- This product review shows real time how fast Coopers strip club goes through paint, there was 5 layers of paint on this corvette deck lid and in this video we go all the way down to fiberglass.
I have been hearing about this stuff.. thanks for the product review!!
no problem, glad you enjoyed it 👍
Try plastic bondo spreaders for scraping off the paint. Capt.lees paint stripper for corvette s
@@joedyer8824 yeah the plastic one wear out fast, this car had six layers of California baked paint on it 😮😮😂😂😂😂 thanks for watching 👍🏻🎥🎥
You pull the trigger back 2/3rds of the way and if the check ball inside sticks, squeeze the bottle and work the trigger.
Scrapping is never pushed forward, aways pull backwards. They sell the scraper head with rounded corners to not dig into the metal or gel coat. It is best to use in the shade as it will evaporate faster and use more product. Fords used Enamel, GM used Lacquer in the 60's-70's. Base / Clear Urethane are hard, then sun baked are harder yet. But Cooper's works on 4-7 cars. But do not use 34 or 36 grit sandpaper thinking you have to bust thru the top layer. That is a no-no, as you just make the metal thinner. 80-120 grit may help with multiple layers. Learning new products!
ASE Master Tech since 78, retired.
you are 100% correct on the sun being hard to work in. I try to do all the stripping early in the mornings before sun come over the ridge. i forgot to cover that in video, good catch. Thanks for watching
@@andhotrodshop I am always learning like a sponge in a bucket of water. I never went to a trade school, I think they had some around in the 70’s. Our high school was new built next to the original grade school, but no shop! The only class they offered was drafting. It was the era of an apprenticeship in a two man shop. $6 per flat rate hour and we used the chart in the front of the “Motors” shop manual. Plus, the only part that came in a box was a new part from the dealer, so we rebuilt everything. I got real ill one winter and did get paid. I went to the city to a dealer to get benefits.
One day the service mgr ask me to take these test. He said no one was interested and offered $0.05 cents per each test I passed. Never thought about it, went in and took all 8 test in the same evening. Boy was I stupid. 60 questions on each test and I finished, the proctor fell asleep and I was the only one left. So, 2 or 3 months later, a package came to the service mgr. I thought I was in trouble when he called into his office. He had the package open then ask me if I knew what I had done? What! He said that out of 8 test with 60 questions each I missed 3 questions. I was the second highest score in the nation.
I was shocked and I told him I never studied for the test because I went to a Ted Nugent concert that weekend. The test was on Monday. Of course it was Ted Nugent and the Amboy Dukes back then. But it was also the National Institute for Service Excellence back then to. It was shorten a few years later.
Best of luck! DK
@@deankay4434 i must have been doing better, i started a $7 per hour 😂😂😂😂🔧🔧🔧🔧
@@andhotrodshop Yes you did because that was customer pay in the first shop. The guy made his money off the parts I installed.
At the dealer, customer pay was $24 and I made $6.80 per flat rate. But I was offered $0.05 nickel for each ASE test I passed, so got a $0.40 cent raise. But good for you!
I started a little after 78, that's why I got $7 per hour. rates when up by then. 👍🔧👌
You can be pretty sure that Coopers Strip Club is mostly or completely methylene chloride, which can still be legally sold in New Zealand. They are getting a good price for methylene chloride.
@@foggymtnbreakdown it’s expensive, but it works 👍🏻🙌🏼👊🏼
@@andhotrodshop I agree!
I'm impressed, you didn't have to seal it with plastic sheets to make it work. 😉
this stuff really does work, I'm not sponsored by them, would be cool if I was. But I'm not 😂🔧👍
I live in Australia and I've never seen this product for sale here but I'll definitely be buying some direct from the company for my vehicle restorations.
Do you happen to know if it'll strip old grey etch primer and work on parts that have old dried up greasy crude and dirt?
They were out of New Zealand, you should be able to get it there in Australia
It worked slower on greasy spots but it still worked. Maybe I will bring some to Australia when we ever make it there, it’s one of my last continents to get 🙌🏼👍🏻👊🏼
how long did it take to strip that panel?
@@ulyssesvazquez387 it took I think 3 times of working on it to clean hood. The more layers, the more stubborn it will be to come off. Less layers to will come right off, I think that hood had 6 layers of paint on it 👍🏻🔧👊🏼 thanks for watching 🙌🏼🎥🎥
Yeah this product is big in australia. Really good product
Yeah it’s good stuff, it’s expensive, but you can’t argue that it works. Thanks for watching 👍🏻🙌🏼🎥🎥🔧🔧🔧
I've never heard of this, seen it for sale and when asking paint and smash repairs suppliers about a good "aircraft stripper type product for paint" they all look at me like I'm speaking an alien language.
Does it work faster if you scuff the paint before applying?
