For your own health I suggest you turn the volume of your airpod a bit lower haha! We like you to listen to NW for a long time!😅But I can relate to your falling into NW's rabbit hole. When I discovered them 4 yrs ago I listened to them hour after hour, days and nights!😮I couldn't get enough haha. It was exhausting. It literally turned my world upside down but I don't regret one sec of it! To guide you into calmer waters, and hopefully slow your heart rate a bit...here are links to "softer"songs"...AND you get to meet the 6th member of the band Troy Donockly with his very special instrument!

Your reaction was a real show in itself :) I saw it with a big smile. Although the subject of this song is serious - it's about a car-crash relationship, with the disappointment of lies and betrayals - the remaining feeling is one of catharsis, and the vocal slide at the end - one of release.
I'm glad you consider the list of songs I'm promoting to be important, but please follow your feeling whenever you want to listen to a song that's not on that list. The fans will always give you suggestions, and if you want to know something specifically about the band and its members - just ask, and you will receive answers in the comments.
And please stop apologizing because you are who you are and react according to your way of being. You should know that most of the metalheads are direct people and not very diplomatic, so there is no need to protect their sensitivity.

@@thequestionqueens Oh, right on target! In short, the story goes like this: dissensions arose between the band members (Tarja Turunen on the one hand, together with her manager and husband, Marcelo Cabuli, and the rest of the band on the other) which culminated at the end of the tour to promote album no. 5 "Once" (2004). The band members then decided to fire Tarja, handing her an open letter at the end of the last concert of the tour, which took place at the Hartwal Arena in Helsinki, Finland (October 21, 2005). In the following days after the letter was made public by the band, Tarja Turunen responded with another public letter. Spirits heated up among the fans, and many of them took Tarja's side, turning against the band, especially against Tuomas Holopainen, considered to be the leader of Nghtwish. Overwhelmed by the negative public pressure, Tuomas suffered a state of depression, even contemplating the idea of suicide. It seems that the words of his parents were decisive, which helped him overcome the extreme moment. The song "The Poet And The Pendulum", part of Nightwish's next album "Dark Passion Play" (2007) describes in a poetic and dark way the tumult of Tuomas's emotions following these events, making a parallel with "The Pit And The Pendulum " by A. E. Poe.
The echoes of this conflict resound even now, after more than 15 years since the event, many of the fans from that time never returning, or maintaining a distant (and sometimes even negative) attitude towards the band together with the following 2 female singers.
Personally, I think it's an example of how wrong it is to wash your clothes in public, and how certain decisions should be made with the mind, not with emotions - but such wisdom is not specific to young people, unfortunately.
It must also be said that after years, bridges of communication appeared between Tarja and the other members of the band, and Tarja and Floor are really good friends, having known each other since they were together on tours, when Floor was in her first band, After Forever.

And you’ve now discovered the “secret weapon” of Nightwish, and that’s the lyrics written by Tuomas Holopainen. It’s so easy to get lost in the music and miss what’s happening with the story and words, but Tuomas is a poet and has a way with words that just touches something inside you, and with Floor’s emotive ability and the rest of the band’s musicality, it really hits home.

The titel is romance and suicide - merged - and it is a roller-coaster of emotions, which Floor demonstrates in the 3 octave glissado.
And Marco the bassist is also a phenomenal singer - just like Troy (which you haven't met yet) - so Nightwish had 3 singers in those days (Marco left due to health issues a little while back).
And don't worry - you have still only heard old songs, not written specific to Floor!!! Of course she made all the songs her own - but from 2015, the songs are written to take advantage of her talent - and Tuomas even managed to challenge Floor on the last two records - which she loves, while that's the perfect way to improve and evolve.
So - massive 'Floorgasms' ahead 😉 and you will soon learn her emotional skills.
    Greetings from Nightwish Army Denmark 🇩🇰 👍 💪 🤘 🤘

Unless you have heard Tuomas explain the title that way, I'd say that it doesn't necessarily have "suicide" as a merged word. Any type of killing is a type of "-cide". For example, homicide means killing a human. So romanticide could mean just killing the romance. Although, if you meant it as the romance killing itself, I guess it comes very close to the exact same thing.

The Kombat Koala (Australian) division of the NW Army reporting. What you have to understand about metal is, and this is particularly true of Nightwish, is that it reaches in and grabs those emotions that you hold inside and never show and pulls them out so you can feel them. Positive and negative. You have them, we all have them but metal allows you to channel them through the music in a positive way even the negative ones. You really experience this when you are in the crowd, everyone is exactly like you, they feel it, rage and anger being pulled out and allowed to leave. In their place peace and calm. Metals crowd are the best, kindest and most considerate of all music, within the music and emotions we are all brothers and sisters.

