Emppu's guitar solos are always very tasteful and emotionally driven. He really plays whatever the song asks for. Never overdoing it. I know that many people still haven't heard of this awesome band, that's exactly why I keep recommending them. Greetings from the Netherlands.

The rabbit hole is DEEP. Tuomas has some of the most complicated & genius compositions in some songs. Transitions are on point and musicianship is off the charts. So great.

Very happy to sub you guys. I'm a 55 year old Metal head who's seen all the major rock/Metal bands over the last 40 years and Nightwish is the first time in my life where I've bought tickets for 2 different shows here in the UK - I'll be seeing them on 2 consecutive nights in London and then in Birmingham. I'm like you guys, I wish I'd known about them when they started in the mid 90's. I would like to point out that some of their ballads are extremely beautiful songs - 'Dead Boy's Poem' and 'Sleeping Sun' , well worth a listen. Take good care of yourselves and keep em coming.

Same here. I've seen most major rock/metal bands during my 57 years and only discovered Nightwish and Floor just over 6 months ago and have been blown away ever since and haven't emerged from down the rabbit hole. I've never heard anything like them particularly live so am looking forward to seeing them in the flesh on the 22nd November in Birmingham. Paul 🙏😊👍

We miss Marko, though. Jukka Koskinen is a great bassplayer. But I want him with a microphone. We know he can sing. He does backup vocals in Wintersun.

It Gets Better and Better!
Another great reaction. Marko is playing the Warwick Buzzard in this concert, not his normal Vampyre. I have always been fascinated by how he can sing and yet play complex bass lines without missing a note. This song is one of the few times Emppu (playing his signature ESP EV1) shreds. Like all the band members, he plays just what the song needs, preferring to promote the sound of the band instead of themselves. And the slide by Marko and Floor is fantastic, at one point they are both going up, cross each other, then slide back down. But my favorite part of this song is Jukka on the drums, hitting the toms like a mad Viking and attacking the cymbals like they owe him money. If you want to see over a minute of drum madness, the end of Everdream from the Wacken concert. You really need to watch Ghost River for more call and answer from Floor and Marko. Keep rocking.

Marko is playing his Buzzard in this concert. Not sure he ever used a Vulture, I remember him using an Infiniti until he changed to the Vampyre in I believe 2012.
Emppu always plays what the song needs no more no less and that makes him a great guitarplayer imo and yess he can shred. 🎸🎵💥💯💪

My best wishes to you. Great group of people with real apprecation of one of the very best bands and Floor - what can i say about her. Awesome. Just awesome. Take also a look to her Solo-stuff in Amsterdam for example (and many more). With NW you can not go wrong - never. IMO. Tuomas is unbelievable songwriter and composer. Entertaining reactions from your side. And really genuine fascination - thats what we like.

I saw them back in May in NYC ......and i have to say it was probably the best show ive ever seen ......these live videos are great but they dont come close to the real thing and Floor live ( i was about 10 ft from her ) is unexplainable, shes otherworldly .
We've got pretty close. We use 2 x 2500 watt PA speakers for our playback.

You have months of material to go through with Nightwish, Floor Jansen solo stuff and Beste Zangers etc, the bassist Marko Hietalas other band Tarot, solo stuff and Northern Kings(Group of top tier Finnish metal vocalists making metal covers from famous rock songs). The current drummer Kai Hahto and bassit Jukka Koskinen the latest addition to take place of Marko Hietala both come from Wintersun which is a whole different kind of breed.

Nightwish just did a 9 gig tour in the US in May 2022. Their larger venue tours are usually in South America, Europe, etc. The rabbit hole is very deep and there is something there for everyone. Tuomas/keyboards/founder/composer does not write filler songs. Every one is different and excellent. He gets an idea for a song, starts writing the lyrics first and hears the music in his head. Genius. 😄🤘

We saw their great show at the Wiltern - awesome performance at a wonderful smaller venue! With that show, and going back to a performance in Canada when Sammi was still on bass, I have now seen every Nightwish lineup live! Um, yeah, I'm a bit of a fan...

