Am I the only one that was waiting for Prudence to answer the phone and say " Thank you for calling BMW Call Service, how may I help you" (In the backgroud, Yaaa thenga idrum stick ngiyafa)
To be honest, I bought 118i M exactly because it's a front wheel drive. I had many different car, but I am a BMW fan. However, I am a reasonable person. RWD I had was 318i E92. If you live in a climate with cold winter, trust me, you want FWD or 4x4. RWD on ice: you make a turn and go sideways even at very low speed. It all comes to what do you need the car for, where you drive it etc. Statements like:"Ah, it's a FWD, it's a bad car" are just blah-blah from people who don't put their money where their mouth is. Great review by the way!:)
Me personally I own a e90 RWD for fun and daily and X3 F25 AWD for road trips. I have driven multiple FWD before and I am not a huge fan of it. Much prefer the handling of RWD over AWD even. I also found that it is extremely difficult to service FWD due to the engine is usually positioned horizontally and differential fluid is extremely hard to get to.
@rasimkazi7086 I bought a 118i with 35k about 9 months ago, they're really solid engines and it's a really high quality little car, it goes through a tank of feul quite fast though, I would 100% recommend this car, it's not really fast but it's not slow.
BMW is using this car as a guinea pig, they know journalists and enthusiasts are going to complain but also they confident that the ride quality is spot on. After 3 years when they release a face lift they will improve all of the issues people complain about and it will reclaim its spot as the ultimate fun hatchback. Oh, I'm a Beemer fan :-)
I must say. I absolutely love your way of describing everything about this vehicle. Detailed analysis, yet easy to understand. Unfortunately, this car like many others is simply a pipe dream for your day to day Joe Public. Keep up with the brilliant reviews.
I have owned the previous model 120i with the 1.6t rwd m sport. This ride is far more compliant in m sport trim. Don’t know how they did and it and the handling is much better in this car. Big step up. Don’t let the rwd fan bois deter you if you are buying this car for daily spirited commuting as the journalist said it’s a 118i you are buying. Most of us don’t know how to extract performance from a rwd anyway. This is safe and understeer ensures the non trained driver never gets himself in trouble
It's for the mass public because it's a better car overall than the previous gen F20. RWD is fun to drive but also has disadvantages. And I've driven two F40 118is and they are also great fun to drive, and better than the F40 in pretty much all other regards.
Am a Merc person and traditionally a BMW hater, but this vehicle changed my mind! All new same category cars seem they stepped bck in build quality (interior at list) except BMW. Please watch his BMW X3 review, left me with some stomachache for days. Especially his first line - "it's beautiful from the side, but upfront you're assaulted by BMW's huge kidney grills"😂🤣😂
I, We have known BMW to be a Rear wheel drive car all our lives and now they have changed. Why though cause it was working so well. Good useable review Ciro.
My first car was a 118i and it was a drift missle for 20 year old me, it actually had more power than the new one, and with a good clutch kick it was great fun! Since then I've had a couple of Alfas but I missed RWD so back to an old 1 series, but this time a straight six convertible, it's a genuine daily thrill driving such a balanced car that rotates mid corner and never feels out of control, driving any FWD/transverse engined/small turbo engined cars feels just awful, just disgusting, specifically referring to my other car, an Alfa Guilietta, needless to say it's up for sale
The only thing stopping people from loving the new one series design and tech is their ego... so much hate is going on about the three cylinders but why would one using this as an everyday drive find it lacking in power? Care for the environment? Besides, nobody tailspins out of every corner on day to day drives. This group are just disappointed on how bmw is failing to create a car for a small market that suits their desire for big engine models. How can this be sustainable for bmw in the long run? Not logical at all.
Great video! What are your thoughts on the fuel consumption , after having driven it ? I recently changed my m140i for this 118i and I find the fuel consumption isn’t that much better. I only get about 100km more on a tank, expected a bit more.
Mohamed Dawood depends how you drive it, I have the touring tank and get about 550 miles before refilling. I also put the car in eco mode and I get 51mpg, I do a lot of motorway driving, averaging 250 - 300 miles a day. The car still accelerates well, in eco mode, it seems to drop into neutral when coasting, I have an auto btw.
