    I just drove one of these as a hire car and I came online to see what other people think about it. Nice quality and gadgets, it felt like a good mix between screens and buttons but oh man, the car was slow to accelerate. Almost made overtaking a bit problematic. And also, what is with that really shallow foot area for the driver? What the hell? Never seen anything like this, are all cars like this nowadays? My Giulietta QV (at 240bhp auto from a 4 cylinder 1.8L engine with big Brembo brakes, it is a much nicer car) didn't have this. Also, braking felt rather sloppy. It looks really good though, much better than its other German competitors.

      I agree it’s not quite as quick as I expected until I put it in sport mode where it was much more responsive at least. I went for one with the M sport pro pack, it makes the brakes way better, almost too strong LOL.

    Nice review. I've now owned 3 Audis and I just bought a used 120d Sport xDrive from the local authorised BMW dealership. Its a 2021 model with 50k kms/30k miles on it - for my wife. Absolutely lovely piece of kit this car. Very well balanced & sure footed. Looking forward to taking it up to the Alps.I personally love the layout & ergonomics more than my 2024 Audi Q5.

    I hear the 2.0 128ti is supposed to be a good steer. 265 bhp, front drive and a bit more fun than the 2.0 M135i AWD. Love to see an on road test of that if you stumble on one, or a 135.

      I wanted to get a 128ti, or an M135i with the newer facelift model, problem is they were both around £30k -£35k for a decent one. So I picked a 335D X Drive M Sport with the ZF 8 Speed Automatic gearbox instead, 6 years old with 59k on the clock, 0-60 better than both of those cars (0-60 in 4.8s in the 335D) and bigger saloon car so more room, more efficient (35-40mpg on a spirited drive and 45-50mpg on a motorway cruise) and all wheel drive.
      Paid £17,300, considering the list price of it brand new was over £41k, I'd say paying £17,300 for a 6 year old car with 59,000 on the clock was pretty good. That's a LOT in depreciation each year! It was literally the only one of that age, mileage and condition at that price advertised in the whole country, next cheapest was £2,200 more at £19.5k

      @@thefiestaguy8831 I bought my M140i in late 2019 when it was about 2 & a half years old, it had 14,200 miles on, and I paid exactly £20,000.
      Considering it's list price was about 38k I'd say I did well !!
      I have had it for 4 years now, and it's on 43,000 miles, and has been running 455bhp/634nm quite happily for the past 3 years 🙂

      @Buck3366 Рік тому

      @@thefiestaguy8831 You chose a good car. Im in the market for an AWD hatch circa 30-40k budget and the BMW peaks my interest but that M135i 2.0 engine leaves me unimpressed sound wise even if it is a capable car. I was talking to a guy at a factory today that I visited and he has a 435d Gran Coupe. Runs a stage one and larger intercooler( I never realised they used the same intercooler as lesser engined models). Showed me his dyno sheet and it was 397bhp (350 ish wheel) and 730nm of torque! That’s one hell of a gain for minimal outlay and the intercooler was purely down to preference and helped make 4 consistent back to back runs with the same power and no heat issues. I know for a fact they are quick stock. Officially Gassed has a new series on his 335d daily and is good viewing as he’s just had a stage 1 by NVM and that’s his first stop to getting it to some daft numbers. I can see that well over 600 after he’s finished.

    Hi, I have a 118i .habe you tested the 128ti? Is it worth it for daily day driving? I do not drive like a maniac. I want it for a normal driving. Thks

  • @Dave.93
    @Dave.93 15 днів тому

    I test drove the 118i and the 128ti today. I initially wanted the 128ti but found it a lot rougher on the roads (obvs because of the tighter/sportier suspension) and it had much more road noise than the 118i. It had more engine noise too which sounds cool, and more power but I won’t be able to enjoy/don’t need that extra power on my commute. I also didn’t feel the 118i was lacking in power.
    A 73 top spec 118i (pro pack + LCP) is only 2-3k less than a 73 plate 128ti atm so it’s tempting to go with the more powerful model.
    128ti give nearly 2x the BHP of the 118i, another exhaust, bigger red brake clippers and a slightly nicer red embroidered interior.
    But also gives a loud, bumpy ride, higher insurance, lower MPG and will be potentially targeted more by thieves.
    118i gives a smoother, quieter ride with lower insurance costs and better MPG.
    However, You can’t buy a new 128ti anymore so they’ll depreciate less in the long run.
    Just my thoughts x

