This band was White and was on the Motown label. Motown knew what they were doing when they signed these guys. They could be funky and they could rock..
First off, thank you for taking on the long version of this. Not many reactors will give a full album side track a listen. It's obvious that these guys had a lot of love and respect for Motown. Good stuff.
They definitely did great justice to this song, Rare Earth doesn't get enough credit. An interesting thought for you guys, Motown records made the rock n roll branch of the label because of these guys, so ive read numerous times
Somebody knew what they were doing when they mic'ed that kit for the board, shit is gorgeous and warm and even has a bit of shimmer in that hi-hat in the central jam underneath all the guitarcrobatics - I wonder if the key is in the ambient parts of the recording - That and the tambourine are star players. Only the second time I've heard this version and the album is right in the basement
How great was that version? Wow, they were so underrated, catch their live videos from the early to mid 70s and see along with hearing, how great they really were. Great jam.
This is off of Rare Earth's debut album, and every song is a well-oiled and well-harmonized mix of Detroit soul, Rythem, and Blues. Gil Bridges' saxophone solos are always the album's highlight, along with the soulful singing. They had a way of putting just a little extra flare to the cover songs they recorded. This debut album is by far their best effort. Great commentary and input on the vocals and musicianship, guys. No one can break down a song like Airplay Beats.
Another hit written by Smokey Robinson, which resulted in two hit records for the label: a U.S. No. 29 version by The Temptations in 1966, and a U.S. No. 4 version by Rare Earth in 1970.
. What a great bass line. Lead vocals fantastic. Sax amazing. Man, I LLOVED it! Motown with fantastic instrumental playing..and jamming. What’s not to love?
That was reminiscent of most of the concerts I saw in the 70's in which the rest of the band would take a break mid song and the drummer would do a solo when the rest of the band got a drink.
This song is on my all time favorites playlist, along with "I Just Want to Celebrate" by them is also FIRE! I ALWAYS have to get up and dance when this comes on! 😂 Deep dive on them is well worth it. Their "California Jam" LIVE concert is so worth checking out! Thank you both.
Recently came across your channel, great reaction and to the full album version!...Lead singer is also the drummer, keeps driving the whole band thru it, not to date myself but still remember buying the album back in 69, man i wore it out!!!
The only way to describe the lead singer's voice, he has a superb, soulful quality that fits in any category of music! I'm hearing "more" in the future!
For more Psychedelic Rock please react to IRON BUTTERFLY - IN A GADDA DA VIDA - 1968 (ORIGINAL FULL VERSION) Warning - acid trippy, shroomy, psychedelic flashing lights for those that have focal triggers
Was a group in my youth that was amazing. Never got the fame it should have. I . Dont remember this intro. Mostly on the radio during this era. More please
My son's band played "Get Ready" he's a bassist. Best friend played drums..their band played "I JUST WANT TO CELEBRATE" at their High Schools last dance. Big Hit!!!🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎹🎹🎹🎤🎶🎤
Great cover of the Temptations classic. The flip side Tobacco Road is another great song by Rare Earth! Dennis Coffy was another White Motown group or artist!
Most artists/groups want/do put on great shows,, but there were a certain few that truly went out of their way/above & beyond to not only put on a great show,, but also were very interactive with the audience to make SURE you truly had fun/enjoyed yourself,, like Rare Earth,, The J. Geils Band & Grand Funk Railroad.
Written by Smokey Robinson, “Get Ready” was first a hit for the Temptations, in 1966. Rare Earth, who were then known in and around Detroit as the Sunliners, added the song to their concert setlist that same year.
My favorite male singing drummer of all time. I've been a Rare Earth fan from the first moment I heard them. I just found your channel. You've got great taste. It's like you raided my teen record collection. Thank you!
Old school friend and I , went to Pleasant Grove Elementary School in Lansing, MI ... Floyd Stokes Jr ... has been their drummer for 3 decades. This recording was done where we were in Grade School . This was the best version you could have picked to represent RE
They wanted to pay tribute & show absolute respect to the original,, they not only 100% achieved that,, but they were also even able to expand upon it.
This is the best and the definitive version of this song. It is just too good! I always get disappointed when I hear it come on the radio, cuz I know it's going to be the super short radio version.
Hello La & Che. Love your reactions and believe you need to listen to Loggins & Messina "Angry Eyes" its another long song but worth taking the time to hear it. I LIVE IN Detroit and I played in a golf league with the brother of Rare Earths John Parrish AKA Persh. Also went to High School with the Marvelettes. I'm a lucky man. At 77 I still love my music.
I’ve only heard the radio 45 version never this live full 20 minutes; loved it! A very cool rendition of the Temptations classic perhaps a bit too lengthy but not complaining 🥴 The band was on fire! Nice job as usual gentlemen ✌️😎
I'm glad I found your channel a few weeks ago! I've enjoyed binge watching. You guys put a smile on my face and a song in my heart! Being a young 61, I love the "all" the old classics. You guys are doing a great job! Keep em coming!😊
I’ve been listening to this since it came out and have never heard this extended live version! Thanks for sharing and reacting to this. I live Rare Earth!
This was a fantastic live band and growing up not far from Detroit we got to see them play many times. Got to meet the guys in the band 17 years ago when I took my wife and daughter to see them
The drummer is also the lead singer. Very unusual, and hard to do. As a drummer myself, we know, it's way more difficult to sing as a drummer, than as a guitar, Bass, or even a keyboard player.
DRUMMER IS LEAD SINGER!!! SAW THEM LIVE IN 80'S.👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🎹🎸🎤🎶🎵🎸🎹👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
The only other time I've seen that is "The Romantics" What I like About You video, you can watch it there.
Same here! Saw them at the Cotillian in Wichita, KS in 1984.
This band was White and was on the Motown label. Motown knew what they were doing when they signed these guys. They could be funky and they could rock..