Yes if you break thru the sun baked layer it goes faster 👍🏻👊🏼🙌🏼🔧🔧🔧 thanks for watching 👍🏻👊🏼🎥🎥
The EPA took methylene chloride off the public market. Now, new "Air Craft Stripper" is John Wayne soap. It won't take shz off anything!
yeah it doesn't do much
The Aircraft stripper has been reformulated once again, it now works OK, but not as fast as Coopers.
anything would have to be better than the can I got 🤣😂🤦♂️🤦♂️ thanks for watching, subscribe if you haven't already 👍👌
I was checking out their website and it looks like just a 3 liter can of stripper with the flusher and such is $250 and their coverage states that only covers 20-40 sq feet....does that coverage sound right to you? Your hood is probably close to 20sq feet. Did you use almost the whole 3L??? It looked like you didn't use much at all.
I actually did the whole car with 3 cans, now I will say your coverage will depend upon how many layers of paint and what those paints were made of. Some sections of the car went fast and others we very stubborn. But yes 3 cans was what I used. 👍🏻👊🏼🔧🙌🏼🙌🏼 thanks for watching 👍🏻👊🏼🙌🏼🔧🎥🎥🎥
@@andhotrodshop what size cans was it? They have a 1L, 2L, 5L cans....trying to gauge how much I'll need. This stuff is so dang expensive I might just stick with sanding 😂
@@stephenwhite5444 I used 3 of the big cans, believe they were the 5L. Think that’s what they were, yes it’s really expensive, but time is money and this stuff saves so much time. So you have to weigh out what is your time worth? 🤣👍🏻🙌🏼💸💰💸
@@andhotrodshop wow, I'm really surprised that one car took 15L, I thought it would go farther. So did it go really fast? How many hours do you estimate you spent stripping the whole car?
@@stephenwhite5444 I will add that this corvette was painted 6 times, so there was a lot of California sun baked paint on the car. If your car doesn’t have this many coats of paint it may not take this much, I spent several months doing this, take in mind I stop for the heat of the day because it dries on parts before it strips it in the heat of day
Where do you get the Coopers Strip Club products in the US?
coopers strip club com, it ships from new Zealand in a DHL package right to your house
@@andhotrodshop Yes I have just received mine. I'm in Australia though. Not yet used the product but I was sufficiently impressed by what I had seen to give it a go. I am using it on wood at this point. Normal stripper is savage on wood and I thought there had to be a better product available.
@@bernardkroeger4045 I have not tried it on wood, but I cant imagine it not doing a great job. but let us know how it works, and thanks for watching. don't forget to subscribe if haven't already
squeeze the bottle if you're losing prime..it will loosen up the ball-bearing
will have to try that, bottles are junk good thing stripper works so well 😂😂😂😂
@@andhotrodshop yeah it's definitely a good stripper, I've been using it for a few years now.. it's nearly mission impossible to find a good spray bottle these days but I'm always in the market for a good one
The company says you shouldn't use it on fiberglass because it will eat the chemicals that bond the fiders
have not seen that, that would be a direct contradiction to the video that coopers put out where they are stripping a corvette with same stuff I am using. check out the video on their website.
@@andhotrodshop on DIY auto they have a interview with the wife of the owner and says don't use on fiberglass or plastic the interview is only a few days old and you are right the videos do show them using on fiberglass but from the time the video was made to the time the interview was done they could have found out its bad on fiberglass look up diy auto school you will find coopers strip club video and at end the interview
@@master886786 I found the interview you are talking about. I listened to it twice just to make sure I heard right she did NOT say to not use this product on fiberglass, she said don't leave the stripper on fiberglass, make sure you use flusher. which totally makes sense to me. and she did say it eats some plastics, I'm sure it does depending upon makeup of that plastic
@@andhotrodshop yes i herd it wrong i don't do much with fiberglass and I would think if it strip paint even thick hard paint i would think the harder that holds the fibers together would get weaken the structure from the vids this stuff works good i definitely would not trust it on fiberglass body of say a old string ray but as I said I herd it wrong and definitely mistaken i did think I heard dont use on fiberglass but maybe it was peat that said that not her
$250 per gallon!?
How many gallons do you suspect to do a typical car? You seem to be blasting through a quart on a small deck lid.
Worth every penny
@@Poindexters-Obsession we went thru 3 gallons on the corvette. But it had 5 layers of paint, so you will have to base it upon how much paint is on your car, but it’s worth it 🙌🏼👍🏻👊🏼👊🏼
both products smell horrible. Make sure you use it in a well ventilated area. I ordered and thinking it won't be that bad but after one use, I went back to Citristrip. Yes iStristrip takes 3 to 4 hours to work instead of 20 mins, but well worth the nasty smell this thing has.
I wear a full respirator when I’m doing it 👍🏻🙌🏼👊🏼
It will take 10 gallons to strip that car
That’s pretty close, I bought 9 gallons and I got about 1 1/2 left over 🤣🤣🤣🔧🔧🔧
Little to no effort at all
Well I wouldn’t say no effort 🤣🤣 but yes the easiest way I have found so far to strip paint. Please give us a subscribe if you haven’t already and thanks for watching 👍🏻🙌🏼👊🏼