All of the gang in Nightwish are restrained in the way they play. Its all about the overall sound and delivering on Tuomas’s vision. No prima donnas here going off on a self indulgent solo trip (although they could all justify it). There is so much more to come. You may find the album ‘endless forms most 😮beautiful’ a bit difficult as its subject matter is based around evolutionary biology however please dont let it stop you listening as the music on that album especially ‘Shudder before the beautiful’ ‘Weak fantasy’ the title track and ‘the Greatest show on earth’ is simply off the chart. Check out the 2015 gig from Wembley, London for all of the above…….together with my favourite tracks, ‘7 days to the Wolves’ and ‘The poet and the pendulum’. I kind of envy anyone discovering Nightwish as it is a band that keeps on delivering track after track after track.

The drummer in this video is Jukka Nevalainen and i really love his drumming and the way he really is feeling hos drumming and the music 🙏The new drummer of Nightwish (Kai Hahto) was in the band Wintersun before and if you want to see him REALLY hitting those drums i suggest you check out their (Wintersun) two songs "sons of winter and stars" and "time" 😀 I promise you YOU WONT BE DISSAPOINTED! Marco told an interview that many bassists ask him what equipment he uses. Marco said bassists will be disappointed if he tells them he uses a preamp that goes directly to the mixing board.
And...welcome to the European world of Metal. We have awesome trash, death, prog metalbands, like At the Gates, Epica, Within Temptation and so many more. Many muscisians in Europe are classical trained, therefor symphonic metal is pretty big. It is awesome to make music with a whole symphonic orchesra and use ancient Irish flutes and bagpipes etc :)

NW drummer Kai Hahto was earlier the drummer of Wintersun and also basist Jukka Koskinen playing in NW was the former Wintersun basist. You guys are great. I really appreciate your response. It's always nice to see the faces of new NW fans. I still get those same expressions. I'm Soo for down the rabbit hole I expect to look up and see a Chinaman's but. I saw them in Dallas in 2018 and had tickets to see them in LA when COVID hit and they were for meet and greet. I really don't get to share them with anyone I know buts that's OK because of people like you. I've been a music for a long time. Saw Grand Funk in 1974.

You might check out Nightwishs current drummer Kai Hahto (who took over from Jukka in 2013) and his other band "Wintersun". The live recording from Sonic Pump Studios of their song "Sons of winter and stars" will blow your mind.
Due to insomnia Jukka had to stop playing the drums for Nightwish, but he is still with the band. Eight days after this legendary Wacken show he played his last gig at M'era Luna Festival, also in Northern Germany. I was lucky to see and experience him live there.
You guys are great. New subscriber here. Nightwish is the best, it's impossible to get any better than Nightwish. Metal Mozart Tuomas composes so many incredible tracks. Also note that their LIVE performances are hands down better than the studio versions. One of the rare groups that has this gift to be better live. Cheers from Canada. 🍺

Hard to watch this knowing bass player vocalist Marco left band in 21 but Nightwish keeps going. Doing a big tour this fall -winter. Lead singer Floor just celebrated her first live performance with Nightwish 10 years ago today in Seattle.

Lady friend, sorry I haven't learned your names yet...let me tell you about this rhythm section...Marko Hietala (pron: HEE-ah-Tallah) is a classically trained guitarist, *bassist, songwriter and incredible vocalist both solo and in harmony (that was a 4 octave harmonized glissando at the end!). Marko exclusively plays Warwicks, and has a larger vocal role in different songs. If any of you are Pink Floyd fans, Nightwish does a tribute with High Hopes, live, End Of An Era 2005 concert. Marko handles the vocal...and it's spectacular! Even David Gilmour is a fan!
*in early 2021 Marko left the band for mostly health reasons (replaced by Jukka Koskinen, formerly of Wintersun) but it was amicable and he has a currently touring solo project called Pyre of the Black Heart (released in both English and his native, Finnish).
The drummer here in 2013 was Jukka, and he's fun to watch...a very physical drummer, a hard hitter. Always looks like he's ape shit on the back of a Harley! He stepped down for health reasons in 2015 and was replaced by his friend and mentor, Kai Hahto (formerly of Wintersun)...you'll get to him...he's a perfect.postured technician, and truly one of the best of a generation! He can switch lead hands from right to left and back...just for fun!