That snare drum is iconic.
The greatest Motown rock and roll band ever
YES, THEY PLAY ALL INSTRUMENTS!!! TALENT!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼❤❤❤❤❤
Nope that would be the Temptations !!!!
One of my top five favorite songs of all time! Headphones, black lights, attitudinal adjustment. 24 minutes gone in a flash. Thanks for sharing.
First off, thank you for taking on the long version of this. Not many reactors will give a full album side track a listen. It's obvious that these guys had a lot of love and respect for Motown. Good stuff.
Pete Riviera drummer and lead singer. Rare Earth could do R&B,Funk, rock Glad you liked this. Excellent reaction fellas. Much appreciated 🙏 ❤
I'm 66 and I never heard of this version either.
@@AtomicSquirrelHunterI'm 67... same here
Same here! 70 y.o.
@@jordimoore2167 I'm 72 never heard this version, I was really surprised.
As a bass player for the past 50 years....that bass was the most! Josh Parrish on bass, locked in like a beast
They definitely did great justice to this song, Rare Earth doesn't get enough credit. An interesting thought for you guys, Motown records made the rock n roll branch of the label because of these guys, so ive read numerous times
Yeah I remember the 45 being on rare earth records a division of Motown I read that a thousand times while I was playing the record!
That drummer can sang!
Wow. You did the album cut. Well, kudos to you guys.
Bands back in the late 60s early 70s could jam, don't know if today's bands could jam for 20 minutes and keep the groove
Phish
You guys are two cool cats if I say so. I love the way you both listen and appreciate music. Very astute commentary also.
Shame on you!!! Play that vinyl. 😊 ❤
@@6916dog lmao I totally agree, I need a new slipmat for the turntable so I can use it
Drummer Never misses a beat !
How great was that version? Wow, they were so underrated, catch their live videos from the early to mid 70s and see along with hearing, how great they really were. Great jam.
Kickin it live is the way to go for me. Vibin and watching makes the experience timeless.!
Thanks for this one! This band didn't get the credit they deserved.
Excellent choice . Love the older rock you've been reacting to. Haven't heard Rare Earth in ages ❤
Welcome to 1960's/1970' when bands left it all on the stage.
No computers, studio electronic wizardry and fake crap.Just talent and groove.
That snare drum sound Is 🔥. It's cracking!
The tonal quality of the drums can really make or break the way a song sounds. Most snare drums are kind of flat IMO. I love that fast, snappy sound!
That's called rim shots
I have always love the snare sound on this song!
So smooth, but sooo energetic, Rare Earth gets down
This is off of Rare Earth's debut album, and every song is a well-oiled and well-harmonized mix of Detroit soul, Rythem, and Blues.
Gil Bridges' saxophone solos are always the album's highlight, along with the soulful singing. They had a way of putting just a little
extra flare to the cover songs they recorded. This debut album is by far their best effort. Great commentary and input
on the vocals and musicianship, guys. No one can break down a song like Airplay Beats.
I don’t know…I loved their Ecology album as well
Wow, I always consider myself so lucky to have been a teenager in the 70's. Rare Earth was the 1st concert I went to.
This is the best cover song of all time in my opinion !! Keep up the great work fellas !!
Nice! When bands jammed at shows. This is late 60's early 70's style!
Y'all were NOT ready for this, but I'm enjoying the reaction and I can see the appreciation on your faces🤗
Another hit written by Smokey Robinson, which resulted in two hit records for the label: a U.S. No. 29 version by The Temptations in 1966, and a U.S. No. 4 version by Rare Earth in 1970.
I think I had only ever heard the single release (radio) version of this. '69 was an eventful year.
Took guts to follow the Temps.
Great song and reaction. The bass player was absolute 🔥🔥🔥. Haven’t heard thus version in over 40+ years.
thank you for playing the long version most people skip over - outtasight!
So glad you did the long version. So many are missing out on the reason we called this the party album.
Get Ready, Here they come..
Oh, you did the full version. This is such an awesome jam!
Rare Earth was the only white band Motown ever signed. They could get psychedelic, and funky within the framework of one song! Very nice!
Nick and the Jaguars was the first white Band recorded by Motown. Rare Earth was the first with success.
Love Rare Earth. Saw them in concert. On my feet the whole time.
These guys were awesome. The drummer is the lead singer. Funky!
. What a great bass line. Lead vocals fantastic. Sax amazing. Man, I LLOVED it! Motown with fantastic instrumental playing..and jamming. What’s not to love?
I always thought this version was funkier then the Temps, grew up with this stuff
That was reminiscent of most of the concerts I saw in the 70's in which the rest of the band would take a break mid song and the drummer would do a solo when the rest of the band got a drink.
Y'all probably already reacted to it, but I JUST WANNA CELEBRATE by Rare Earth is also a banger.
I saw Rare Earth with Three Dog NIght back in the mid 80's. Arguably the best concert I ever saw that Rush wasn't playing at.
I saw them at IU in Nov. 1970, I was at the front of the stage the whole time they played.
Hearing this on the juke box at the beach arcade in the summer as a kid the year it was released. God it was killer. Great time to be alive.
Outstanding reaction gentlemen! That was a commitment but a jamming one!
Always thought they had a Motown sound and vibe to them and if I’m not mistaken the drummer was their lead singer
Motown gave them their own label.... One of the few White bands signed by Motown.. Check out the Cover of Ray Charles What'd I Say.
Anyone who hates a proper jam session will hate this . This is FRICKING GOLD.
you need to do there I Know Im Losing You Live great song
Recently came across your channel, great reaction and to the full album version!...Lead singer is also the drummer, keeps driving the whole band thru it, not to date myself but still remember buying the album back in 69, man i wore it out!!!
One of my favorites from the 70s!
Whoa! Taking us back to different times...
WOW, the long version! 🤘🙌👍
The drummer is fantastic! And the bass, don’t get me started!
The only way to describe the lead singer's voice, he has a superb, soulful quality that fits in any category of music!
I'm hearing "more" in the future!
Thing is,he still doin it,has a song chain reaction
Wow just wow thank you

