A huge Thank You to Super Clean for offering this sample pack giveaway. I sent the video to the Super Clean team to choose the winners. They couldn't choose just one so here are the 3 winners of the sample packs. Neptune's Creations Hayseed Shawn Olson Congratulations, and get ready to clean up some filthy stuff.
Wish I saw this years ago. Tried to change a tire on my dad's mower. Couldn't get the new one on. Ended up at a tire shop. Probably needed those tire spoons. Thanks Jeff.
Great video , Jeff. Your presentation and pacing were excellent and the bits of humor made it enjoyable to watch. Keeping ones fingers away from between the tire bead and rim during inflation was my favorite as I'm fond of my fingers and opposed to pain!
11:53 Thank you for the ratchet strap tip!! Worked like a charm on our lawnmower tire that went flat over the winter. Without the strap, it was just wobbling all over the rim and letting air out uncontrollably.
I like the cleaning part comes out a lot easier than me scrubbing with a rush. I need to do my rims. Bow covers engines, and my car and certain spots. Thank you. I believe your product will work very well.
Jeff, some tricks and tips of mine are to use dish soap without water, last a bit longer when it’s being difficult. You didn’t mention getting the bead of the tire below where it seats on the rim. The rim is actually designed that way so one side can slip more towards the center of the rim to slip the tire on around the rim. Lots of times you may not even need spoons to put it back on. I recently had to do this on a log splitter and didn’t even take the rim off the splitter. Sometimes with the tire on your bench lube up the rim and tire and push the rim onto the tire while turning the rim works. I would also recommend you spray your valve stem both around it and on the core to check for leaks.
Hey Jeff! I've been a subscriber for awhile and hadn't seen this video. I spent an hour this morning trying to mount one tire, then came to youtube for a refresher vid. Then spent the next three hours getting both tires mounted. The point is this vid didn't pop up till I sat down here this evening. Lol! Oh well, good vid as always! Thanks for posting!
Super great video. I just got my new rear tires delivered for my rider, gonna install them on the rims today. One thing most of u dont know is dish soap has patrolum distillates in it. It can eat up ur tire over time. They do make a white paste that tire repair shops use but who has tire paste laying around? I have a better idea. I am going to try Ky- jelly in a spray bottle mixed with a little water to slip on the tire to the rim. Yes, I said Ky- jelly-lol. It's water based so no deterioration later on. I also learned to NEVER use tire bead sealer to a good rim. The bead sealer will corrode a rim making the rim worse. Thanks again for a great video.
After HOURS, and maybe a bit of cussing, this is the BEST vid ever! ESPECIALLY WITH ANOTHER VIDEO he made when he was told to, use STRAIGHT DISH SOAP!!! After a dozen vids, with no success BEFORE WATCHING THOSE 2!! THIS is the way. The clamp was a game changer, the undiluted soap was the icing on the bead! 8 minutes to mount a new a new rubber on the rim.
This is a great video with some great tips. One important thing I have not seen on the lawnmower tire change videos IS ,along sure the back side of the tire is in the valley of the rim so your not fighting it.
This was thorough and clear. I appreciate the straight forward and expansive explanation. This is all the instruction I need to change my lawn tractor tire,
THANK YOU, the clamp worked fantastic! However, I needed two ratchet straps (one on each side of the tire) to get the bead set and for the tire to take air. These were very new and inflexible tires with strong sidewalls. I could set the bead on the tire I took off could by using one strap, but it was about 20 years old.
Thanks for the video and tip about the ratchet strap. My tubeless ride front tyre went flat and tyre bead on one side let go. I couldn’t get it to reseat just with compressed air but when I put the strap around it, it popped on very nicely.

