Brian "Head" Welch (KORN): Overcoming Addiction Story

  • He left KoRn to help himself. He went back to help others. And along the way, he nearly lost everything.
A life-changing spiritual awakening freed Brian “Head” Welch from a stranglehold of drugs and alcohol and prompted him to leave the highly successful nu-metal band KoRn in 2005. What followed was a decade-long trial by fire, from the perils of fathering a teen lost in depression and self-mutilation to the harsh realities of playing solo. Perhaps most inspiring is Brian’s radical decision to rejoin KoRn and reconcile with the tribe of people he once considered family in the metal music scene.
Brian returned to his musical roots with a clear head and a devoted heart. Though his story is wild, hilarious, and deeply poignant, the message is simple: God will love you into the freedom of being yourself, as long as you keep the relationship going and never, ever quit.

Thank you Brian for not speaking ill of your ex wife. You always mentioned how much she loved her daughter. That's so important to Jennea's mental & emotional well being. Also remember that Jonah was called to Niniveh, which was a city of debauchery & idol worship. You've been brave & courageous to minister where others could never go. I like what one recently paroled pastor imagined the Lord said to Jonah while he was in the belly of the whale running FROM God's call on his life... God challenged Jonah to choose which end of the fish he wanted to exit? Jonah relented & went to Nineveh. Thanks for going Brian.

Brian is awesome. Been a fan of his for a very long time. It's awesome to see his walk with Jesus. I hope one day I can get right with the Lord... I've struggled all my life.. ALWAYS gone back and forth.. something always ends up pushing me away no matter how hard I try. I wish it came easy to me like it does so many others.. I hear so many people talk about miracles.. or that heavenly presence... That's never happened for me. I wish that it would... before it's too late.

So glad you enjoyed this @kornfreak78 and thanks for sharing some of your story. Walking with the Lord is hard. And to be honest, even if it looks like faith came easy to someone, there will always be a time when it won't. We're all imperfect people just trying to know God and let Him change us. Is there anything we can be praying for you about today?

🙏🙏🙏 As Brian said, he's had some words with God, but he knows he exists, so he's in it for the long haul. Same here, there have been times where I was really tested and just me knowing God exists, was all I needed to keep going. Even if I didn't make it, or I thought there was a good chance that I wouldn't make it, the goal is so much more than this life has to offer, that anybody would be a fool not to take the chance at real life...

this is recent vid right? I honestly relate to Brian a LOT. Our salvation stories are similar--- it is totally ongoing.... it is a process.... Guys I just want to say one thing. Once you are saved. You DO NOT lose your salvation no matter what you do. Please read Job- at least Job 33. Brian never quit---- it is a relationship and totally genuine between you and Him. The pain is hard- I know it is- it is for me too--- but remember, YOUR FAITH is stronger. He is already carrying you through, even if you are crying in bed, screaming, Jesus is with you- it's apart of the process.

100% do u know howwww many churches believe that? Totally false. If you ask me, he was immediately saved when he was a kid.

There is actually only ONE WAY to lose your salvation z& that is if you came to feel and you say THERE IS NO GOD. But that is the only way you aren’t saved. I know someone like that & I married him in 2004. Recently he has come to me to let me know he does believe in God. So I’m praying he will accept a Christ as his savior soon!!! I’m hoping he walks the aisle on Christmas Eve! That would be the best Christmas present ever!!!

Right..... Once we're saved, we're saved, but God will punish us more harshly than he would if we weren't saved because he expects more from us. God knows we're not perfect, so he knows we'll mess up. Some more than others, but we all mess up and there's no certain amount of sins we can make in order to lose our salvation. Like I said, he will punish us more harshly because we are his kids, but he wont kick us out of his house... 🙏🙏🙏

I agree with you. I cut my hair and quit listening to that music also. I refuse to listen to Korn anymore because there music was apart of me falling away into drugs and alcohol. Brian's testimony is touching ground the clean cut church goer could never penetrate though. Some people are just not relatable and though I disagree with him remaining in Korn, I see the comments. His testimony is drawing people In who would never considered Jesus Christ before. Times are very wicked and God is going to call once wicked people to testify of Jesus Christ in these last days. The Lord God Almighty can Not be placed in religious phariseic box. I cant Express enough Gods love and mercy toward all men and woman. Let us show mercy and trust God. His ways are not ours. Love, mercy and truth to our brethren and our enemies. We have to cover all grounds and stop the religious finger pointing. Christ is the end of the law and the law is summed up in this. Love thy neighbor as thyself.