The current drummer is even more technical. And they have songs that go way beyond the 15 minutes too, like 'The Greatest Show On Earth': an absurd and very impressive journey through the history of life on earth. In fact an impossible, crazy thing to do, but they did it. You have to be ready for this 20 minute experience. So keep it for last, somewhere around christmas;-) I got to go back to my Gojira 'rabbit hole'. Take care and have fun.

Jukka Nevalainen on drums was awsome, but he had to lay down his sticks in 2014 because several years with severe insomnia and migraine. His successor Kai Hahto is equallly amazing. A bit different in style, but Kai is called "the human metronome" for a reason. Jukka and Kai has always been good friends, and it was Jukka that recruited Kai to Nightwish. You've already seen Kai in "Yours is am empty hope".
Kai Also is the drummer in the band called Wintersun. Where he's killing the drums. ( ua-cam.com/video/Tl5T-glTdXw/v-deo.html )
Jukka hasn't left the band completely, though. He's still very much involved working behind the scenes in the management.
Ever Dream from same show.. Jukka going Nuts, and the power og Marko's voice...
(Marko has left the band for personal reasons, and Jukka Koskinen (also from Wintersun) is now the Bassplayer in Nightwish).
This song is the merge of romance and suicide =romanticide - therefore the 3 octave glissando Floor made.

I think you guys would love their song Song Of Myself if you loved Yours Is An Empty Hope and Romanticide, its also one of their heavier songs. I highly recommend Song Of Myself from the Waken 2013 performance also.
during this song Tuomas takes a swig of his wine from his secret bottle holder just under his keyboard lol. This is one of there more Heavier songs and they do have more heavier one's then this . Yours is an empty hope at Wembley Arena Shows Floor Growling! Has great camera shots.
Marko is an old school 4 string bass player. When there is not enough range he uses bass pedal board BOSS ME-50B, so he can add an octave when needed.

So now that i know, you are for real, just an big thx for this 3 entertaining Recaps of NW, at GLS i thought you wont do an second one, but thats my Fault, as an Bavarian /European i really were just baffled by the Talk and Reactions:) We surely also got our own Style down here in South Germany, but i really needed till the middle of empty Hope, to really get over it, that you perhaps just kidding around:)
Many NW Songs are not that hard, as the main Lines of Tuomas are always more poetic then harsh,but i think you will have quite an few inspirational and entertaining Moments with them, just bcs like already mentiond, one can see , almost feel that here absolute Pros doing an devoted Performance and have Fun at it, plus interacting with the crowd is essential for them.

Actual bass isnt Marko anymore, whats sad for the Vocal Part, but Jukka Koskinen(newBasspl.) did put out the best Basslines on Ghost love Score and other Songs you havent heard in this Festival Season in my Opinion, that i ever heard of the Band, for sure. Many Vids floating around , General Bardiac sure got some Links in his Posts

Empu is an awesome guitarplayer. He does not feel he need to show and shred technical solo's of and adjusts his solo's to the song. Ghost love score , his guitar solo was perfect for that song, keeping the melody of the second part. But trust me, there aint NOTHING he can't do with his ESP's and is a master on the guitar.
the Nightwish calalogue is over 120 songs.....for more runaway drumming by Jukka, listen to "Everdream" from this same show.....Tuomas Holopainen is the keyboardist, co-founder, leader, guru, composer, lyricist, arranger, and producer of 95% of the band's music.....he IS the Metal Mozart......

The rabbit hole gets much, much deeper! BTW, I listened to some of your original stuff...that's stuff's good, my friends. You remind me of a band that was pretty big for a brief while back in the late 90's called Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies...I think their stuff is out there on YT...specifically, a song called "Father Speaks" is what I think about.

HaHa You guys are just done hooked line and sinker, loving your reactions! For me a 66yr old guy schooled in rock from the 70s who done every festival going in the UK i could get to from 72 onwards who was then blown away by this band about a year back. What a revalation it has been just follow the path and you will get even deeper down that hole trust me.. peace out!
