  • When I first started making wooden flags, they would bow, bend and not be square. This wooden flag jig has saved me time, increased production, and helps me create quality wooden flags, repeatedly.
I use this jig for a variety of flag sizes as well as some other products such. as the American Flag bottle openers I make and some 3/4" Charcuterie Boards. It can also be adjusted to fit multiple sized products such as thick cutting boards by changing the bolts that. are used.
    Time: 30-60 Minutes
    Supplies Used:
    2'X4' - 3/4" Plywood
    1x3x8 Pine
    Some Scrap wood
    8 - 1/4" x 2 -3/4" Carriage Bolts
    8 - 1/4" Washers
    8 - 1/4" Wing Nuts
    16G Brad Nails
    Tools Used:
    Miter Saw
    Table Saw
    16G Brad Nailer
    Drill
    1/4" Drill Bit
    Tips:
    1. Put Saran Wrap on the plywood BEFORE laying down the work piece for glue up. It will keep the piece from sticking to the jig.
    2. Number your. braces so it's an easy fit each time.
    3. Use 1/2" plywood or MDF for a cheaper jig setup

Great video, I have made some flags in the past, but this jig should make it easier to put together! Thanks for sharing!

Hi. Good video. I made one like this also on my channel. Like you, I got the idea somewhere online and developed my own version. With your design, you could retrofit some bolts with t nuts that would give horizontal clamping pressure and eliminate the need for the f clamps. Also, several coats of poly could keep the glue from sticking. I used old flooring which keeps the flag from getting glued down. Just some thoughts. Nice work!

I know this is a bit unrelated to the jig but when you ship the flags, approximately how much does it costs? I’ve had several people ask me to ship them. I’ve seen them listed on websites and offer free shipping and I don’t know how they are able to do that.

How do you keep the downward pressure reinforcement boards from being glued to the top of the flag ?

Effective and simple. Nice job. I'm thinking about making some burnt flags out of scrap wood and pallets etc..Who knows they might just pay for a box of ammo or two.

You are a brave man to keep an aquarium in your shop. I would have banged into it with a 2x4 after the first 10 minutes.Great video build, BTW.

I just made this a couple days ago. I used a mix up of various scraps I had for the braces though. A little bit of 1x3, some 1x whatever. Lol. But the concept is the same. Fun fact, apparently there is a shortage of wing nuts in Illinois or something. I went to farm and fleet, home depot and ace hardware and none to be found. I could see where they’re supposed to be but the shelves were empty. I had to order them on Amazon. Insane!!

That's a great idea you have there. Love it. You just gave me an idea for a different use as well. Also, another cheap way you can prevent the boards from sticking to the plywood is laying down some duct tape on the entire surface or sealing the board with some poly. I've used the duct tape before and it works good and the clamping boards come right off...

Just a reminder to everyone. Don’t be a bonehead like me and forget to put the Saran Wrap on the jig!!! Felt pretty stupid prying my flag up tonight. Lol.

It looks really good. I’ve actually already sold five of them in the past 24 hours. I put them Facebook marketplace. There are a lot of people selling them so I figured I’d give it a twist. For every sale I’m donating a portion to the Gary Sinise Foundation. I make a little money, people get a nice flag, and they get to help a great organization. Win,win, win.

On the border strip, do you put 1" side flat against board or turn it upward for 1" high?

    • @chrisfarley9213
      @chrisfarley9213 2 роки тому

Looks like he puts it flat against the board, that way its the same height as the stripes and clamps down. If it was on its side it would be no point to have braces lol.
