As a vocalist and guitar player...what Phil is doing live....is top tier calibur. He could tour with his song list. He is better than 95% of what the pop culture is trying to feed us all. Rock lives.
Malmsteen, MacAlpine and other great guitarists have been playing to audiences of only 200 since around 1994 because only guitarists are interested in other guitarists.
Andrew Howsmon he has done everything he possibly can to make that thing stay in tune lol. Graphite nut etc, Wouldn’t be surprised if he uses titanium hardware lol
+Robert Burns He's with Bon Jovi now, but still have no studio work from him with the band. Burning Bridge's guitar parts were recorded by John Shank the producer.
Thank you for posting these awesome vids. Love Phil X and his bands (The Drills & Powder). Every time I listen to him I feel a compulsion to go and practice, as he all makes us look like beginners. Thanks again. Peace & Rock. T23.
@toobasaurus23 Lets thank Phil for letting them be posted too! My pleasure though, obviously fun to edit right. Thanks for watching the videos and visiting the channel, lots more to come.
I had no idea he was Canadian. This guy is top level talent. I'm sure he could have done anything he wanted to do musically. Can't blame the guy for being a hired gun. Would love to see this guy play live if we went out on his own!
great playing dude . I still marvel at the sheer quality of Page's roffs . If I could only play like Phil and think like Jimmy Page .... ( is that too much to ask lol ?)
@rockynashfilms no i know he does that or he uses the tuning keys, but i have seen some video where he plays the 12th fret e and b string harmonics then he starts turning his guitar and the note lowers while he does it
He's got alot of key issues but heck when the rubber hits the road and I mean ''HIT'' you're not gonna find a whole better answering to the call as of what we can relate to! If you've got a guitar you're curious about he's there, how it is and not be,.. dangit he's one key to bringing it on no ifs and buts about it,..plus he is a small step that fills some really ''BIG'' shoes to fill and in critical terms he displays a prowess very seldom seen and it is a crazy business so the crazier the better!
@mattparrish123 In the light is the first, then it goes to Misty Mountain Hop which is the one he sings on. In the light is off of Physical Graffiti, Misty Mountain Hop is off of Led Zeppelin IV.
@yamahabmxer1, @heyhelveeoneforeyt A P94 in the bridge position, which is a P90 shaped like a humbucker. He leaves the neck position empty, and sometimes puts a fan cage over the hole.
At the 0:44 second mark, the riff is from "In the light". Wasn't sure if that might have been the riff you were talking about since its lesser known than Misty Mountain Hop.
@gtamodman122 It's not sg, it's ESP LTD Viper. they look very similar and it's clearly inspired in the sg, but this one is asymmetrical (and some other differences, but in the body that's the most characteristic)
@w1wang You don't bend the neck. You just press, then depress the string down on the "keyside" of the nut. No need to bend the neck since you are directly bending the string.
Hey Rocky long time no see. Havn't seen you since the Lana days parties on Markwood and the Robinsons. Maybe once or twice at the Pennysaver. Was this at the Station or Shooters? When I was working there and Phil did the jam nights.

If he wants to be famous he has to write his own songs.

HOLY CRAP! AMAZING!

@arvalera23 He is pressing down on the string and then releasing it. For a nice explanation see the Guitar clinic videos on the rockynashfilms site.

The guy totally rocks!!!
Insane flight of the bumblebee shred in the beggining.
@spencyj Phil is using a Roppoli plexi replica head. Right up there with Metroamp and Friedman.
