    Great Information. When I cut my wood slats for a wood flag I end up with a few slats that are curved in the center (don't know why), causing me to not use that wood or if the curve is not too bad to clamp the slats together tight that results in uneven surface, any suggestion on this issue? Thanks.

    • @PawPawsWorkShop
      @PawPawsWorkShop  4 роки тому

      Usually this is because of wet wood. It will warp, bow, and cup quickly after cutting as the result of the wood drying unevenly.

    • @mikeledee8786
      @mikeledee8786 4 роки тому +1

      So those boards are unused for the flag, correct?

    • @PawPawsWorkShop

    Thank you so much for sharing. I will be making one as soon as I can. Question for you: are you not using any glue? Is it true that if you use glue the flag will wrap after some time?

    • @PawPawsWorkShop
      @PawPawsWorkShop  5 років тому +2

      It all depends on the wood you use. Many people use to lowest grade of wood possible. High moisture and splits and knots all cause problems.

    I see you did screw your bars to the jig. Was it easier than having them loose? I have a small shop. Would there be any down fall of assembling this upright (15 degree) lean compared to laying flat? Thanks for the jig design.

    The quarter inch strips on your jig.. Are they on all 6 clamps.. or just the 3 top ones??

    • @PawPawsWorkShop
      @PawPawsWorkShop  3 роки тому +1

      You only need them on the top clamps. It is necessary to provide extra clamping power to the jig.

    Paw Paw: Do you glue each slat to one another...or just glue the keepers down before nailing or screwing. And do you nail or screw?

    • @PawPawsWorkShop

    • @PawPawsWorkShop
      @PawPawsWorkShop  4 роки тому +1

      Cedar is a very soft wood and will work just fine. It will require sanding of the stars to clean up the edges. This wood will have a lot of fuzzies.

    • @PawPawsWorkShop
      @PawPawsWorkShop  4 роки тому +1

      It is more personal preference. I like using a separate union with premium pine. It has no knots and it carves very well. Thank you very much for the question.

      Some one asked the question about solid union or striped union. If you mess up a flag a little easier to correct the unions if one piece. If not I've had to ditch a flag bevause their was problems woth the union.

    hey paw paw what actual size are your 1x2's are they 1.5?....where do you but them..? like i said at lowes they were only 1.4375 wide but i used furring strips 1x2...maybe if i look at the premium 1x2 it will be 1.5 wide but cost a lot more??....the furring strips are rounded on edges and not square

    • @PawPawsWorkShop
      @PawPawsWorkShop  5 років тому

      I actually don't use the 1x2. I purchase my wood from Home Depot. I find that it is of better quality than Lowes. I don't like the 1x2 because of the rounded edges and the size. I used the 1x4 furring strips and cut the edge off first on one side, then cut to the 1.5 that I need. The edges are sharp. However, after that flag, I use the 2x4 and resaw, then cut to size. It's more labor intense, but it is a lot cheaper and I get a better quality flag than using the furring strips. Being on a fixed income, every penny counts. I pick through the 2x4s carefully to get the best ones.

      hi paw apw..i dont have a workshop like you so i have to buy my stuff with least amount of after purchase work...i dont have the tools or the table saw skills to be cutting down etc etc..for now .i dont mind the rounded edges it gives the flag some dimension depth to it ...i think if i make another one i will just reduce my union to 10 1/8 and use the 1x2 furring strips that are smaller width but real cheap and easy..takes a while to find straight ones lol..but worth it...either way its done the final product looks good... thank you....@@PawPawsWorkShop

    Hi paw paw... Ive been reviewing all the youtube millionaires and it seems if you can grab a guitar and play a van halen or led zeppelin or jimmy hendrix song you can become a millionaire within 1-2 yrs... If you are a young kid .. So why dont you team up with one of your grandkids and grab a geetar and get to work on a video... It seems many parents and grandparents are doing this and using their kids to become millionaires... :) youtube is making it just too easy to become a millionaire .. The days of working hard and going to,school and learning are slowly becoming extinct and you can thank the internet and sites like youtube and facebook for this disturbing trend....