High School bands we grooved to (70's): Rare Earth, War, Edgar Winter Group, Isley Brothers, Led Zepp, The Who.....
Was a group in my youth that was amazing. Never got the fame it should have. I . Dont remember this intro. Mostly on the radio during this era. More please

This is LIVE! Can’t you tell? The whistles from the audience is proof.
Great cover of the Temptations classic. The flip side Tobacco Road is another great song by Rare Earth!
Dennis Coffy was another White Motown group or artist!
I play in a band with this keyboard player right now. Man his stories about those years are insane. Of course we do a cover of this song.
AND...after just a few short rehearsals, they recorded this full version in ONE TAKE..!!
Bought this LP about a zillion years ago. Still got it but man does it have some wear.
There's another banger on this album called "Tobacco Road." Great reaction, as usual! 😊

HECK YEAH!!!
Right on guys! Thanks for the long version of this timeless song for so many of us❤
my sister got me into all the 70's rock she took me everywhere with her
Always loved this track. Rare Earth had a garage band sound that’s just so raw and fun. Good stuff!
My favorite male singing drummer of all time. I've been a Rare Earth fan from the first moment I heard them.

No way! I didn't know that. (I went to Lewton & Elmhurst.) Thanks for great info! 😃👍
I wasn't expecting the long version! Awesome way to end the night.
This will never get old for me. Absolute classic.
Whole Lotta goodness in the "Rare Earth" catalog! 💯
👋😎👍
Thank u for the this long version ❤ always loved Rare Earth 🎉
They wanted to pay tribute & show absolute respect to the original,, they not only 100% achieved that,, but they were also even able to expand upon it.
Always like to hear the organ in classic rock tunes!
Respect for playing this version!
Such an underrated band! Saw them live in the ‘70s….wasn’t disappointed ❤
They were very talented with an excellent drummer! 👍🏻🇺🇲
The 30 min. version from their live album is also a killer
This is the best and the definitive version of this song. It is just too good! I always get disappointed when I hear it come on the radio, cuz I know it's going to be the super short radio version.
Love love this song,I was 23 when it came out. Good times great music! Thanks for the reaction.
The lead singer is the drummer also, which is no easy feat.
Hello La & Che. Love your reactions and believe you need to listen to Loggins & Messina "Angry Eyes" its another long song but worth taking the time to hear it. I LIVE IN Detroit and

The band was on fire! Nice job as usual gentlemen ✌️😎
Saw them in 73’ and opening band was BB King . The guitarist for rare earth was extraordinary.
I saw them in '72 (?) with The Doobie Brothers as the opening band. Don't know how they managed to get so many great bands to take 2nd billing.
I always have 20 minutes or so to enjoy this blast from the past...great one guys !
Kudos for the long version! That drum sound…🔥🔥🔥
Best cover of a song. 🎵
LOVE RARE EARTH!!! I think they were under-rated....GOOD STUFF!!! ❤❤❤
I'm glad I found your channel a few weeks ago! I've enjoyed binge watching.
You guys put a smile on my face and a song in my heart! Being a young 61, I love the "all" the old classics. You guys are doing a great job! Keep em coming!😊
I think the base is really holding this whole thing together, you gotta really listen to it
I’ve been listening to this since it came out and have never heard this extended live version! Thanks for sharing and reacting to this. I live Rare Earth!

I admire the hell out of Phil Collins, Don Henley, this dude and other drummers who sing. I cannot imagine it.
