- Nine of the ten F1 teams have a watch sponsor, encompassing everything from exorbitant luxury and designer watches to mid range casual watches. Many watch brands like Richard Mille, Rolex and Casio choose to associate their brands with the luxury sporting world of F1, with the likes of Jackie Stewart and a number of current 2022 F1 drivers drivers being heavily involved in the marketing of these luxury watch brands. I think Ferrari had the same issue with two watch companies sponsoring because Leclerc always had a Richard Mille sponsor backing him all through his career. No big loss though losing hublot haha

Just a little correction: The watch on Carlos Sainz’s wrist is a RM 67-02 Alexander Zverev edition, not a Rafa Nadal RM 35-02. Cheers, mate. Nice video.
About the most I've gone with was a Movado I found at a pawn shop.
Because of Bottas I'll have to look into those rebellion watches.
I ran into the Rolex sales rep at my local AD and told him I'd been on list for a Daytona for 5 years this August. First thing he asked was how many Rolex watches did I own and what was the last one I purchased. I said I got a GMT Batgirl last August (for birthday) and his response was "Well you should be happy you've got a hard to get watch". He said they are building more watches than ever but demand still outstrips supply. I told him the GMT was something to use while I wait and I'd buy some other watches like Explorer II if they ship them to my AD. The guy seemed surprised someone in Arkansas knew anything about watches when I started talking about Grand Seiko and IWC. I told the guy it's starting to look like the only way I'll ever get a Daytona is to win a certain race in Florida. Now that they race 5 classes, it seems like a lot of them go there every year.
The wait-list is a myth. AD's will always give preferential treatment to valued customers, which are usually frequent customers.
Correct.. it's like some of the premium car companies.
Basically you've got to purchase multiple common watches - on which they make a profit, and you will make a loss in the secondary market, in order to be granted the right to buy a 'rare' model that might be worth more in the secondary market.
So you've probably lost twice the amount you might pick up on the 'rare' piece. Its simply a sales technique

I love the RICHARD MILLE RM 67-02 so much, the elastic strap must be so comfy. Unfortunately the versions of the f1 drivers aren’t for sales and the other ones are to expensive.

Charles lecrec RM 67-02 version are still in prototype so its only 1 of 1 at the time the watch stolen.

Most cases of stolen Richard Milles involve organized crime and victim targeting. It's likely that watch was sold before it was stolen. I have heard stolen Milles can pull ~30% market value in more clandestine markets since resale is difficult.

I'm trying to think if there are any other palm sized items besides watches and jewellery that have such a high value for its size. Such items might be probably way more targeted by organized gangs than cars, although harder to ascertain.

Patek doesn't do motorsports really, they likely consider themselves too classy for it. They're not much for sponsorships and endorsements in general. Longines usually takes older sports, Omega has the Olympics, and Bulova is... well, they're Bulova.

Seems to me that most drivers are just wearing the watches either for style purposes or because of sponsorship. Personally I haven't been wearing wrist watches for years simply because I don't see any point in wearing them.

I've never find my ineterest on watch, I hate wearing one too. It is very silly money to pay for a watch i must say, but possibly it's sort of hobby like you would pay £80k for R34 nowadays where someone who likes watches happy to pay that money to watch instead of R34 :P

With the recent rules about wearing them when in the car, I doubt any of them would bother with the hassle.

So the team decides whether or not the drivers get to keep their watches - not the sponsor? Why would that be? You would think it's the sponsor's decision.
Maybe just a balance from both the team and sponsor.