@@homebuiltshop Thanks so Much and Thanks so much to Super Clean. Austiville Virginia is going to get a little bit cleaner thanks to others generosity.
I have to do the same thing on a trailer I built for my mower. I have the added fun of putting an innertube in mine though. Thanks Super Clean for letting Jeff give out a sample pack. I could use one. I'm redoing the brakes and all the brake lines as well as a bunch of other work on a 1997 Dodge Dakota.
I almost went with a tube, but all the tubes I could find locally were at least half the price of a tire. Since I still had to break at least one bead loose, I figured I may as well change the whole tire. Now I need to do the rear tires. Lol.
Congratulations, Super Clean has chosen your comment to receive a sample pack of products. Please send me an email to homebuiltshop@gmail.com with your shipping address. Super Clean will send you the sample pack.
Nice job Jeff! My weekend project last week was my wife's bike tire.... it was probably easier than a tractor tire but I have a point! I was curious as to the leak... tire off the rim, put air in the tube and baptized it in the kitchen sink, only to learn........ it was the Schrader stem!! Ugh, I changed it out, lesson learned, saving the new tube for when I really need it. Holds air now!!
Thanks, pulled tips from 2 different people, 2 years ago I just bought new rims and tires already mounted, but it had a set of these plastic bushings berrings that worked but not really good, my original cub cadet wheels were in very good shape with real berrings and zerts this junk set had a cheap plastic zert on the inside of the rim. I took the old tires off my factory rims pulled the new wheels back of the tractor after using them for 2 years and they were very muddy dry mud we've had one of the wettest summers I can remember in the last 50 years so it was pretty bad. Cleaned up the orignal rims put in new valve stems set aside busted down the new wheels and put the rubber on the orignal rims. Its pretty ez to bust the bead on that size rim with just 2 hands and pushing down. I also put agro type new tires on the back I had to buy and use a harbor fright tire machine for them and it worked really good pice of cake. I also got 2 long tire spoons from harbor freight. But you cant change a tire on a rim with a 3/4" shaft hole with it. You would need to buy the small one but it may not work for rear wheels as good and these agro style tires don't stretch as ez. To take what I did to a lawnmore shop or tire store your looking at 10 each or up to 40 each wheel. Its cheaper to just buy the tool and do it at home. I belive I could make an adaptor to do smaller tires on the big machine. What I did was used a black and decker workmate and put a long old screwdriver with a missing handel and it had a large flat spot the end of its made to hit with a hammer so it has to be 70 years old or more. You put your 2 long tire spoons in one side the long shaft is taller then the tire one spoon on one side the other on the other side you use the center shaft to pivot from as you push each spoon past the other like opening sizzors this pulled the bead up over the rim, works both sides keep the bead from the back side in the center of the rim at its smallest diameter that gives room for the tools. The tires pop right off the rims dry.
EXTRA ARMS A couple of tricks / tools I have been guided to use is a "HEACY" steel plate with a 6" X1/2"bolt welded in the middle that I drop the rim over and tighten it down to stabilize the work. 2nd Is I grab the rim with vice grips so the tire does not move around and loose what I have gained. I am really considering building a breakdown machine for the little tires. 3rd If I am dealing with a tire that does not want to be air tight on the rim / rust pits etc. I use a layer of toilet ring bees wax smeared around where the tire bead makes contact . 4th If your dealing with a persistent leaking tire, what I would recommend first is changing the stem as the cores are happiest with a new stem . Break down the tire enough to install a new stem is easier.
I like the ideas for the clamps to break the bead and clamp the tire to the work bench. Recently had to change the front tire on my stepfathers mower, and he never told me he SLIMED it years before 😱!! Had to use a wire brush for the heavy stuff, then penetrating oil and time (about 45 minutes) and it wiped off. Would those Super Clean products do anything for that, or would you recommend the same if you came across that (something that essentially melts it off)?
Bad you considered using a tubeless sealant on the tire? Helps to seal the bead and plug any small holes. I’m not sure if lawn tractors use the stuff but it’s handy.
I think this tire had sealant in it at one time. There was a goopy residue in the tire. I've used it before on other tires. With this one being dry rotted, I decided it would be best to replace it.
Informational, but the Pyro in me was sad you didn't use the exploding carb cleaner method to seat the bead. I need to clean up my dirty victrola motor...and I wonder if Super Clean is safe enough to clean the crud off of the shower?
Working on adding an inner tube to my flat tubeless rear mower tire now. Really stiff tire so will use the heat of a hairdryer around the center of the tire and then the soap/grease since I don't have a heat gun or hot sun. A mechanic will take half a day to get to and travel $$.
I’m getting ready to change all four 1995 Sabre 1546G riding mower tires away from their host wheels. I need all of the help I can get with this project here in NC. Jeff Ingle - 425 Madison Dr., Mount Holly, NC-28120. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!