Nightwish Army Germany with a health warning here: As you are going through Nightwish songs pretty quickly, there are some songs that actually might be dangerous for you if they hit you unprepared. That does not mean you should not listen to them, but you should know what to expect:
Yours is an empty hope: Very angry song about internet trolls. Be prepared for growling!
The Poet and the Pendulum: Very long, dark lyrics about depression and suicide.
The greatest show on earth: their best work IMHO; also their longest; but very uplifting! Might be offensive to creationists because it is about the evolution of life and mankind and contains lots of scientific terms…

Really enjoying your Nightwish/Floor journey! Always great to see new fans getting caught up in the magic the way I have! I knew when you did the phonebook reaction already, you're all in! 😂
Anything from this Wacken 2013 show is insane. You've already done the big three, reactor-wise, but you've only scratched the surface of this incredible concert. In fact, my own favorite, "Song of Myself" is yet to come! Can you believe, Floor wasn't even an official member yet, and none of those songs were written for her? 😲

I love how this song tells a story of a break-up with both Marko and Floor playing the lovers... Floor telling the woman's side, Marko singing the man's side... culminating at them literally screaming at each other. Genius song writing by Tuomas to not only tell the tale verbally, but also through the rises and falls and the huge vocal slide at the end that make up the music of it. So many pop and rock songs are just underlayment to the vocal, but Tuomas actually composes music and takes the time to write so that you feel the song through the music, not just the lyric. Of course, with lyrics like his added to the musical score... it becomes magic, not music.

When an empath discovers Nightwish, it's basically game over.. not only if Floor a empath, Tuomas who creates the songs, is one too, and they channel that into their performances.
So.. yeah, this is a "feels band" hehehe, and that being said, there will be quite a few songs that will be 3 boxes of tissues for you, and a few might rank as 5 boxes ;)
"The poet and the pendulum" is a heavy song and easily 3 boxes (if not 4), but for me personally.. "Greatest show on earth" is 5 boxes all day long, it's such a beautiful song that puts things in perspective in a whole different way than you'd expect, it is the story of the birth of the universe, rise of humanity, our place in the cosmos, and our place within all that, it's a 21 minute masterpiece.
I do think there is a 1 tissue box minimum with every song Nightwish has to offer, it's best to just have a box handy at all times hehe

The “scream” at the end is called a glissando, going from low to high and back, for classically trained singers this is an exercise to warm up the vocal cords, so Floor will do this probably every day before breakfast ...

    Greetings again Debbie.
Thank you for your work in making these videos and publishing them for us all to enjoy. I liked and subscribed before your first reaction to GLS was even over.
I also struggle with my health, and Nightwish music helps a lot. Something about Tuomas' songwriting and the performance of the band, especially Floor, resonates with me like no music has ever done before. Even performances of their "darker" songs like this leave me feeling uplifted somehow. I suppose a large part of that is just watching them do what they love and become such masters at. I am so thankful that they are able to share their talents with us and that they are grateful to be able to do so.
I saw them live last May in Denver. Unfortunately, the venues they play in the US are much smaller than they play in Europe and the stage production is much simpler. This is due to the smaller (though increasing) fanbase and the expense involved. But the show in Denver was awesome anyway. They are committed to their fans, wherever on the globe they may be, and work hard to go visit them in person.

I've only got one thing to say:
    Best. Banshee. Wail.
    EVER.
@TheQuestionQueens: What you hear in this video is known as "chromatic sliding." Basically, you can change pitches with a voice, a brass instrument like a trombone or trumpet (trombones have an actual slide, which is how they are played), or even a stringed instrument, like a guitar or violin, when a string is struck or slid across (think a bow for a violin), and the other hand slides up or down the vibrating string. Most guitars have a "whammy bar" that when used produces that "sliding up or down" sound as well. But Floor is very, very good at basically using her breath control and her vocal cords to go from one note up or down, and "slide" to the end note.
Believe it or not, Floor actually slides twice: In the final note before the breakdown, she slides down, and then she slides up, going from a relatively low note, all the way up to that very high "banshee wail" note.
The slides are called a "chromatic slide" because in music, you have notes that are a certain pitch, and then you have a flat note, which is lowered a half-step (or, if you will, an "in-between note" between that note and the one below), or a sharp note, which is raised a half-step (same thing for a flat note, but going up instead of down). If you want to hear the notes in a chromatic scale individually, play the keys on a piano. The white keys are the actual notes, the black keys are either flats or sharps, depending if you are ascending (going up) or descending (going down) in pitch. One other thing to say is that a flat note can be another note's sharp note, and vice-versa. For instance, an A-flat, which is what it sounds like, is also G-sharp. A-sharp is also B-flat, and so on. And a "chromatic slide" is stringing all the notes played or sung, from one to another, and not differentiating between individual notes -- there isn't a gap in-between notes, the pitch simply changes going up or going down. And that's what you hear Floor do here, along with Marko, the bassist.
