The 2 songs flow perfectly together.Legendary album. You are right that this was Neil and it is what made him special. He stood out from the crowd and still does!
I've always loved his Comes a Time album... thanks for doing all these Neil Young reactions, nice to see!
Yes ,love all the content
Please listen to the album
Comes a time..great
will do. thanks for stopping by :)
I grew up listening to Neil Young and the Buffalo Springfield, and the Birds and the Hollies. Neil and Stephen Stills both went on to rock legendary greatness along with David Crosby and Graham Nash. It was like growing up listening to Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, and Chopin (Crosby,. Stills, Nash, and Young, in whichever order you wish to place them). This musical genius will never be repeated.
I'm pretty sure Nils played piano on both.
Nitzsche was very skeptical about his piano role. Nils Lofgren described him as "a little looped, and not convinced he should be playing piano on this song. One minute he would be up for it and just love the music, the next it would 'I'm not gonna do it.'"
He may have actually quit before getting the final record down, but Young continued pushing him.
This is the last record, to Young's recollection, that Crazy Horse guitarist Danny Whitten played on. "He wasn't lookin' too good at that point," Young said.
Whitten was the central inspiration for "The Needle And The Damage Done" and one of the key inspirations for the Tonight's The Night album.
According to Jimmy McDonough in Shakey, the band can be heard talking during the song's solo. His ears might be better than ours, but we can't discern it.
Love the way the 2 songs blend and segue into each other its perfect
Piano is fantastic on When You Dance
Neil plays piano on Birds. Jack Nitzsche on When You Dance.
there's a Live version of KEEP ON ROCKIN' IN A FREE WORLD with Pearl Jam.
I believe when he first started out, a record producer or critic , after listening to him, told him to stick to the guitar. I find he plays the guitar like he sings. Both might not be technically great, but perhaps, that is what makes him great, along with his fantastic song writing !
authenticity and honesty always go the furtherst
Looks like both Nils Lofgrin and Neil did keyboards so not sure who did this but Niels wasn't too comfortable on piano...he s more guitar so this may have been Neil
If someone sang like Neil Young these days their voice would be autotuned.
I'd kinda like to hear that because it might be hilarious! lol
funny yes, but no thanks !
I always loved his voice so it's not perfect the flaws add a lot to the honesty of all his work.
Linda Ronstadt does just a beautiful version of "Birds"..
The 'feathers falling' to guide you was in the book, Clan of the Cave Bear.....Daryl Hannah starred in the movie. Neil married Daryl.
Neal, similar to the work of Bob Dylan, placed little emphasis on traditional vocal qualities. Both were/are more about writing, though their vocal sound itself created something special in their delivery. I like the comparison of painting techniques of the Dutch masters, as opposed to the style of the Impressionists. Less of stringent discipline, and more emotion.
Not bad :) Peace and love
I prefer vocalists who have style more than voices that sound professionally trained. Jagger, Young, Dylan, Tom Petty, Axl Rose, Kurt Cobain, David Lee Roth, Joplin, James Brown, Little Richard, etc. These are people who aren't among the greatest singers but use a personal style they've created to get their message across. Dylan was the first to show that you don't have to be a trained vocalist or crooner to get your message across. Little Richard has the most imitated vocal stylings of anyone in Rock history.
tom petty is the most unknown to me among these you have listed. thanks for the suggestion(s)
