    ...I put tubes in 'em all the time..great instructions!..one thing I might add..I always take the tire off every time..not only to check for things that might be poking through the tread, but also to check the rim for welding spatter and slag that might puncture the tube..sometimes, you may have to wire-brush, or in some cases file or grind, burrs from the inside of the rim, so you don't wind up with a punctured tube....

    It's a good idea to visually and by feel to check the inside of the tire before installing a tube in case there's something sticking in the wall of the tire that may puncture the new tube. Had that happen before. Good video, thanks.

    • @RickaramaTrama-lc1ys
      @RickaramaTrama-lc1ys 4 роки тому +3

      Yes you are right on that and we used to drag a soft rag around inside the tire and it would grab the smallest barb of anything and we could find it easily. All these millennials will never know the joy of working in a gas station and fixing many tires each day all by hand with no motorized machines not even the balancers. I always liked hot patches cause they usually lasted the longest and were usually the best cause they vulcanized the tube.

      Same here Mustie1. The rachet straps do work... sometimes, but they tend to put up a fight. I've had good luck with putting the tire in a headlock and squeezing it hard while putting air to it. Also, kicking the tire onto the bead while applying air has work serveral times too. Love your videos by the way. I was just watching them last night. Would be a good idea to check to inside of the rim for sharp edges so it doesn't puncture the tube. Those rims are welded together and they can leave a piece of mig wire sticking out. Ran across that when installing a tube in mine.

    There are many ways to do many things. I use a 5/8" threaded eyebolt in my 5" vise to anchor down tire. I put a Vise~Grips™ on one edge of the wheel so I don't have to chase the tire around when mounting. I always run my hand S l o w l y around the inside of the tire to be sure there are no sharps in the carcass. I put a little air in the tube when mounting to keep it from getting pinched.
    When patching, after abrading the tube I draw some long crosshairs (+) over the hole so I can centre the patch over the hole. I use a thin dia. pass-link chain around the centre of the tread and twist it tight with a long HD screwdriver to expand the tire at bead areas. If you don't have any 'Bead Sealer', driveway sealer or spray paint will work. That's why I have speckles on the walls! Just the way I do it without purpose built tools. Thanks for the tutorial Taryl.

      Liquid laundry starch can help with leaks like this. The Sta Flo stuff is like $3 for 2 quarts. Break the bead, pour about a cup in for the small tires, maybe 1 3/4 to 2 for the rear tires. It's like the slime stuff, but cheaper. I had tires that would go flat in days, and come off the rim in a week or so. Used the starch and they are holding strong over a month later. Cheap fix, and surprised me. Lots of successful stories about this if you search online.
      If having problems breaking the bead, put a 2x6 on the edge of the tire, and drive a truck up it slowly... that works for me, when I cant get it by hand, or by using a scissor jack to wedge it against something. Then use ratchet method to reseat bead.
      Taryl's videos are great for the DIY'ers.

    I worked at a tire shop all through high school. I've never seen this type of tire machine. We had the big pneumatic machine for car tires and we always did the lawn tires by hand. That bead squeezer tool is really neat! We would just tie a rope around the tire, stick a bar through the rope, and start spinning the bar till the rope tightened up enough.

    I couldn’t tell you how many mower/atv tires I’ve fought to get on with commercial tire tools. That lil bench top changer is a nice tool!
    I always let the air out of the tube atleast once before I call it done. Different manufacturers can make them bigger and/or sell one tube as a few different sizes. It will help take any creases out of the tube which can cause a failure. Also they make a tube tool which attaches the tube to a wire with a handle so the tube can fall into the tire and there less chance for you to puncture it when finishing the install.

    Thanks Taryl, great info, had to fabricate my own stuff for fixing those little jewels, good for others to know about availability at harbor freight. Best, and easiest tire fix was on my old Cushman scooter, had equal 2 piece wheel radius bolted together, with hub to wheel also holding it. Enjoyed your video, laughed a lot too! 🌈

    Great video Taryl and crew. Taught me some new bead seating tricks, NICE. Also like your homemade collet for keeping a valve stem in place, really cool. But shame on you Taryl, for pestering that poor customer with the inner tube phobia, TISK!