      1 series imo, hence I’ve just bought one. Quality has now definitely overtaken the a3 as the a3 has taken a down turn. It’s a pretty nice refined car to drive in terms of the ride, engine being quiet etc. only downside is the manual clutch is quite heavy and springy and a bit awkward to drive smoothly. Can’t comment on the auto but I expect very good.

    I drove a hire car one of these in late 2022, a brand new 2022 plate with 350 miles on the clock. When I handed it back I looked at the price of it online.... £30k. I was a bit staggered to be honest. As nice as it was, 30 grand for a small 1.5 litre hatchback was absurd.
    Nice car to drive, but the 1.5 engine is a bit wimpy in my opinion. This car from 30-70 takes over 8 seconds.
    My 335D which although being a 3.0 litre with 4WD, is still a much bigger car and has X Drive which adds supposedly another 100kg in weight, does 0-60 in 4.8 seconds.
    A 335D is quicker by 3.2 seconds from 0 to 60 than this car is from 30-70...
    Oh, and the worst bit about new BMWs?
    The ongoing subscription costs for things like heated seats, etc.
    Imagine having to spend £450-£700 a month on a BMW, and then finding out you've specified it to have heated seats, but you have to pay to activate them AND then continue to pay a few quid a month - and if you stop? Well they stop working of course!

    • @BIG2hats
      @BIG2hats 9 місяців тому +1

      The 1 series always cost about that from new. The reason you see so many on the road is that everybody goes for PCP and the value drops heavily after year 3 so the used market is very popular.
      There’s no point comparing this car to your 3 series, they’re two completely different cars at two different price ranges. People who buy the 1, can’t afford the 3.

      Yet another who thinks that tons of power is needed. Daily use, not required. Mostly for ego boosting by a lot of drivers, to feel superior because it’s faster than the next car when a bit of immature road rage takes place because they needed to show who’s boss on the road. Wow. Thats why UK roads have so many problems.

    • @thefiestaguy8831
      @thefiestaguy8831 8 місяців тому +1

      Not sure where you got that impression from. I chose to have a car with that engine because I like driving. I like driving to the speed limit... it's nothing to do with "prestige" or "one upping" anyone else on the road. Ultimately it's still a 6 year old car with 88k on the clock and i'm under no illusion.
      Everyone has their fancy... people I work with spend thousands going on week long holidays in dubai, australia, new york... you name it. I don't. My last holiday abroad was late last year consisting of 11 days in Spain and that was my first holiday abroad since 2014!
      Some lads and girls like to spend most friday and saturday nights in the club, getting absolutely hammered and then passing out in an alleyway, waking up hours lter covered in their own vomit.
      Me? I do none of that. I spend money on my car.
      I work with people who earn the same amount of money as me who drive around in 19 year old small Audi Hatchbacks. A colleague of mine who was earning £65k+ 5 years ago I saw leaving work in an R reg volvo estate.... some people just want a cheap car because they prefer to spend their money elsewhere. Other people pay more for their cars because they feel they work hard for their money (I know I do) and want to treat themselves.... nothing to do with "ego" at all.
      I judge a person by their personality, not their car. I've met people driving old bangers who are the nicest people going, then i've met someone driving a £200k bentley who was a horrible person.
      You sound insecure.... insecure that i'm happy with my car.

      You're not wrong but what did you expect? You can't compare a 1,5l 3 cyl petrol to a diesel with twice the engine capacity and cylinders. Everyone knows that the 118i will be slower than a 335d. You'd have to compare the 1 series to a 316d or your 335d to the M135i for a comparison that makes sense.

      £30k+ for a small 1 series hatchback... does that not sound ridiculously expensive to you?
      Consider my car when new was £41,130. These cars are between £30k and £33k new.
