in place? Also do you have a video on removing #7 coil without removing the fuel rail?
I've seen a few cases where people would use a wire tie to hold that coil in place. I do not have a video on removing the #7 coil.
Thank you for making this. How does the Dorman affect the performance vs oem?

@@TerenceDIYthat is true, the 98's or 99's had them; and If I correct I thought I seen someone say the Lincoln navigators might have had the aluminum although I could be wrong. ..
i got one a month ago from ford with no problem there was a little delay back 1 year ago ford will not put on a aftermarket parts also stay away from doorman they will give you trouble in 1 to 3 years
That's awesome that you were able to get one. Thanks for watching!
Question in reference the elbow vacuum that goes on top on the intake. The aftermarket elbow that is the vacuum is no sealed perfectly and leaks air. What do you recommend to do a good turn and seal the elbow?
Hi Jose, this product will work perfectly and it's very easy to remove the elbow if need be in the future. I use it all the time. Here is the link.

(link below)

Great!
I was told it only takes 2-4 hrs to replace the intake manifold. Am I being shaded and what is the best type auto shop for this type of work done right. I'm in Birmingham Alabama
I live in Chicago so I would not know a shop in your location. However, here is a link to the part I've used MANY times with great results.

Great video. Thanks for the tips. I’m doing the exact same thing on my ‘03 f150. So how is the aftermarket manifold doing? I’m on the fence because I really wanted the oem ford manifold
I have done quite a few of these and they are on both of my trucks. The aftermarket manifold has been great especially for the price. NO issues at all.

I'm doing this same job right now.
Question for you.
Do you recommend opening up the coolant crossover on my new intake manifold and lubing those o-rings? This is where the fail came from on my OEM part
Sorry for the late response. I've been very busy. I would NOT open the crossover. I've used quite a few of these and they have all been great!
@@TerenceDIY thanks for the reply! Would you recommend using any lubricant on the gaskets on the bottom of the new intake manifold or leave them bare?
@@cjkeeney7293 no lubricant please. You will get a perfect seal just installing them as they are. Trust me. Thanks,
Hello, I have a question.
Hi, which valve did he replace? Do you still have the factory intake installed?
9:58 dont install the cheap plugs! They will snap off! Then youll have to make a broken plug abstractor and a vacum to pull out all the cyramic before it damages the valves and cause a compression leak and a misfires.
Oil on spark plugs comes fro.where
On top of the plug?
@@CAROLDDISCOVER-1983 , okay. Keep me posted.
Excellent video.
Thank you! My OBD2 scanner shows the temperature increase though. Could that still be a wire? Maybe a wire that goes into the dash?
I don't think it's a wire that goes into the dash. If you're getting a reading I would not be shocked if the gauge itself is having issues. I have seen a few cases where the gauges were having issues in that specific instrument cluster. That's why there are many services available like this (link below).

The Suburban you mean? If so, yes. There's a recall for that air bag issue. I just got another letter in the mail to schedule the fix. I will take care of it next week. Thanks for watching.
Do NOT use anti seize on the plugs. Torque plugs to 23-25 lbs. and they will never spit out.

@@m3vt2seffn , you can get well over 300k miles on your truck. The trick is changing your oil every 2000-2500 miles. That's how you get longevity out of the engine.