For anyone who watches this video, save yourself some struggle. When attempting to remove or mount the tire, push the bead of the tire down towards the middle of the rim and put your spoon in the opposite side. All tubeless rims are designed so that the middle of the rim allows the bead to move towards the opposite side and you won't have to struggle to get the opposite bead on or off. Finally, keep in mind that the smaller the diameter of the center of the tire is, the harder it will be to remove and mount. And just like most things in life, lubrication is the key ;)
next time put a long steel rod in a vice put the center of the rim over the rod and then use those tyre spoons the moment you have 1 part over the rim than you can make a scissor movement with the rod as center and than you get it real easy of i learnt this at a car garage where the tyre machine was broken
I gave it a shot and ended up taking the two tires to a local tire shop and paid $10 each. Well worth the money. My medical insurance deductible is way more than $20 😂 But something you should do while the wheels are off. Pop off the rubber outer seal of each of the wheel bearings and re-pack them with grease. Mine were bone dry and probably original from 1994.
Why would you be worried about damaging the old tire, taking it off, if you're taking it off because it's already useless and damaged? It'd be nice if you could get some cable Cutters in there and just cut the bead on each side of the tire and then just pull it off, but it's obviously tight enough as it is and you don't want to risk damaging the rim.
I have a pig farm. It's on a recuperated field backfilled over a swamp contaminated by a leaky slurry pound of undetermined yellow stuff left from an abandoned military base. Super Clean please.
I lowered the front of my truck on to the bead of my rear tire and it would not break loose. These things can be a real PITA. Something buying a new wheel is better...for sanity and safety.
Should of just put a tube in it. Also you can pull the valve core out and put a couple ounces of plane old automatic transmission fluid in it. You will be surprised how well the ATF works
ATF? I haven't heard that. I'll have to experiment with that. I almost went with the tube but all the ones I could find locally, weren't much cheaper than a new tire.
CUT OFF THE OLD TIRE, use any circular saw, or grinder, use a good sized pry-tool (dull-rounded), to hold the tire away from the rim... cut the bead Also, use a large CLAMP , to break the bead... no air (hand ones work good) Lastly, use some motor oil around (both sides) of the new tire bead, and STAND on it to put it ONTO the rim, DON'T USE SOAPY WATER, USE OIL (one side first, use a clamp, use a rag to clean up the oil later) firmly hold onto something (pole, table) while you stand on it.
The easiest way to get the old tire off of the rim is to use your ox-acetylene torch set. Fill the tire with pure oxygen next you will need a two foot fuse.......lol 🤣

Thank you, the sunbathing makes a big difference for sure.
Great video , Jeff. Your presentation and pacing were excellent and the bits of humor made it enjoyable to watch. Keeping ones fingers away from between the tire bead and rim during inflation was my favorite as I'm fond of my fingers and opposed to pain!

You can also take a rope and foot piece of pipe ,wrap around the tire .
I have a question, my owners manual shows an inner tube (service item only) is a inner tube really required? And why is this a service item only?
I am going to do the same thing as you, but time 4 . I need some super clean.
Then you can work your way around. Don't try to take huge bites at a time.
Also, try to work with the rim on the bottom. Gravity is your friend. Especially when you start working with bigger tires. If you notice, at one point in the video, he can't lever the spoons into the middle because he's trying to pull the rim out through the top and it's in the way.
Finally, keep in mind that the smaller the diameter of the center of the tire is, the harder it will be to remove and mount. And just like most things in life, lubrication is the key ;)
Yes! Back tire

But something you should do while the wheels are off. Pop off the rubber outer seal of each of the wheel bearings and re-pack them with grease. Mine were bone dry and probably original from 1994.
