5:22 The reason why the Prime Minister Kantaro Suzuki raised his eyebrows when he heard the army-navy "balls" conversation was that he got shot close up to the balls by rebellious soldiers during the Feburary 26 coup attempt in 1936. This was also mentioned in a scene earlier in the movie. Back then he was accused of being a "pacifist" and because he served in the navy (with a rather illustrious service record) was targeted by radical army officers and soldiers. He got shot several times in his residence and the rebels intended to finish him off with samurai swords, but his wife shielded him with her own body and the rebels left. Ironically Suzuki lived to become the biggest "pacifist" of Japan as he led the final war cabinet during Japan's surrender.
Also, this is a great movie and a decent remake of the 1967 classic. Definitely worth watching.
and then, to everyones horror, he actually did show them.
💀
Man of his words🫡
Its okay, he said “no homo” first
"See? Each of them is as large as the Yamato!"

The Japanese army and navy hated each other. They barely cooperated.
Yes indeed that they don't have an air force.
Indepently.
This is because from what I know the Japanese navy and army was created from different clans during the boshin war, and they hated each other
They fought a war within themselves while fighting the world number one industry...
@@germanfisch it dates back even further.
in short, they hated each other because both sides kinda own each other's historical pride.
During the Sengoku period,
Shimazu was famous for its powerful army. while Mori was famous for its Navy.
After foreign power knocking on Tokugawa's door,
Shimazu became Satuma Domain, started building its own Western Navy.
Mori, later became Choshu Domain, started building a Western Army.
now imagine evey time you see the other side achieve a certain glory, that'll ruin mood.
but it doesn't stop there, because it'll stack up with political wars and budget wars.
Johnny is everything alright?
Superb as always! Looks like i have a movie to stream this weekend!
The same thing: Inter service rivalry
With a hint of warlord mentality. it was because the IJN estabilshed by Satsuma Domain and IJA was Choshu Domain. They were different samurai clans.
I wonder does modern Japanese military, still has inter service rivalry till today.
At that point, it is inter-service war...
Rearranging the deckchairs..? ...very interesting stuff...cheers, Johnny...E
Most people believe the fire bombing of Tokyo was revenge, it was not. Japan's factories and mills had almost all been bombed out so the smaller parts; rifles, carburetors, small engine parts etc became a cottage industry with every citizen expected to do their part. The population of Tokyo-Yokohama was almost 6 million at that time, that's still a pretty big workforce.
The book: Black Snow, Curtis LeMay and the fire bombing of Tokyo, addresses your comment in great detail. You should read it.
@@raywhitehead730 I would if I could. OCD, a brain injury and too many concussions mean I have the attention span of a walnut.

The Emperor in August.
To everyone who ever said the Japanese didn’t deserve the fire bombing or the nukes never met an imperial Japanese
Well, everyone who says they deserved it never met an Imperial Japanese either. They only hear what they were told...
They pay for it and now they get punishment with assassin creed shadow and dragon ball live action
They fought each other, even when they already had their country burned to the ground ?
What movie is this?

Try to spell your title correctly. It's spelled "its" without an apostrophe. This is junior high school stuff. With an apostrophe it means "it is" which is totally different.
Correct me if I'm wrong. In this case isn't "it's" meant in the possessive sense? "The Navy has lost its own fleet" I see this everywhere, Sofa's are us is the big one. Next in line for me is the mathematically illiterate store clerk. The bill is $5.15, you hand over $10.25 and out comes the calculator. I've also seen "suposedto" written as one word. Modern schools are mostly nine years of daycare followed by three years of cell phone usage. Our future leaders and the nucular bomb! God help us all.
@@dicksonfranssen there is no possessive "its" with an apostrophe. the apostrophe "it's" either is "it is" or "it was" etc. and its without the apostrophe is for everything else. including possession. like "the dog lost its toy." it is correct for there to be no apostrophe there.
