    Great video! So I am a Custom Framer and a client asked me to mount their shed on velvet in a shadowbox. Having never done it before your video was the only one I found that dealt with sheds and not tanned snake hide. Your information on moistening the skin is going to be really helpful in the process. I’m hoping I can get it all laid out the way he wants. He gave me 3 sheds to practice with plus the good one he wants mounted. Wish me luck!

      Hey Smokey thanks for watching and for the question. As of right now we do not have a laminator big enough to do snake skins. So we will use laminating companies that are close to our zoo. Sometimes you can get staples to do it as long as their aint a sissy that works their and to afraid to touch a snake skin.

I was wondering if you could send me some to experiment this art. I love snake skin colors and patterns, very interesting to me. Please can I get some from you? Do you have a method of sanitizing any messy sheds? Would diluting bleach or a gentle soap in water be safe and prevent damage? My first snake had his first shed and I would love to preserve it, but he, uh, made a mess in it, hah.

    • @ReptileRangers
      @ReptileRangers  3 роки тому +4

      lolol I know exactly what your talking about and yes it is nasty when they do that. As for sanitizing soap and water very gently is the best option once you have it opened up and the crap out of it. Bleach may be a bit to much and break it down faster than you would like as it is meant to be a cleaning agent that breaks down matter that you are trying to clean from surfaces. Hi Chad & Bailey. Thanks for the awesome video. I have a good shed from my corn snake. Its a year or two old & ive noticed its startin to get flaky... tiny lil bits are falling off. I would like to preserve it. Is this still possible? What should i do?

    • @ReptileRangers
      @ReptileRangers  3 роки тому +2

      Hey Maas Lumking thanks for watching and commenting. Ok so their are 2 ways to keep the shed as long as possible. One if the sheds is already starting to get flacky then you can use oils or some form of lubricant to make the shed more pliable again and not so brittle and dry. But as the shed dries out it will be easier to fall apart. The other way is better and more permanent and is to have the shed laminated and that will be a more permanent situation for the shed as long as it stays in the plastic casing. Just make sure you go to a company with plenty of experience because you only get one real shot with the laminating however once done its done now worries from their.

      @@ReptileRangers thank you. Id like to laminate. I hant cut it tho. I had stretched it out n cleaned it when it was fresh but left it in that state. At this point: would u recommend i moisten, cut and flatten? Or should i just laminate it the way it is?

    • @ReptileRangers
      @ReptileRangers  3 роки тому +2

      @@maaslumking1834 thats going to actually be hard to answer seeing i dont have it directly in my hand to see and feel how dry and brittle it is or is not. You will just have to make the best decision in this case you can based off what you know about your shed. Now to be clear the shed does not have to be soaking wet to cut it and open it up just moist enough that it will become stretchy.
